Let the paint commence on my Warriors of Chaos Army expansion. Here are some WIP paint shots of painted marauders:

This is pretty early in my painting process. The Fleshtones I've pretty much finished all of the highlights on, except on the faces. The steel is based and highlighted twice which is all the further I'll go with the highlights, they'll get a series of washes once everything else is done to do the weathering and further defining. The Blues are essentially done, as are the burnt oranges. I typically paint dark to light, building sort of a contour map of color. Leather will probably be next. Fur and Hair will be one of the last things I do.

I'm also using a few choice pieces from other manufacturer's mostly pieces sculpted by Tre Manor. This one is Reaper Miniature, with no conversion work. I think he fits the bill.

Thanks man.

More work in progress on my Warriors of Chaos Army, like the previous post, I have quite a bit left to do with these, very much in the early stages, but I'm liking the looks of them so far as they develop, so I thought I would show some of the WIPs. First up, some WIP shots of a Red Box Games miniatures. Tre Manor's sculpts of these models are really good. They have really opened my eyes in how to successfully sculpt the exaggerated musculature of barbarians, something that really appeals to me. These sculpts kind of scream Conan which is also really appealing to me.

I have 8-9 of these guys, and boy they are easy to paint in my typical style of painting. They practically paint themselves.

This one is another Reaper Miniature, sculpted by a buddy of mine, Matt Gubser.

Its quickly becoming a favorite of mine, something about the pose, it will be positioned of on one of the flanks when the unit gets ranked up.

Also note the stylized hot rod flames on a couple of the minis. This is another carry over from the previous group of miniatures in this army. I plan to carry the flames throughout the army on capes, banners, shields and tabbards and such.

The next model is another GW kit bash mutant. I really liking the looks of this mini, quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

Leather, fur, hair, horn/bone, etc. to follow.

Damn son. To notch modeling and painting.

Excellent work. I especially like your fantasy Chaos warbands, they look very chaotic. Definitely capture the feel of the background.

Nicely done!

Thanks, Muppas.

Not sure this model will get used much in my new warriors of chaos army, but I like the model none the less. Not sure how exactly I plan to use him, but I wanted a test piece that was smaller than a chariot sitting on my desk for painting the knights, chosen, and chaos warriors that I'm building and preparing for paint:

I love it! But, idk, there's something that doesn't look right with the eye on the shield.

Thanks guys. Back to building for this army a little bit. A pair of WIP spawn. I almost always try to run a pair in my armies, mainly because they are fun to model and paint.

I really dislike the chaos trolls model, but I do think they make a nice spawn body.

And the other just your run of the mill spawn:

Can you ever get a 'run of the mill' spawn?!

Loving your army progress, especially the statically posed reaper mini marauder.

Excellent Spawn conversions!

Gives more of a sense of 'story' versus 'random blob of spikey bits' that the stock models portrays.

I finally got to spend a bit of time on the maruaders and got a bit further with the paint on 35 of them.

Here's an update. Still not done, but getting there, pretty much left is detail work and washes.

First up one of the Red Box Games minis. I'm really liking all of these guys, they are so cool, have some much neat stuff on them and strong detail work.

I love the backside of these guys, great detail with the bones and skulls.

I did not forget the shield backside:

I'm liking this guy, Conrad the Crazed is what I think Tre Manor named, good name in my opinion:

Shown this guy before, made good progress on him since last posting:

Love the conversions and the blue in your fantasy army, keep up the good work. Also your green stuff modeling is impressive.

Much like the previous update, some more progress updates on various models out of the 35. Again there is still quite a ways to go as I really have not addressed the metallics yet, nor have I addressed the faces. But its getting there.

We saw this Reaper Miniature in an earlier post, here is the update on him, continuing that blue hot rod flame treatment through the army, I'll probably reverse the color scheme at some point just to keep it fresh.

Another of my mutants, this one I used blood letter legs merged with the marauder torso, painted in a flesh tone, kind of makes for a creepy look.

Next mutant, haven't shown this guy yet. I've done this mini, primarily to get someone aggravated. :lol

And then one of the old beastmen. I still like these guys, he'll fit with the rest of my rabble.

With the one with the bloodletter legs, I'd do something more with the feet, at the moment it kind of looks like he's got skinny stumps that end several inches along the ground. Not quite the tone you want I suspect. Even with the nice rest of the model my eyes kept getting drawn there in a negative way.

I hear you, I think part of the problem is that I've not painted the claws/talons yet.

Next,
This is the first of the two spawn, painted up in a brown paint scheme. I originally thought about painting the back spines on the model in the horn and claw paint colors, but thought it need a bit more color, was looking slightly drab.

Thanks Munch.

Very much like the exalted on foot, I wanted to have a test knight for paint scheme, prior to building the others...and an interim exalted. I sculpted the Slaanesh symbols on the shoulder pads, and added the jewels elsewhere on the horse. And I did a bit of freehand work on the cape, which I made out of brownstuff. I think he turned out okay and the head I think is a good choice for my mutated army. That shield is absolutely grizzly and so I think it fit well with what I'm doing. Most of my future knights will be tzeentch or khorne marked, but this is a long term project and will probably cap out at about 3000+ pts by the time I'm done.

This is Blue Spawn. I really like the look of the model, ut in hindsight I wish I would have changed how the troll body leans so far forward. I also attempted to subdue my normal approach to painting blue, making it pop less and also more flat in appearance, which I think worked for what I was trying to do.

I am going to have to remember in my future spawn making to do conversion of the lacerated skin like what this former chaos troll model has. I think that is a cool effect.

That's it for a little while on my warriors of chaos. I need to get caught up on commission work and bolster my Demons of Chaos for 8th edition tournament season, since its the only army I have that is playable at the moment, and with 8th it needs a bit of tweaking.

The slaaneshi knight is fantastic. Will be goind through this blog page by page and enjoying every bit of it.

The skin on the reaper miniature with the blue flame is fantastically well done considering there does not seem to be many highlight layers, it really pops.

Great work!

The skin is not completely done yet on any of the marauders, I still have to do the washes yet. But I will get there.

My Khorne Demon army is in need of reinforcements and a bit of restructuring to be playable in 8th edition while I build my Warrior of Chaos. Definitely need more infantry, and I also decided to build some heralds on foot. So some additions are in the works...This is the first herald on foot.

If you are going to give them Armor of Khorne, then give them armor. Basically with this guy I decided to armor him up a bit more than my regular bloodletters.

Also sticking with what I previously did on my Khorne heralds that were mounted on juggers, I decided to paint the weapons in the orangish hues. Definitely makes the characters standout from the rest of the bloodletters.
