No worries, a bit of paint should hide it. He is great by the way. The weathering is just perfect. How do you use water transfers? They look painted on they blend in so well.

I agree. I am most surprised how well the Deathmask works, considering I kinda hate them on Sang Guard.

To do transfers that look painted on you do the following:

1) Paint the model, including highlights/shading, but no weatheirng.

2) Put a gloss varnish onto the model, especially the area that will have the transfer. The misty look that you normally get on transfers are millions of teeny tiny bubbles trapped between the transfer and a matt surface. The gloss gives you a very smooth layer to work with.

3) Trim as much of the edging off the transfers to reduce the size to just the picture. Carefully place the transfer (only a second or two in the water is needed)

4) Do a couple more thin coats of varnish over the top once the transfer is dry, covering the entire panel that has the transfer on. This helps even out the edges of the transfer and make one flat panel on the model.

Now you can start adding the weathering on top of it all

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it out on the Hellhammer I'm working on.

Anyways, a pic of Laan all based up.

I'll add a bit of grass at some point to give it some color.

Thanks again for putting so much hard work into him. If I can ever return the favor, let me know.

Speaking of which, I finally got around to piecing together your guy. I'll try and get a photo before I undercoat him later.

Yggs asked for a recipe for the gold colour on WhaleMusic's dreadnought. First there's a base coat of Tau Sept Ochre followed by a large dose of Gryphonne Sepia to tone it all down a bit. As the Ochre is matt, it gets stained all over by the wash.
Then it's just slowly build up the layers of Ochre adding a bit more white in each time until you reach the desired edge highlights. Occasionally I ran a bit of Sepia/gloss varnish mix into the shadows where I slipped, or felt it needed to be darker.

In exchange for a Straken counts-as, I'm making Graven a Star Scorpion with power weapon and plasma gun. for the Star Scorpion symbol I've used the Red Scorpion shoulder pad with Iron Halo.. I figured it looks star like.

The colours are going to be Mentor-ish, but I thought more turquoise than green

Thanks

I need to get a can of white undercoat before I can actually start painting him. Graven, I've pt together a little scenic base, but I remembered afterwards that you wanted him to use one of your lipped bases instead. Do you just want me to send him without a base, or do you have a spare one I can decorate?

I can send you one, no probs. I'm going to try to get a wiggle on with my own gms stuff over the coming week.

Life is getting in the way... damn you life!
Here's a brief update on Gaven's Star Scorpion

The white is done and shaded (though you can't really see it on here) and the turquoise is nearly done. Next up are the weapons before I start beating up the armour a bit. See if I can't put the tank weathering practice into play on a space marine...

Thankfully there are not any on this guy as he's got a studded right shoulderpad.

Although... now you mention it, his right leg is looking a little plain

Glad you like him. I take it the colours/patterning fits with what you had in mind for the Star Scorpion?

Yeah, I really like it. It's sort of like the Mentor Legion, yet not, which feels right. I shall use it to inform how I do the SS for the next Conclave project! Your guy has had less attention than I'd hoped by now, but I'm off in a week's time for 7 weeks so GMS is my #1 priority.

That's what I was aiming for, so I'm glad it worked out
There's no rush for the GMS. I need to spend what small bits of spare time I get over the next few weeks on my guard as I've a weekend of games coming up
