No I didn't know that. No leave them that colour, couldn't look any better IMO.

If you prefer I'll call it Red from now on.

Wow the red on the guns of your orks is great, don't know how I got that confused, I must be going dim in my old age.

Why do I get the feeling your really pushing yourself, Arakasi?

I always find it is harder when I do that, mostly if I just wait long enough, sometimes up to a month, but some how I find a paint brush in my hand and paint on a model. I also tend to do models in batches of 10 if possible.

Once I have caught the bug it is usually the case that I have to stop myself after that, or something more important comes up which can be annoying.

@slice'n'dice, HAZZER, Gitsplitta: Thanks

@CommissarKhaine: That's the Nob that comes off his base and can be placed on his Trukk's Boarding Plank (Not sure if anyone remembers back that far )

@spudkins: Tonight I took the time to find some white background. I think the Nob turned out okay - the other three are suffering focus issues I think.... Practise makes progress I guess... I'll take more care (maybe not use my phone camera ) for when they are done...

Nob:

Shootas:

Thats all of them with their base Boltgun Metal now... washes next...

@ceorron: Yes, I'm pushing myself. Really pushing myself? Maybe. You know these are the same Boyz you faced at Silver Sorcerer right? (Still not done - ugh!) It does make it harder - I think I just overestimated how close I was to finishing them But I can be stubborn, which helps with seeing such feats through. I think the worst thing is that I have multiple goals/hangups that pull me in all directions at once.

The larger the batch, the more efficient you can be (I love efficiency!) - in terms of time and paint - but the quicker things get boring/drag you down. When I was doing the skin and guns, my batch was actually larger! (I've dropped the Deffkoptas, Big Mek, Trukks and crew for now)
The smaller the batch, it's more interesting, but less efficient - and consistency and the benefits of practising techniques over and over again in quick succession lessen... At one point I figured I would be better off doing batches of 5... (or 5 equivalent, dependent on the complexity of the model...)
I find if I put off painting too long (say two weeks) my desire to restart it actually decreases with time - I find it easier to continue once I am going, but that too will wear on me with time - if that makes sense.
It doesn't help that I am putting so much effort into regular Boyz. I used to tell myself this was because once I painted it once, it was done forever, so I should take my time and do the best job possible. Now I console myself that it is practise for my painting, my speed, and eventually my characters.

I guess I just prefer modelling and playing Hence I have to "force" myself to paint - can't have one aspect bringing down the other two! I look forward to playing with a well painted force, and surely my modelling deserves an equal effort in the painting department... right?

Anyway, end of random self inflicted painting issues

I have the same problem with painting Arakasi (as You can see in my blog), but like You I'm trying to "force myself 'cause a well painted army is an army (that is what I repeat myself).

Nice paint job anyway!

At various stages I've either painted each figure singly, batched in squads, or batches of around 5. At the moment (or as close to this moment as any of my painting was ) I think I'm batching several colours, then kind of going the single route, with the occasional moment of 'hey, this blue would look good on him too'. I definitely find my interest in painting wanes and wanes....err, waxes and wanes over time.

I'm never able to force myself to paint, as the results are always way lower than they should be, so I just keep chopping and gluing until the urge strikes me again.

That's probably pretty obvious to anyone who follows my blog

Had forgotten, I have to admit. New models are looking snazz, and I agree about the production line thingy. It's always a fine balance; music helps IMO!

@SelvaggioSaky: We are not alone Thanks! Will check out your blog momentarily...

@HAZZER: Thanks! How big a group shot are we talking?

@monkeytroll: In a previous life I've painted a figure singly (actually, my Waaagh! Dakka Nob might qualify too...) I think I like batches, but once you get down to the niggly details I may be able to bring myself to concentrate on singles to complete them... If I never forced myself to paint, the results would be even lower - they wouldn't be painted! (Done that in a previous life too...)

@CommissarKhaine: If only I was musically minded... (quiet silence without interruption or distraction works best for me)

Right, so I agreed to give up painting last night to watch the idiot box with the wife - hence no update. Did get a chance this afternoon though, so here we go!

Got through the Badab Black wash. Started with a mix 1:1 with Gloss Varnish, but that looked too weak, so added more Badab Black to make it 2:1. Subtle, but I think good (you can always do another layer if you end up too subtle, harder to soften it later!). Got through everyone pretty quick - if there is anything I like about painting, it's the stages where things move quicker! Token Nob:

Decided it was time to get the Meganob and Painboy moved along. Touched up the cloak, helmets and shoulder pad with Dark Angels Green (at last update, they had had a 1:1 or 2:1 Dark Angels Green/Chaos Black wash)

Back to the Boyz and added a Chainmail edge highlight (again, subtle)

And then back to the Meganob and Painboy for a 2:1 Dark Angels Green/Snot Green highlight:

Dat iz all - fer now!

Yep, cloak and metal looking good What colour cloak was the painboy getting?

There must be music! Random mp3 through the stereo, with the added bonus of I can keep track of time by setting the playlist for 3 hours, and know I have to put tools down after that extra '10 minutes' just to finish that bit. Not so good with films, even if I've seen 'em a thousand times before. I had Brazil and Casshern on the other day for a bit of visual stimulation, kept turning the sound up on Brazil and just blatantly watched big chunks of Casshern. Didn't help the modelling much at all

Yeah, pure music for me as well. The soft stuff too, putting on metal is not a good idea, headbanging and modelling don' tmix

@CommissarKhaine: Green cloak is my best chance to practise a smooth green blend

@monkeytroll: The Painboy cloak (and the Nob cloak for that matter) will be a dirty white, built up from brown (Calthan Brown from memory...) In fact, there are a lot of details that will be in this colour across the Shoota Boyz - some straps, loincloths, glyhs etc - which leads me to...

@Matt.Kingsley:... very Christmas-y But a dirty, violent Christmas-y The shiny is the Gloss Varnish mixed in to everything (which actually makes the photography harder) - don't worry, it will all be matt-ed in the end (well, except for the parts I want glossy )
