All the examples shown here so far look awesome. Just starting work on some Red Scorpions myself to go along with the Imperial Guard I'm working on. So far only working on the command squad, and haven't got as far as ordering any of the forgeworld bits so far, but will be doing once I'm happy with the colour scheme.
The method I'm trying at the moment for the armour is a 75:25 Adeptus Battlegrey:Chaos Black mix, given a black wash, and then pure Adeptus Battlegrey drybrushed on top. Need to then do some highlighting practice as I'm very much an unskilled painter
Will be starting up a blog for both my Red Scorpions and IG shortly, so will get some photos up on there.

Just remember to make sure you have an apothecary in every squad. That's gonna be expensive
But, I'm definately looking forward to seeing more Red Scorpions. IMO, You should do a squad up in the Angstrom camo

You're telling me! A command box for each tactical squad... then again, I am buying the FW bodies/heads for every tactical squad already, so what's another £15 a squad?
metallifan wrote:IMO, You should do a squad up in the Angstrom camo
Oh, I plan to. Most likely one of the vet squads with some trophies; a bit like the tyrannic war vets the Ultramarines have. It probably won't be for a while yet though as vets aren't too high on the agenda yet

No. This marine force is to allow me a break from having to sculpt and cast bits as it was starting to get to me a bit.

Ok, some small updates for the Red Scorpions. I've been hacking apart the Space Hulk Terminators, removing the BA icons and replacing the shoulder pads with Red Scorpion ones. In the case of the sergeant, I'm having to re-sculpt part of the cloak

On the way home from Silver Sorcerer I was contemplating selling my Red Scorpions and other Marine bits in order to find Da Leeshuns.
I come home to find news about IA9/10 with pictures of new Red Scorpion models from the Badab War ( http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/90/312405.page)... looks like the plans have changed significantly. Loth and his bodyguard are stunning models! I'm also really liking the Huron model...

Technically I've already started the Scorpions and I have the bits for 3 tactical squads, a commander, 5 terminator squads (Space Hulk x2 and AoBR), a Razorback and a dreadnought. Adding in the librarian and bodyguard isn't too much to add

I'm awaiting a delivery of the old style flamers/meltas/missile launchers from FW; combine these with a pile of 2nd edition marine backpacks and there should be a nice retro feel to the tactical squads.
I'm also cleaning up the bits from AoBR to scorpion-ise. I'm still trying to decide if they will just get transfers, or if I want to cut off the shoulder pads and replace them with the proper scorpion ones

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!
"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Cool man, look forward to seeing it. I've done the same with some AoBR marines, just thrown the odd guy into a squad here and there so I can have more special weapons guys built up from the other boxed sets.

Christmas has been good for having time to paint, so I decided to catch up with my marines as they have been kicking around for ages and our local gaming group is starting a Badab War campaign in January. It would be nice to take part.
I've not had a chance to take decent pictures yet (my apologies for the slight blur)... but it felt well overdue for an update.
In there you can see:
1 Terminator squad with assault cannon. These guys are the Space Hulk models with the Blood Angel symbols scraped off, Forgeworld RS shoulder pads added and the arms swapped around a bit to make them stand out from anyone else that uses them. I love the dynamic poses these models offer compared to the boring multi-pose ones. The only problem is that they make other terminators look small, especially Carab Culln in Terminator Armour... he looks like a midget next to them! I'm not sure what I'll do with that figure as he looks really out of place...
1 full tactical squad with missile launcher and flamer and 2 combat squads with missile launchers (to be expanded out to full tactical squads in the near future). These are a mixture of AoBR and Forge World RS veterans with the old style missile launchers, Phobos pattern bolters and an old style flamer thrown in for good measure.
Combat squad 2 is in Angstrom camo and has models for both sergeant and Apothecary.
Annoyingly I started painting these before the first Badab War book came out... unfortunately they seem to have retconned the camo scheme
; but I shall persist in supporting it anyway

Hey, end, it's the first time I noticed in your sig the link to that thread, and I'm happy you didn't give up with them!!!
They going along really great!!
I'm especially interested with the fact that they use Apothecaries as their sergeants, something I had considered doing for my custom chapter, but had no idea there were rules for that...
Could you tell me more? (I don't have The Anphelion Project, but it might prove to be a useful tool...)
[edit : I forgot to add a bit of criticism, but that may be only me : your Space Hulk Termies look nice, but they look too... plain (?) to my taste... I don't really know what I feel is somewhat wrong with them, maybe the removal of the BA icons left them not ornate enough, or something like that... I'm not really sure anyway uh!]

The Anphelion Project allows you to upgrade tactical squad sergeants to apothecaries, granting the squad FNP.
The current Red Scorpion rules escape my mind at the moment as they got updates in IA9.
I kind of know what you mean about the detailing, but they are still much more detailed than the AoBR or normal terminators. The one thing I have noticed when comparing them is that the Space Hulk terminators are slightly bigger than normal.... especially the Culln model produced by FW... he's tiny!

Yeah, I had understood that, but I was thinking of the Red Scorpions fluff...
You (or was it?) seemed to mention their extreme adherence to the Codex Astartes, yet their Apothecaries lead their squads? What's behind that? What lead them to adopt this peculiar formation?
As for the Termies, of course they are much more detailed than the others, but... I don't know, maybe it's the discrepancy (@legoburner : does google count that word as "advanced"?) between the highly detailed areas (the ones you left intact) and the trimmed ones (those that had BA-specific iconography)?
Still, some very good job uh, don't get me wrong...

I think when you take Carab Culln as your commander in IA9 that all sergeants are automatically replaced with apothecaries.
Also intersting job with Culln, never seen anyone paint him with hair before

They have loads of apothecaries because they believe that their gene-seed is so precious and pure, that they will recover it regardless of the cost.

Ah sorry. I misunderstood. They stick rigidly to the Codex to the point of being fanatical about purity. This has led to them having a higher than normal number of apothecaries as they closely monitor everyone within the chapter to ensure that there's no genetic deviations or aberrations.

I don't think this strict obsession about purity would fit my chapter, but I'm pretty sure I'll find some nice ideas in the IA books...

There's nothing stopping you using the RS rules to replicate your own chapter instead if you want apothecaries for a different reason
