Subject: Re:Lord of the Maelstrom - A Red Corsairs WIP Blog (Jan. 20th update)
I posted here once and was sure I had this subbed... but apparently not. Thanks to Gits for sharing this.
Beautiful conversions and excellent paint! Quite the daunting task to bring all this up to the level you are striving for but everything you've finished so far is excellent and looking great! I really like how you paint flesh / faces, so vibrant and full of character! I'm jealous of the Power Maul you did, I tried for a similar look w/ a model I painted and fell short (but I'm lazy and always looking for the quick way out, so whatever )
I absolutely AM subbed now and I will be back for more updates!

Thanks guys, Its been kinda lonely here. If it wasn't for Gits I would probably have lost all motavation.
@Skalk Bloodaxe
Thanks It is quite daunting, But I keep striving to learn new things and to better meyself. One day i hope to put it all together in to my work. So far everthing i have done is been mostly test out this technique ... okay that worked now try this one. Its one of the reasons why I haven't finished anything.
That and my very short attention span
I really wish I knew what I was doing when I do faces(everytime I type "faces" I think of poo). Each time I end up with different results. Some turn out great and other ...uggh.
But hey I guess that goes for people too.Everyone's different.
The Power maul was my first attempt at it, And I found it very hard to control the Airbrush for that small of a piece. Some of the guys out there make it look so easy. psssfft done! I made sure that I coated the marine in a gloss coat because I had to use alcohol and a brush to strip it back down, everytime I blotched it up.
This guy here is my very first Power Weapon, 3-4 years ago
I haven't really done one since, until now that is.

So I got some work done. But I'm still not finished. I worked on the shoulder pads and the backpack. Basecoated the chainswordand gave it a wash. painted all the gold.
All I have left to do is paint the bone, fix and touch up, base him, and give him a coat of satin varnish. as Mr.Awesome pointed I have one extra day, with out it I dont think I could do it.
Anyway here are the pictures
This guys arms are magnetized. So if I get time I would like to paint other options for him. Most likely Worlf Guard options.
C&C are welcome

So I managed to finish him before 12am. But I was too tired to take pics. Next time I should wait till the PVA glue dries before painting the base. Or better yet I should not do it at the last minute!
I'll take pictures tonight

Sorry guys for not updating, but I dropped the marine while setting up for pictures and been really sick all weekend (both urealated)
The marine needs repair and I'm running out of drugs.
On the bright side, More Dakka finished painting a squad of my marines. I can't wait to pick them up

Sorry to hear about your troubles Styro, but the new, More Dakka painted marines sound like a good step in the right direction. Post a pic of them when you get them, eh?

Hey, this is pretty inspirational. I like how you are getting a model done each month even with everything else you've got going on. You are certainly putting me to shame.
Keep it up, its good work and I'm looking forward to seeing Jans Febs and Marchs models altogther.

Thanks c9805222
It is hard to find time, one model a month means I will only finish 12 models. But in the last few years I have only finished 2 models. I guess it's only one model now. Mr February is in pieces And even then they were only completed because of the Model of the month.
I love the hobby and I'm just glad that Dakka Dakka was not blocked at work, because I dont think I would continue otherwise. There is alot of inspiration in these forums and tons of resources to learn from. The reading here is also a good distraction from work, but on the otherside, when I get home I have Way too many distractions to do much of the hobby.
Soo 12 models in one year is big... Maybe I'll make a calendar!
Anyway So for March I have some work cut out for me. I need to re-base Mr Feb. and glue him back together. Touch up any paint and them finish a new model by the 31st. I guess that sounds easy to most.

I wish I could complete 12 models in one year. Hang on, I just completed 18! Wait... 16 of those were mostly done last year... so that's 8 + 2 = 10 models per year - I'm almost up to you!

At least your not playing a hoard army that needs lots of models like nids or orks...

Just stick with it Styro. You ARE making progress and you've got a solid block of loyal folks who follow your work. Don't get discouraged, just keep looking forward!

Thanks for the kind words. And this is exactly what Im talking about, If it wasn't for Dakka this hobby would be lost to me. I have no intention of quiting, I just wish there were more hours in the day.

Thats funny. I think I do play a Marine Horde army. My last game I had 65 marines! and I have been thinking of droping all my Rhinos to add another 10 marines I find it throws players off
Anyway, Mr. February has been put back together and I'm waiting for the base to dry. If the Ol' Lady leaves me alone then I can paint the base tonight.
Thanks for being patient

I think that may have been cheekily aimed at my Orks, but then, your Marines outnumber my Orks, so works both ways
Oh I just tought Whalemusic360 was talking about his armies, considering he has almost all of the Horde armies from IG to Orks and even Sprueanids!!
Go Sprueanids!

I like him alot. So much that I think its a waste that he is just a regular Grey Hunter. I've been thinking of making him a Wolf guard instead? With Power weapons!!
