I'm not contradicting this, but are we 100% sure of this? While I understand that the Dreadnought was being redone and this appears to match up with what had been said... I didn't see anything specifically attaching Hellbrute as the new name until now. I guess I'm thinking of it more from the standpoint maybe instead of being like Pariahs and Lychguard it's more like Veteran SM, Sternguard and Vanguard... Since I vaguely recall a rumor of the new CSM dread being a kit for two different variants.

The odds that the kid at GW was actually lying to him and claiming that the mini rulebook wouldn't have all the core rules are extremely remote. Sounds like a miscommunication blown up out of proportion by internet dramatics.

Slightly off topic, but I've never bought a full starter set.

From my understanding, AoBR included stats for the models in the set, did it include point values?

I'm assuming that they'll follow that pattern for the new one.

Also: Has anybody seen a release date?

IIRC they did not contain any points values, no.

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

I really like the sound of the half dreadnought, half terminator thing, sadly, I need to find something that I can proxy it for in my space marine army. if this has the mini rule book this starter set is as good as mine... however, if it does NOT have the rule book, I'll have a hard time buying it.

I sure hope you are right. I am thinking that you are probably about $25-$50 short on your estimate.

Unfortunately I am still part of the older group that calls $100-$125 an asininely high price for a starter set.

More than that and I'll just laugh and continue my Eldar army. Especially after what I'm getting in November with my Sedition Wars purchase for that much.

I'm still interested in how much Dark Angels logos the marines will have. If it's subdued, I could paint it as to look suitably different from the normal dark Angels sword-and eagle and make it the symbol of a personal Chaos force that doesn't use as many spikes on their armor. that would make the Chosen look even more elite, as only they would get to have spikes and blades.

I'll just wait for it to come out then pick up the mini rulebook and any good models on ebay, same as AoBR. There are very few situations where you absolutely have to buy the whole starter (and if you're splitting it with a friend, the price isn't too horrific)

the Hellbrute doesn't excite me at all - we go from having a spiky dreadnought to a spiky dreadknight, big whoop, and unless the model is something exceptional, the description makes it sound like something that can be kitbashed easily

If GW is smart, they'll get rid of the mini-rulebook. It likely does cannibalize the sales of their larger book.

Jervis has said that the majority of GW customers don't actually play their rules, so for the majority of the people, a starter with some cool models and a little partial game you can play with the models inside there serves their purpose.

Instead of a mini-rulebook, they should probably put their printing resources into materials that would get a new person to buy the codex and the full rulebook. Maybe a coupon code for the iPad document apps GW is starting to sell as well.

Or spend the printing resources/budget on more scenarios and options for the stuff in the box and how to add additional purchases to the box set.

I know those of you who are sticking with 40k from one edition to the next probably want a mini-rulebook as it is certainly adds value to the starter. I'm just not sure there will be one in there this time.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

I think there will be a mini-rulebook. I f you're twelve years old and want to get into the hobby, you're not exactly going to cash out on a £100 boxset and a £50 rulebook. GW are at least wise enough to know that this will put off quite a few potential customers.

Would it make more sense if the Chaplain was infact a Dark Apostle? I've heard rumours that the Apostle is meant to lead Cultists (by giving them bonuses), and that would split the heroes to two-a-piece.

(Although, maybe I'm looking for a semblance of balance or equity between the two forces that I know is just not going to happen..)

Is it Asmodai with the interesting face mask currently? A similar could be easily mistaken for (or converted to) a Dark Apostle.

For me, personally, the lack of a starter rulebook in the starter set would be a dealbreaker -- I would be putting my starter set money towards a hardback rulebook, and I'd probably be annoyed enough at having to do so that I'd wait a few months and look for a 2nd-hand one on eBay.

Hopefullly the hellbrute does not look one tenth as lame as the dreadknight model. In all honesty i have yet to see a conversion of the model that looks one tenth as bad as the original. I also hope it has cool rules. I am looking forward to any new demon engines and if this is one of those, WOO HOO. if it looks lame it can be converted, but either way i think its cool that its not a new chaos dread. The old one is so cool ( JK ).

Going to call this ahead of time.

Not agreeing 100% with the news.

The Chaos Chosen are called Drach"nych ( spelling edited )

And the Hellbrute isnt correct name ( edit Hell Beast ) , and it has aesthetics similar to Khorn Juggernaught ( metal flesh )

Also estimate either $118.99 OR $124.99 USD

Actually AoBR did have the point values of the units. It was in the Getting Started book, and it listed the point values of each unit and the total point value of each force. Haha and I'm pretty sure the space marines force was more points than the ork force.

Seriously, if they've done away with the mini rulebook I'm done with 40k and GW. I really do not want to have to lug around a small cinderblock that I can use to inflict a good amount of blunt trauma on my opponent just to simply play a game.

This kinda goes back to what I was saying before... until now there wasn't really a new name attached to the revised "dreadnought"... The rumor is that the standalone chaos "dreadnought" kit is supposed to cover two variants... maybe this is where the contradictory naming is coming from. Hellbrute/Hellbeast, may well be the two different variants.

Pretty disappointed that its 2 MEQ races.

Only going to make all new players collect marines even more so than allready.
