One reason I believe it's being released is because of intellectual property law. I think if they waited longer (ie past 20 years). It would go public domain and then anyone could use it.

You know this kind of thing really burns my ass.....people slipping into a thread, decide they don't like the content, and then ask for it to be closed!

Why not let the mods do their job and keep your nose out if you don't like it!

Actually its not exactly like that. We have the right to express our views in this thread , however many are using this thread to flame / bait / insult each other.

I think thats what wrexsaur is concerned about ( instead of asking mods to punish the people doing ^ which he know nothing would be done )

Sadly, this thread is pretty much based on a negative, so it was asking for trouble to start with.

If we can somehow avoid personal attacks, it can certainly stay open.

...how did you...know...*runs outside*

Honestly though, the biggest barrier for me is the price. I'm pissed about GW's ridiculous "mystery box" campaign, the whole thing combined with their crap Games Days this year embittered me about whatever it was going to be released, but if it was at least a little more reasonable (like the rumored $70) then I would have tried talking my brother into maybe splitting the cost. But considering we're both kind of broke it's gonna be hard to convince him AND myself to part with $50 each for this thing.

That, and it's a fething "limited edition". By the time we do get the money, it'll have sold out because there are a lot of fething tools out there buying multiple copies thinking this thing is going to be worth $200-400 on eBay (when these things first start getting listed, I guarantee you there will be a couple with a $300 Buy It Now option, you just wait), because GW purposely made a limited run. That annoys me more than anything, it's just such a blatantly obvious money-grab. "Why make billions when we could make...millions?"

Space Hulk was created as an introduction to 40k, and according to other posters was even sold in non-GW stores to try and draw more people into it. It doesn't make any sense to release it now, in limited quantities, only in GW stores, purely for fanatical, nostalgic vets and lose potential customers and profits. I'd like to know why exactly Space Hulk is just that damn good that I have to skip a car payment or eating for two weeks like they apparently want me to, and get it right now?

As for the thread, I'm not particularly against dissenting opinions, but the thread was created with a specific purpose in mind, and coming in here only to post "Well I'm buying it, ha!" or to try and cause trouble seems to be going against the OP's wishes. That, and while I haven't read the other thread yet, I'm sure at only 2 pages no one from the "negative" crowd has invaded your fanboy SQUEE thread to troll about how SH sucks and how you guys are fools for blowing $100 on it.

I really don't see the point of buying Space Hulk.
Now I have nothing against cardboard tiles or the new models. But I played the game a long time ago... It was okay, but not fantastique. Plus I play neither of the armies in the box. I just can't justify the expense. It's not fun enough, and I'm frankly just not interested in it... Plus I'm a little pissed off about the ridiculous 'mystery box' fiasco. Treating me like I'm 6 = Not a good way to earn my support.
And can we PLEASE get something that isn't fudge-packed with space marines?!? FFS I'm getting so tired of the clown shoes and bell-bottoms...

This video is pretty much how I look at space marines:

The beginning post should be edited to say "despite the fact that I am a MOD you should ignore my requests".

Lots of people that have already made it clear they are buying this are posting in this thread in direct opposition to what the mod asked in the opening post...

I think we should chill out with this, the thread has obviously manifested an entirely new direction, which is good.

As long as we can "behave" ourselves (just be considerate of peoples feelings) this thread can provide some useful insight into this situation.

Blaming the Mods is a great way to bring the All Mighty (with nachoes, yes NACHOES) FRAZZLED into the mix... beware....

"Note"
Re-adjusting your Modquisition-vision will provide you a bit of insight as to how the site is managed, and I believe it has an extremely good track record in this respect - ... yes the ole' fashioned soap box thumbs up... with fireworks and some dancers, everybody happy!

MeanGreenStompa wrote:The minis are nice but limited to two armies, one of which is very limited.

They're not 'limited' to any 'armies' because the models are not for any army. They're for Space Hulk. That's all they were made for. Lambasting the game because it has limited application within Warhammer 40,000 5th Edition makes no sense as this game is not Warhammer 40,000 5th Edition - it is Space Hulk, and it provides you with everything you need to play Space Hulk.

This isn't AoBR. It's not a starter-kit.

Did we work out what the "never done before" and "totally unique" parts of the advertising amounted to? Or was that covered by the "everything you have been told is a lie" bit. I'm genuinely confused. But if so, I now know the GW will say anything in their advertising and then do something totally different when the final product is released. Not that I'd like to think there's any kind of trend here. Space craters *cough*.

I'm more than likely not going to buy the game for 2 reasons.
1. Price
2. Number of Friends who I'd convince to play with me

Price is too high. The potential to draw friends into 40k is too low. Nuff said.

That being said, this game reminds me of the
Star Wars Interactive Video Board Game
I had as a kid. I think that retailed for....what $25 at the time of its highest popularity? And all the figures were plastic, the terrain was cardboard (except for a plastic high rise in the middle), and it came with rules, dice, and a video tape you played on the TV/VCR while playing.

In comparison to SH, it was/is/will always be a much better deal.

So, who is up for some Monopoly instead?

Well, I'm not going to buy it because it's way too expensive when I convert it to my currency, plus shipping, and I can't use the termies since I want to play Space Puppies and with my skill, if I try to convert them I'll just end with a pile of useless plastic.

It wasn't a personal attack. It was an observation on how it must feel to keep banging your head against the wall. I mean, you've been repeating the exact same argument in three different threads and no one seems to be listening.

I play Necrons and it doesn't come with any of those, so should I not buy it because of that?

Is that just specific to GW products, like with Talisman, or is this a more over-all IP thing - a 'use it or lose it' kinda thing?

Could've been anyone who said that and I would have responded the same.

What the hell is wrong with companies making a profit??? News flash, its what companies do, its why they are a company and not a charity organisation!

Even if they make the units for $1 and sell it to you for $100, do you think a company (of any type) will "limit" the amount of profit they make in order to please the customer? Seriously, theres plenty of reasons to be pissed at GW, but the fact that they make a profit is a vary naive reason to be angry.....

A company concerns itself with 5 things that make up what is called a "Balanced Scorecard". These things are quality, cost, delivery, safety, and morale. If any of these items are out of proportion to any other item on the card, then the company can find itself in trouble. Under the cost factor is the fact that a customer will not pay more than they have to, and the customer will buy elsewhere if the company does not balance cost with quality.

The question here is if there are enough people out there to believe the quality is worth the price.
