I'm sorry, but do you think GW is some kind of charity organisation? Do you think they donate to the starving children in Africa or something? What the hell is wrong with companies making a profit??? News flash, its what companies do, its why they are a company and not a charity organisation!

Even if they make the units for $1 and sell it to you for $100, do you think a company (of any type) will "limit" the amount of profit they make in order to please the customer? Seriously, theres plenty of reasons to be pissed at GW, but the fact that they make a profit is a vary naive reason to be angry.....

That's exactly right! And hey! You know who could really turn a profit off of us! GAS COMPANIES! HELL YEAH! They aren't some pansy aide organization either. Gas should be 100$ a gallon, people would drive a little less but hell the country would have to drastically change before everyone could really reduce their driving then you can just lower it to 25$! Then everyone will consider it 'cheap'! Ha! The fools! :Red Sarcasm Flag:

I didn't buy it because there are better board games for less money out there. Catan is awesome, Last Night on Earth is awesome, Jamaica is awesome, etc, etc. Spulk is kind of 'meh'. Why buy it for outrageous amounts of money when there are better games I could be buying yeah?

If anything, GW is like the charity. We have to give them all our money or they'll go bankrupt.

That's why they charge so much, they're just desperate and needy.

Would've liked plastic tiles, I'd also like to know who this version plays. They'll be sold out before I know. Maybe I'll buy a copy to EBay. Does that still count as buying it?

Cost's way too much I already have ten terminators why do I need more that are just fluffy and cost $100

Hmm lets see if I can justify SH's price solely on the models alone. I'll be using GW equivalent models when possible which means that there will be some metals invovled:

11 Terminators : Either have to buy AOBR or their expensive 5 man set for something similar, at 10 bucks a terminator the SH deal already doesn't seem as bad (already over a $100 worth of GW minis) however I'm not sure how much an AOBR termie goes for on Ebay.
1 Terminator Librarian : Costs around $10-15 for a metal equivalent
22 Genestealers : 8 for $30 normally; equaling above $60 worth
Dead SM on Throne
Blood Angels artifact
Cyber altered task unit
: Not sure where GW sells objectives but at a modest $5 per item this would be at least $15 worth normally; however the SM on the throne would likely retail $15 if a metal counterpart was available
One Broodlord: About $20 for a metal equivalent

= At least $100-200 worth of GW minis? However this set doesn't include bitz and its all plastic; also the min's are new and limited.

**** Of course the other plastic sets come with more bitz but Space Hulk has its own advantages as well:

1. Limited edition mini's
2. Newer and looks to be more detailed if the pics are any indication of quality
3. You have enough to play a full game
4. This post didn't include the value for the rest of the SH stuff

So by mini's alone and with GW's retail prices; this set is actually kind of a deal and its got a lot of cool factors going for it like being limited edition, being a full game, and is a vessel for GW vets and newbies alike to play and enjoy.

Sorry for posting this damn thing three times but there's so many friggin threads and I'm interested in what the rest of the community has to say.

Cane. I think its a little unfair to base the prices of the termies as the same ones in aobr. For one thing they are posed better. And for another you have more weapon options then the aobr type Id say if we went at about half the pricing on a aobr set and a norm termie set it would come out to roughly 70 ish bucks for the termies alone. *going on about 30 bucks for 5 termies and 10 ish for the liby as he is plastic.

That price list is kind of like GW shooting themselves in the foot. I guess we now know, it really isn't that expensive to make this stuff.

True, I listed AOBR termies as well but they're a major reason why AOBR is a good deal. You're still getting around 35 models if you include the objectives in the Space Hulks set and if the 'cyber altered task unit' is one model. 35 models that are new and limited edition; mini's alone thats a little under $3 a model...seems in line with the rest of GW's infamous pricing.

Then you throw in the fact that its a fully playable game out of the box with a bunch more accessories and the price seems in line.

1. They are plastic and single pose. Limited Edition means nothing, it's a term that is used too often by company's like GW to get gullible people to buy their over priced models. Limited Edition only means something to other people interested in the same product.
2. The Terminators in AoBR look fine as they are. GW could of made some different weapon spures and custom bases, means they could of been used in your 40k force as well. Nids, fair comment, the poses are nice.
3. For less money I believe you get more models in AoBR. Only going on what I've seen in the shop.
4. Dice, nothing special. Sand timer? They are used in a lot of games, so they probably bought them bulk. Tiles and other card items? More than likely printed in China. If not then they probably could of got plastic tiles made in China for the same price.

I could accept the price of this boxed and the card tiles if it had stood out as something really collectable. By this I mean that the play area should of been larger, the dice bigger and the figures larger than normal size. This would of made it unique and collectable in my eyes. Yes there would be the issue of making it unusable for normal 40k, but it would of stood out.

Having purchased two AOBR's, these mini's look like a significant upgrade over those but hopefully this won' t be Battlescape 2.0. The new genestealers look much better than the old ones too imo. And while its true you do get more models in AOBR, as of now this is the only box where you can get something other than Orks with SM's. Not to mention that SH is a stand alone game. As for people wanting limited edition stuff, just look at the nature of Praetorian generals and the amount of posts with people preordering this game

38 new and seemingly high quality models for a $100 seems in line with GW's infamous pricing scheme and again doesn't include all the value the box adds since its a full game and limited edition. Not to mention you can use the models for your 40k armies in addition to SH with little modification needed. Going by GW's prices this set really doesn't seem overpriced and is somewhat of a bargain; whenever GW bundles a big package those are their best valued items (AOBR, battleforces). And while I agree that pricing is one of GW's biggest problems and reasons for their decreasing customer base; SH is one of the closest things to a bargain you'll get from GW :(

I have the first edition. I've seen the way GW have been going for years and this edition is unlikely to be more in depth than the original so won't interest me. This seems very self contained by using miniatures with non standard bases, the original could use many other things, and they covered rules for them, hybrids, magi and patriarchs, standard marines and traitor marines.

Still I like the figures and that's all I'd like from this. Hopefully GW will see there's money in making them seperately.

I think GW missed a trick on this one, The original game sold in lot's of non FLGS since it was no more expensive than lot's of other games. It was great to get people into the hobby. This is a run for people who know Space hulk and love it,

I'd have rather seen it at $60/£30 with less or simpier models with prehaps a special ed set with a few more goodies for the hardcore fanboi's.

I guess it show's just how little they plan on supporting it. .I almost certainly will not buy it but that's because i'm both poor and cheap. however i do think it's ok value for the mini's (in a sense that it's cheaper to get gold teeth than get into 40k)

However as GW PLC assume its customers are willing to pay twice the amount for a 'limited release' , they insulted my intellegence, so they can stick it!

Ill just play the original at my friends house.

Hm, you are aware it's "only" 58£ right? Like, if you think it's a super clear buy for 50£ (as your capital YES implies), I'd think 58 isn't too different? Nowhere near "twice the amount".

What amazes me is some of the Dakka-ites who do nothing but complain about every move GW makes, and then they run out and buy two (or more) of practically every new product that comes their way. I mean, I bitch about GW, but I also stopped buying the vast majority of their stuff years ago. But, it wouldn't be the intarweb without steaming piles of hypocrisy lying around!

No what's funny are comments like this one:

"Utility... simply laughable as functional terrain for most games."

Why is that funny? Because it's a comment made on a false premise, the premise being that the new Space Hulk box was designed for anything other than Space Hulk.
