I've never played the previous space hulk.

But I saw this and just thought, I play SM so I may as well take normal Terminators which I can model and paint as I see fit. And I know Nid players who would rather used their nicely modelled Stealers.

And Flat Cardboard tiles, Or model some more interesting tiles which can be used as terrain in normal games.

Yeah I don't need to buy space hulk to play space hulk if I ever wanted too.

Just because I don't care, Doesn't mean I don't understand!

Wargaming is one of the most extraneous, frivolous things I can think of. Of course it's expensive. The only people who can afford to get into the hobby are people with substantial amounts of disposable income (either their own or their parents')...so the idea of "unnecessary" price increases is senseless, no offense. If you want to get into talking about the price of gasoline, something everyone needs, then I can get on board with kvetching about the prices...but for toys?

What do you mean expensive? I have a ton of sci-fi, fantasy and historical miniatures that 95% of were bought at cheap prices. I buy through discounted sites, used stuff, and I trade a lot of minis I'm not that interested in for unpainted bits or minis for my bigger projects. I'm not in the middle or upper class tax bracket but I can shop frugally, trade stuff, sell stuff and get what minis I want without shelling out a ton of cash. I buy small scale historicals, both for the mass effect but also because they're cheaper and have a certain charm that is lacking in the GW ranges.

One can be frugal and get a lot of minis if they're down to buy discounted or from people selling their unpainted collections.

Space Hulk is expensive. I really am only interested in the rulebook and cardboard tiles but there is no way I am handing GW $100. So, I decided to download the first edition Space Hulk rules in pdf form, as well as buy some cheap space corridor terrain from a few smaller companies on wargamevault.com and print them on card paper and then glue the pieces to foam board and now I have a bunch of very, VERY inexpensive terrain which is of good detailed quality and planning on using IG and some regular SM figs instead of BA Termies and have them fight it out with some Orks I have.

So guys, don't hand over $100 to GW and find some cheaper alternatives and use your current armies. You won't feel broke and you'll end up finding some other lesser known companies that have some great stuff to offer at good prices.

At least that means you'll be able to make the decision to buy a Toyota Camry or some
other Japanese owned, American manufactured car with a clear conscience.

Sorry. My father-in-law works for a place where all the guys will give him a hard time
if he were seen driving a foreign car, so I looked up this list:

http://blogs.consumerreports.org/cars/2009/05/top-40-best-deals-on-americanmade-cars.html

I guess I'm wondering if people bought Space Hulk for the game or the minis? The game
isn't all that useful to me, since I can play it at my buddy's place, and the minis don't
help much either.

I guess I'd buy the Blood Angels minis separately from GW if they were to produce and
package them that way, but with the only market for these being the secondary
market I'm able to make it less of an impulse buy.

I already have about 7 rule systems I want to get around to playing, I really don't need to drop a chunk of money on a new one, no matter how sleek and cool looking it is :(

It costs too much. I only get to play Table Top with friends a dozen times a year if I'm very lucky. I'd rather have a big game of 40k or warmachine.

Buying the new space hulk would be like intentionally buying a cumputer with Vista... Its been done better before, and frankly, the new version isnt any better...

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"

Is that followed by a pile-in move?

That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"

Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round?

Hahahaha, seriously.... I am sitting here at work bored to death, and I have to say after just reading the last 3 pages of this thread this totally made my day

I figured I'd be making someone's day when I posted that.

It was a really stupid decision though, I really couldn't afford it, lol...I screwed myself on bills. I really like the game though, I've played about four times now. Only thing is I'm too scared to paint the minis, and of course I'm overly protective of all the models, counters etc. on account of it being "limited edition".

I know what you mean - I haven't even got mine out of the box yet (except the rules and mission books) as I am moving house in a couple of weeks and I don't wanna risk anything going astray during the move! I have played a few games on my mates copy though and it is an absolutely awesome game. I was panicking about how I was gonna manage it as I amcurrently jobless and I really didn't wanna miss out - fortunately my better half was kind enough to buy it for me

On a side note, my FLGS where I got my copy still has 2 copies left if anyone in the UK is still without?

Actually I bought Space hulk too, despite saying I wouldnt. The reason was because of the enormous sales and limited stock. Its in perfect condition in its shrink wrap and will remain that way for the forseeable future.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

investment, fair enough. I was actually in deepest darkest Africa when it came out, so I missed the boat as it were, but I don't think I would've bought it anyway - for the price I'd want plastic sculpted board sections, not card

I saw 4 at my local GW store; the last 4 in the province I live in. For the entire week I was tempted. Hell, I AM tempted still.

For a thematic, atmospheric game that is also very fun (according to most sources), takes only an hour, have great minis (I didnt know a box of termies is 60 bucks), AND is limited. AND the last 4 remaining in my province, when it is sold out almost everywhere online and being sold for high prices on eBay?!

I realize that even for its price tag, the purchase would have been worth it. Hell, it'd save me a week of struggling, of burning desire.

But then I didnt buy it, and even if they still have it (they might) I wouldn't buy it.

Not because I don't think it is worth it. I think it is worth it. It is especially cool to be able to buy it when there are people out there who couldnt find it.

The reason I don't buy it is because this isn't a boardgame. It is a miniature game played on a grid. Which means all I need to play the game are the rules (and the mission book).

And since it is a grid game, I don't even need minis, since the 3rd dimension has no role.

I can play this game with any printed tile sets sold online, or 3D paper terrain. I can use any minis I want, if I want to use minis. Otherwise, I can just use some tokens and I'd still be able to play.

All I need are the 2 books.
