I don't think the new 40mm round bases will fit for classic Space Hulk. Anybod try it?

No, it doesn't. Not buying Space Hulk because it doesn't give you anything for 40K is the same as getting annoyed at the Necron Battleforce because it doesn't give you any Tau models. If you buy Hulk and can get more use out of it, that's great, and you're getting even more for your money - it's a bonus, gravy, icing on the cake, and so on - but not buying it because it doesn't give you things for 40K is idiotic.

Money is a good point.

If I order, I have to order at retail from GW, as likely, retailers will be screwed. That same $100 USD can convert to $150 or more via a discounter.

So in other words you're just lambasting people for no reason. If you're going to list the fact that the models can pull double duty as a pro, then I'm well within my right to disagree with you by claiming I don't play either BA or Tyranids and have no use for the models outside of Space Hulk.

You can't sit there and call me an idiot because I can't get more out of the models. If that's the case then all the people buying SH for the sole purpose of having extra 40k models are idiots, too.

Anyway, I honestly don't care what the hell people buy it for. Personally, I don't feel like it's worth my money, but I'll respect the fact that other people have very good reasons for buying one or even multiple copies if they'll respect my decision to pass on it, for whatever reason I've chosen. The only reason I'm even arguing now is because I'm really sick of seeing you jump down people's throats for not wanting the game. If you want it, fine, you've already got yours pre-ordered, so why bother the rest of us?

@ H.B.M.C

You probably feel that people are ignoring you, or are not applying your reasoning and logic to the whole affair.

IMHO, you've made your point, over and over again, so I wonder when you're going to realise that people just don't care.

Your way may work for you, it doesn't for everyone else. In spite of the fact that you may have a point, you're blatantly ignoring that the mass of "lost" customers to GW, actually DID want a game that allowed for some cross-over to WH40K (which, given its background setting, is not unreasonable).....I'm not sure how that would have worked in order to please everyone, but there it is, you can only please some of the people some of the time!

What you have to acknowledge is that what you class as idiotic, or unreasonable, is for alot of people on here, valid grounds not to part with their cash!!!

Now, if you were to offer them a copy of the game, paid for with your hard earned money, then go ahead and mount that soap-box.....however, as its their cash....be so gratious as to let them spend it as they wish

I don't pick my armies based off of competitiveness but rather if I like the Model line and playstyle. Your statement seems to work off of the assumption that everyone likes the Tranid or SM models and their design.

The logic is that if I don't like the models enough to buy them for 40K then I'm not shelling out $100 for some game where I would have to use said models.

Uhh... no? Where the hell are you pulling that from?

This has nothing to do with competitiveness (seriously - ) and everything to do with people not buying Space Hulk because it gives them nothing for 40K. At no point do I make the assumption that people like the 'style' of Tyranids and Space Marines.

If you have no interest in playing Space Marines or Tyranids - regardless of reason - it's a silly reason not to buy Space Hulk, because Space Hulk has nothing to do with playing Space Marines or Tyranids. The only thing Space Hulk has to do with is playing Space Hulk.

Nice. Focus one set of words rather than the whole sentence. Your statement here comes across as a willful attempt to not understand the clear meaning of my reasons. And for what reason do you do so? Just so you can continue your attempt to bully people into buying the game?

I will try to make this a little clearer in case this was an honest misinterpretation. I....DON'T....like....the....models,....that....is....the....only.....reason....that....matters....when....it....comes....to....my....personal....choice....about....how....I....spend.....MY....money.

So please don't get upset because I choose to opt out of purchasing a game that GW insisted upon charging too much for because it contains models that I could care less about.

After the hype and build up,it doesn't seem worth it in any way.
It hasn't evolved enough from previous versions, from what a lot of people
were suggesting it could be(moulded corridors etc)it looked like it was
going to be a masterpiece. But frankly, the corridors and 'rooms'(they are small!)
look like they've been done on the cheap.

I'm boycotting it because the energy and time spent on it should have been put somewhere else in my opinion. Like adding to existing specialist games, updating old codexes, having a worldwide campaign, or anything other than throwing out a new product.

Its not really a "new" product, if anything it falls into the catagory of "adding to existing specialist games".....as its a reprint with improve miniatures, board sections, rules and auxillary components.

I'd also question your stance of "Boycott", as it looks like you couldn't buy one now even if you wanted to!

Yeah, it's only "sold out" online because GW wants to pimp their store sales this Saturday. Once that rush is over, most of the remaining copies will no doubt be sent back to GWHQ and go back onto the website as some sort of "limited 2nd chance release".

And eBay is flooded with them at the moment, which drives the price down a bit. You should be able to get a good deal on one (or two!) for the next few weeks. In a few months, when they truly aren't on sale any more, you'll see the price spike dramatically, but at the moment it's a buyer's market.

Is it wrong that I'm just using the Space Hulk rules, and then building my own version of the game with Colonial Marines vs Aliens (from the movie)?

I'm using world works games pdf terrain mounted on foamcore. I'll probably tweak the rules since the colonial marines aren't power armored super soldiers so there would be more of them.

I've got a USCM-based team I've been wanting to try out, and I break it out like this:

3 Sergeants
4 *unmanned* Sentry Guns A-D (more-or-fire; count as Assault Cannons)
2 Smartguns (move-and-fire; count as Storm Bolters)
1 Flamer (count as Heavy Flamer)
1 Demolitions Charge
4 Lasguns (LOL)

I would nominally organize like this:

PCS
- Sergeant
- 2 Smarguns
- Flamer
- Demolitions Charge

HWS
- Sergeant
- 2 Sentry Guns (A&B)
- 2 Lasguns

HWS
- Sergeant
- 2 Sentry Guns (C&D)
- 2 Lasguns

This should be roughly equivalent to a standard 5-Termie team.

Obviously, Genestealers auto-kill Guardsmen when they reach HtH, and Lasguns would suck.

Hope your Sentry Guns have enough ammo...

I forget where I got them, but a while back found some great sentry gun minis from some company. I think it was EM-4 or Copplestone. I got Colonial Marine stand ins from the same shop.

All that's left is to buy some of the aliens horrorclix boxes, rebase them, and I'm good to go.

It kind of ticks me off that GW is launching ALL this new crap out. C'mon, Planetstrike, Planetary Empire then this in just as many months???

Yes. It's so much better to have nothing to do in the huge gaps between Codices. I really would prefer they release nothing at all.

They have been. Planetstrike counts as a Codex release as it's a big expansion. Empires and Hulk come between it and Space Wolves.

It's GW's fault that they're slow.

Space Hulk isn't an expansion.

That said, yes, the sudden influx of releases is strange given that none of them are Fantasy based. They're all 40K. Then again, I guess GW has worked out what side of the bread the butter is on (to butcher that saying).

Or maybe we've seen exactly the same game you have and just formed a different opinion about it. But what the feth do I know, eh?

And speaking of Fantasy, where the feth is Dark Elves second wave? I'd like a new manticore, warriors, and dark riders at least...maybe plastic black guard.

I'm not buying it because
-I don't collect either Blood Angels or Nids
-I don't have money for it

Having said that, I find lots of the bitching pretty stupid.

"It's cardboard".

Well duh. That's what board games usually are. Sure, plastic 3d corridors would have been great - if you belong to those 2% of the players who have time, skill and patience to paint them. To rest, they would have been hideously ugly, not to mention more expensive and more pain to set up.

"It's overpriced for a boardgame". I guess this is from the people who are not at all in touch what high-end board games cost these days. Take Descent - it costs even more, and guess what, it has cardboard terrain.

@Backfire- Your comment seems to assume that most high-end board games are not over-priced.

You would be right if they were produced in country by their owners but not so much when they are being produced in china.

The last board game I bought was BattleLore. I got it on discount from $70 MSRP, and it was 7 pounds weight of stuff. I thought I got my money's worth - it's a good, enjoyable game that I find to be at least as much fun as WFB.

So looking at Space Hulk, GW is charging roughly 50% premium over what Days of Wonder charged. That is on the high side for a board game.

Spulck.... No.

If they come out with a Orc Spulk maybe, even if they make a new race for it maybe but as a re-release of their old ass game that has been around for as long as I've been playing I do not feel compelled to buy it.
