I'm not so sure about the forklifter, my guess is a tandem-axle trailer chassis combined with a one-axle tractor. But whatever, definitely the best motorhome ever, and something worthy even of Yarrik himself! - - Now, about Vic, I'm sure he will will return once the holidays are over. You can't combine familylife and an internet geek presence in times like these.
Now, koelsch beer, okay I guess if you are from Cologne. But up here we like our beer - well, tasting more beer-y less lemonady, you know... plus they serve it in ridiculously small glasses. But at least it's made from barley like its hould be, not from wheat like in some forsaken corners of the republic...
That's right, Mr von Domm, I'm talking about this abomination served in YOUR city! With a shot of fruit sirup even! Man, can't you drink your beer with a shot of clear Schnapps in it like every good countryman should?

***gasps*** "pheeewww" finally I have crawled from underneath a heap of schoollife, greasy food, gift wrappings and the ait is not longer cluttered by merry songs...."pheeww" indeedy...

Hruotland wrote:@red harvest: if I recall my German Folk lore correctly, I have never heard of a Belschnickel. But we are a country of ginormous local cultural differences. Myself, I am a Lower Saxon from the northern parts. Wikipedia tells me this "Belsnickel" or "Pelzmäntle"(meaning "fur coat") is stemming from the Palatine and Franconian area somewhere in the southern parts, or what we "Fish Heads" call "south of the weisswurst aequator". We do not know much about those parts. They seem to drink the wrong type of beer, sometimes even (lo and behold! wine, speak funny and are definitely not Bavarians. On the other hand, Vic is from Berlin. They also seem to drink the wrong type of beer, speak funny and are definitely not Bavarians. So maybe they have a Belsnickel there?

well concerning the console, XBox Kinect. It is soooo much cooler not to have a controler while doing things like running, dodging, throwing things, kicking balls without holding a bone in your hand - AHEM DID I JUST WRITE THIS I DID NOT MEAN WHAT YOU MIGHT THINK NO REALLY!
LOL... well I know the "Knecht Ruprecht"... which has some strinking similarities to the belschnickel it seems... from appearance to modus operandi...as well as the tendency to be the darker side of santa...but surley we all wont want to see naughty kids hurt, eh?... ... after all...been there, done that...
also... decisions have been made...and we went for a Wii U... because some friends of us also own one and the kids might thus be able to play online with them... , and we could use the old games as well... and Mrs von domm was only to be tempted to get us all this console in the end... we also got inifinity and so everything was golden... so we thought... but alas it was not... as we unwrapped our gifts and the kids were overjoyed by the stuff they got, in the end we couldn´t start the damned thing... after consulting the support we will have to replace the wretched machina...*shakes fist*... the disappointment in the eyes of my kids will have to get soothed on Saturday by someone from the store...mercy by upon that poor soul!!!

I've seen that while surfing for steampunky goodness from time to time... an impressive built... and a truly interesting future project...

My Grandfather mentioned the Belschnickel a few times. His Grandparents were from Lower Saxony and Westphalia. I suspect it is the Westphalian side that knew of it. The Pennsylvania Dutch here in the US-- who are of German descent (should be Pennsylvania Deutsch) also have the Belschnickel. I just think it is an amusing idea.
Never knew Germany would be so compartmentalized, but I guess it makes sense. Now about the beer, Kolsch? That's good stuff.
And Vik seems to have taken an extended leave of absense. I hope he makes it back for the contest. Or just to check in. Who else can keep those pesky welders at bay?
compartmentalized... red... you don´t know the half of it... the U.S. is called the melting pot... well... Germany always was called the patchwork rug... as all the small countries and lands of misery have been sewn together by the sword...
as for Kölsch... well... we´re talking beer... not lemonade... right?... and a good beer needs a strong body... not something that only hints of body leftovers ...

hey Hruotland...no need yell at me... I've only drank "Weisse" once... never did it for me... but I like Bock, and other more stout like beers... "Köstrizer" for instance... and some Czech beer too... and of course the "Guiness"... as this is a meal that can be served in a pint... that´s what I call a beer...

Sad to hear about that no-show with the console, Vic! There is a retailer out there that will have to crawl on the floor on Saturday! At least to have his noggins dunked for your kids' amusement!

dramatic entrance, eh? comrade?... well... I know about that one^^...see below... and welcome back!
at shaso... now we have a fully functioning Wii U and we´re not afraid to use it daily... the avengers game is quite nice... it is soooo funny to destroy cars or chuck pedestrians into the Hudson river...
at LDD... the bearskins I actually think look weird... but the ornamental breastplates are awesome... I have recently obtained eight lizard steeds and these would make some great riders...
as for the paints... well... I started to put them to good use already... pics of proof following below... as you might possibly remember I made these small grot tanks from PC and from scratch...
and this one...:
these are so far my heaviest weathered projects ...the pics are still WIPs as everything is still pre- wash...
and also... OneManNoodles rang in the next round of the ongoing LoeR terrain building competition...
this time its about accidents... as ...well...they happen...right?...
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/629845.page#7478948
and I have mused about what to enter... I recently did my annual new years eve salvage through our neighbourhood and among a plethora of wooden sticks from firecracker rockets...I found this... a very big dome...
the idea is to make a big grot rocket... a lunar landing vehicle...kind of...
to create lastly a diorama that is related to this old classic cinematic scene:
of course with lots of small green evil weirdos all over the place...
what do you think?...
cheers, vik

Your tanks are beautiful, and your weathering is brilliant, looking very effective so far.
That is a BIG dome, looking forward to this, I love the concept, and you could easily have it as playable dangerous terrain, even if the Grots are not represented by either player, a grot crash in the middle of a battle field would be so typical! Or it could represent a drop pod or your grot army! Yup brilliant idea sir.
Fantastic to see you.

the idea to use it as a drop pod I had too...
it is one of those hilarious ideas that has to prove its worth on the table... I think for this setting the moonish character of the base is the most important factor... never made any craters before... so I see here the main obstacle so far... the pod/ rocket I think will be quite straight forward... also... the original source provides already so many nice and league worthy shots I won´t be without further guide^^
and thanks mate... as said on another page
praise goes to our mate cam here too for these tanks, as I see him and his productivity with a small scale time resources as one who can do miracles while having lots of stuff around his ears to do all day... (and again we definitely need a saluting orkmoticon !!!!)

Maybe for your craters, Jam Jar lids, of different sizes, upside down and then use Polyfiller or something close. A drier mix to build up the sides of the craters and water it down and pour the centers, that way you get smooth centers. If it cracks it will look even more effective. And for rubble, the "rocky cat litter in PVA glue makes excellent rubble/scatter debris.

cat litter... good idea... maybe I should get me a small package... as we don´t have a family pet...hmm... and the jam jar lids...(sounds like a new terrorist organization...doesn´t it? ) that is a good idea! I think when I start working on this base the original dimensions will soon be achieved by me... (OMN did a smallish miscalculation at the comps OP... )
originally I had planned to make the whole base in plaster...as a friend of the family provided us with a 10 kg package... but I think to only use that for the base it would soon get way too heavy...better I use foam too...hmm....

Nice to see the tanks in glorious technocolour vik Good job!
Excellent idea for the grots-on-the-moon
Pie tin craters are a good choice. Not considered jar lids before, that's a nice idea.
I've always liked using cut down toilet/kitchen rolls for the basis....cut a ragged edge, use some parcel tape to create a bit of a slope on inner and outer surfaces, then liberal application of pva and scatter.

Lovely Tanks VIK... looking really cool and a sweet paintjob on them also! (The "wonky" exhausts are my favourite!)
Really nice idea Re: the comp also... cant wait to see what you do with it! Craters sound good... sounds like you have plenty of different styles and types to try out...! One nice thing is that if it is a "moonscape" that the unfortunate Grots crash onto... all the impact craters will be different due to the variety of objects and impact types that occur..... so.... try out one of each type of crater I think!

Either way like the idea of a crashed pod maybe add some droids as well

Lizard steeds are they the old skool cold ones or the new raptor ones ? please say old skool like the idea of rough riders chestplates kind of what I am going to use mine for.
