Any one yet asked the question:
"If this is a promotional shot to show of different classes within the 'Imperium', why did they put the Tech-Priest in twice?"
Isn't it more logical to assume that in a picture showing off the various classes within the Imperium faction, especially when they are so obviously 'posed' to show each of them off, that they wouldn't include 3 different ones, and then two the same wearing different clothes? Can't we then infer that the guy who looks like a Tech-Priest is a Tech-Priest and the guy that looks nothing like a traditional 40K Tech-Priest is, in fact, not a Tech-Priest? Automatically Appended Next Post: fox-light713 wrote:Well I would also like to bring up the 2 other characters that we have seen in the screen shots and videos which are these two guys
Ain't you been payin' attention? They're Tech-Priests.

If "merc or rogue trader" were ever listed as some form of playable class...you'd probably be right. But they're not, so go with "Veteran Guardsman" or "Inquisitorial Guardsman".
Both of those utilize non-uniform equipment, with the Veteran Guardsmen utilizing stuff that they gather up over the time of their enlistment.
The Inquisitorial Guardsmen...well, they get the best that their patron can afford or requisition.
Indeed you probably right on that one which would sugest that IG players would be playing as special character like a Vet. Guard, and a Stormtrooper/Kasrkin type of character.
Kanluwen wrote:
I'd go with neither of those, but I would go so far as to say he's an "alternate" Guardsman model or potentially an Inquisitorial Acolyte.
To me I would be leaning tourds the Inquisitorial Acolyte option because his gear looks more Form (astetics) than function, where as the Vet. Guard has gear that looks more Functional than form.

Until we know exact class counts for each race, other than "these are the three announced, and they'll each have multiple progression pathways"...there's a lot of room for interpretation.

Here's the fun part. The guys at Vigil made an implication at GamesCom that there will be pathways for some classes that control entire squads, and others that operate as a form of lone wolf.
It's important to remember that it won't be " IG players" as their own race. The IG, for all intents and purposes, will be a class not a race.

I know I was referring to players that would be playing the IG class under the Impirium of Man race.
And so far we Know that the very possible/the classes for the IoM race are...
SM
tech priests
IG
I'm also hoping for, but I haven't seen or heard anything on them an Inquisitor/Physker type class and a SoB class. Thoe having a different play style for a SoB vs a SM could be interesting to figure out, although it could be comparable to WoW as the SM being a dps warrior vs the SoB being a dps paladin.

Not "possible". Those are the only ones they've come out and confirmed, with the statement of "if everything goes to plan". Could one of them be dropped? Sure. But I doubt they would, since those three are going to be representing the three "major" factions of the Imperium that you'll see in every warzone. The Mechanicus and Tech-Priests accompany pretty much every Imperial expeditions
I'm also hoping for, but I haven't seen or heard anything on them an Inquisitor/Psyker type class and a SoB class. Though having a different play style for a SoB vs a SM could be interesting to figure out, although it could be comparable to WoW as the SM being a dps warrior vs the SoB being a dps paladin.
There's nothing, in gameplay terms, that differentiates Sisters of Battle from Space Marines. Their equipment is the same(with Astartes equipment being slightly larger and better made) and their character hook is the same(power armored warrior-monks with an unshakable faith in the God-Emperor).
Inquisitors...I can see them being, I dunno...a kind of "advanced" progression path. I highly doubt you'll be able to just say "Hey, I'm gonna be an Inquisitor"(or at least that's what I'm hoping. Inquisitors, barring the Ordo Hereticus ones, are supposed to be rare.) and voila! you're an Inquisitor. I can, quite frankly, see something more along the lines of:
You do a series of tasks and gain a certain amount of notoriety with the Inquisition NPC faction, and you can opt to start training with them, getting stuff like Hellfire rounds which deal increased damage against Tyranid targets, litanies against corruption and Daemonic infestation, etc.
Sisters of Battle...ehhhh. Again, a form of "advanced" progression path would probably work.
Playing a female Imperial Guard Veteran? In nice with the Ecclesiarchy?
Congratulations! You can, after a lengthy as hell series of tasks and achievements, opt to leave your old life behind and begin anew as a member of the Adeptas Sororitas!
Psykers, I'm not quite sure how to work in without completely breaking the background about them. Are they relatively common? Yeah. But at the same time...they're also a strictly regulated thing. Any that are unregistered are pretty much killed on sight, or put away where they can do no harm.
Disclaimer:
This is all my conjecture. This is what I would love to see, in terms of the game.

Space Marines unshakable faith in the God-Emperor? So what was the Horus Heresy all about? Or all those other chaos space marines?
Gameplay wise I would expect a space marine to be a full tanker or full dpser or a hybrid of the two.
Sister of Battle due to their acts of faith could be a buffer, a brust dps or even a temporary tanker. They might just be a class that adapts to the situation.
Now don't give me this acts of faith are rare and thus they won't include it cause all you have to do is look at the table top game and see how rare acts of faith are.

Oh, if it was up to you half the armies in 40k would be gone cause they don't fit your strict definition of army even thought the fluff and rule book clearly states otherwise.
Well every mmo has had a tank, I expect the same from this one. Regardless my point still stands.

I had a CRAZY idea that some classes could be MULTI CLASSES. I know its pretty off but I was wondering if you could say mash up SoB with Stormtrooper or something as generic jack of all trades fighter. then again I also was thinking of mashing up the aspect warriors but dont know how that would fit in (avenger/reaper/dragon are ranged users, banshees and scorpions are assault, and spiders/hawks/spears are fast)

I already provided a suggestion: Seraphim. It would provide a distinctly different fighting style to a footslogger Space Marine, braving the gauntlet of long range fire to hit hard and then fall back instead of just moving forwards into combat range and staying there until one of you is dead.

Just because they haven't officially announced something in a VERY early trailer doesn't mean it's not in the game. I'd definitely say there's potential room for Rogue Traders and the like as the rogue-type class. After all, somebody's gotta look for traps, and it's not going to be the Space Marine.

Well if we used a World of Warcraft comparison like a Warrior vs Paladin
A Warrior and a Paladin both
Can weir plate armor
use just about the same weapon types to do the most damage they can.
deal primarily most of their in melee range
where they differ is in their abilities
(these are tanking abilities but will demonstrate the same point)
Warrior
Disarm/Stuns Not very useful for most encounters
Silences/interrupts are very effective if the fight needs it, but also given to dps classes- good if the tank is alone on the boss as well.
Last stand + enraged regeneration may be a life saver at times
shield wall - 5 minute cooldown@ 60% , 4 minute talented. 2 minute @ 40% glyphed
shield block - 10 seconds of 100% block and block value every 40 seconds, or 30 with 4 piece tier.
critical block- 60% chance to block double the normal amount
Sunder armor - saves the dps from doing it, but not unique
Intervene - lowers threat/ Useful for pauses in fights like frosthowl, otherwise not likely to be used
Vigilance - Very good for our threat, 15% if glyphed.
Taunting - one taunt plus mocking blow ( a taunt if glyphed ) and challenging shout every 3 minutes
Buffs: Depends on raid composition, without other warriors or enough pallies we can bring commanding shout or battle shout, both are improved in a dps spec ( talented )
Paladin
Holy wrath undead stun, hammer of justice stun - not very useful for most encounters
silences/interrupts - hammer of justice, 60 seconds or 40 seconds talented - long cooldown but still usable
Divine protection - 3 minute cooldown @ 50%, 2 minute cd talented, and 1:30 4 piece
ardent defender - 20% less damage taken under 35% and a free death + 30% health every 2 minutes
Laying on of hands - 100% health heal 15 minute CD, 11 talented
Holy shield - 30% block nearly always up
Redoubt - 30% block value, 30% block when procs
Salvation - Lowers enemy threat, ranged buff
Taunting - Single target taunt , as well as a taunt castable on a player, bringing up to 3 mobs to the paladin on a 8 second cooldown.
Buffs: Blessing of sanctuary ( talented ) spec specific. Rest of the buffs are depending on raid make up, Kings, - Might and Wisdom ( both can be improved through talents )
- -Multiple auras for armor, resistances, cast time channeling, etc. Aura mastery improves effects by 100% ( 2 minute cooldown, lasts 10 seconds )
- - Blessing of protection removes many debuffs and makes a raid member immune to physical attacks
Both classes have abilities that accomplish the same thing but at the same time are very different making them two very different classes to play. The same can be done with SM and Sob
Both SM and SoB have
Power Armor
Primarily Use Bolters
Are faithful to the Emperor
Space Marines
I could imagine would use Krak and Frag grenades with specialty ammuntion (explosive, fragmenting, ect). With abilities that are named fairly straight forward and don't really require much of an explanation to what the ability dose because the name of the ability would say it all.
Sisters of Battle
I could imagine would use Incendiary, holly fire(extra damage vs deamons), and Melta type grenades with Blessed ammunition (Incidiary, Holy(extra damage vs deamons), ect). With abilities that have names that might need a slight explanation to what the ability dose but would accomplish the same effect of the SM abilities but in a different way.
That's how I can see Vigil Games differentiating SM from SoB so that a SoB class can be chosen from the start. In the way that the SoB have so much faith in the emperor that if persay they believe that the emperor will grant them flight without the aid of technology SoB can believe in to so faithfully that it would actually happen. Which is why I see them more as a paladin like dps'er than just another warrior dps'er.

That's what chainfists are for. The door might be trapped, but I bet the wall isn't!
I sincerely doubt there's going to be a "Detect Traps" skill. MMOs have been moving away from the "hidden traps, everywhere in every dungeon!" for awhile now, or have been coming up with ways to ensure it's not something that can be done by just one class.
I can see some kind of tech upgrade, though, allowing for the spotting of traps if they're involved.
I do have to wonder just how destructible the environments will be though. Trapped doorway blocking your Guard Squad advance?
Pft. Demo charge the wall!

Or at least I can see it as a class specific upgrade for like a SM Scout or Eldar Ranger.

I don't see SM scouts as a playable path, as an aside.
They'd be far too similar to Guardsmen, but with none of the weaknesses of playing a Guardsman.
