Thanks guys, the water is a Vallejo paste I picked up a couple of Adepticons ago. Supposed to be mid-ocean I think. Yes, way too blue, but let me remind you... BIRD MEN & SNAKE MEN... nuff said?

No, no- not too blue at all. With the setting you have, and the fantastical warriors, I feel it is exactly right. There's a balance, I don't know how better to describe it. Not criticizing at all- quite the contrary! Toujours en avante!

No offense taken at all Meer_Cat! Just pointing out that it does seem very blue to me... but given the overall "Margaritaville" theme of the board and fantasy aspect of the game... I think it works too.

For some reason when I saw that scatter terrain, my first thought was “I wonder if he could work in some 'Big Trouble in Little China' references?"

It might have been the preceding conversation about the fantastical nature of the game. On more modern terrain you might get clever asides with posters, graffiti, signs, etc. But in a high oriental fantasy what could you sneak in? L5R and Shadowfist are two CCGs I played that both could be mined for ideas. Depends a lot on how much of the genre you are familiar with; it’s not as easy as just grabbing sci-fi logos and sticking them on a shipping container. But seeing those rice bales, could be close.

Just my musings over the morning coffee. Love the work you’ve done here.

Good comments Nev. Luckily, the suite of games set in feudal Japanare supported by a number of terrain companies and each seems to have one or two sets of scatter terrain/bits and pieces. The hay bales and crates come from some company at Adepticon that just had them in bins that you could buy by the handful. They aren't really Japanese but seem ubiquitous enough that they fit the theme just fine. All of the other pieces are very theme specific though, including the wrapped sake jars (the with things with the rope around them and kanji/artwork on the fronts).

All this miscellany scattered here and there, placed on docks, in carts and next to buildings really impacts the realism of the scene you set with the board & actually has a function in the game as cover as well.

That dock board looks beautiful. The kind of board that helps elevate the whole experience. Barges and skiffs could always change up the layout of it if need be.
Nice work on the scatter terrain, very cool.

I have a question for you guys... I've really fallen in love with Bushido, but I realize it's not for everyone. Are you guys sick of seeing my Bushido posts? I notice I'm not getting my normal traffic lately. I do have a few more things that I want to get painted up for Bushido, but don't necessarily have to post that work here. I do have a couple of 40k projects queued up that I could begin work on if people weren't excited by the Bushido thing.

Thoughts? I would appreciate some feedback. Sometimes when things are silent it's hard to gauge what's going on.

Thanks!

Frankly, Gits, it's your Bushido materials that has me checking your blog more often (maybe I'm scaring other traffic away?). I'm within millimeters of diving into the venue myself, especially if the right Kickstarter comes along.

I find your work top notch, the venue fascinating and the technical challenges in producing the various buildings, figures and scatter terrain very interesting.

Keep on keepin' on, man!

I agree completely. It amazes me how often when we're just hanging out at the store playing a game, that someone wanders up from some completely different game/card system and wants to watch us and ask questions simply because the boards are so elaborate and attractive.

Thanks Meer_Cat, really nice to hear. We will be doing a video some time in the near future where the boy and I go over just that... terrain, assembly, scatter terrain and such. He's done all the assembly of the buildings and definitely has opinions when it comes to assembly.

Speaking of which.... video #4 is live. It's another short form report... however the next one and perhaps the next several will be full form with dice rolls and all.

Hope you enjoy it!

I love the narrative nature of the game, really sells it. Have you considered having skiffs that are essentially mobile terrain? Just when I saw your Tengu on the water. Very gracious opponent there
Also, l whilst I remember, the skin tone on your Crane is really beautiful, don't think I ever commented on that.

Actually graven... I have... they're on order as we speak. Great idea.

I agree 100%. It's the feel of the game that I find so captivating. Doesn't have 1/1000th of the lore that 40k does... but the setting provides so much fodder that the lack of volumes of story doesn't matter as much. Though I certainly wouldn't complain if there were more.

Probably the last big one for a while. I have in my mind doing a water table focused around a large building like an inn and a bunch of docks & small fishing boats. However I haven't found the right boats yet and don't want to start getting things for it (save the few docks you see here) until all the rest of my terrain is built *and* painted. I've really been looking forward to that temple bell as it will complete my temple table in grand style!

LOL! Just like that. Good call wyfox.

Actually, if you use it like you're supposed to, by making waves and such... you get a nice variation in color. Unfortunately that uneven surface would make it very difficult to build the terrain over the top... so our board is much more practical being flat, but it's also less interesting because there aren't any wave effects.

Except for battle reports, I'm basically caught up on your blog. I really appreciate the time you took to make those 50-page overviews, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Reading your blogs is what first got me coming back to lurk on DakkaDakka repeatedly, so ti was nice to go through this again, and see all the new additions. Hard to remember all the stuff I wanted to comment on, but I hope you're enjoying the Bushido game, the boards you've been creating look great. The island shrine in particular is breath taking. Congratulations on your son becoming an eagle scout, and I am greatly enjoying your posts on the 30k campaign, will there be more, or was that battle against the giant wall the finale?

Hey Syro, really appreciate the comments... thank you. Unfortunately the big wall assault was the end of the 30k campaign. It's kind of weird around here... even though the immediate Madison area has 5 gaming stores, all with playable spaces, the 40k/30k community has become very fragmented. For most of my time here there was a central store that most of us gravitated to & a strong personality running things which made for a very tight and cohesive community. That's not the case anymore and quite a number of us are currently experimenting with other games. Lots of folks went to Sigmar for example which they say is a better game than 40k. I don't think any of us have quit 40k... but many are taking a break after being primarily 40k players for decades (literally). You might even see a few Arena Rex figures on the pages of this blog eventually. Old buddy of mine wants me to try it and in exchange, he'll put together a small Bushido list. Could not be prouder of Thing 1 getting his Eagle, thank you.

Camkierhi wrote:Yeah what happened to the latest?
