Is it bad that I thought Liam Cunningham who played Davos Seaworth would have made a better Stannis?
And yes, Yara was cast bad.
Carice van Houten as Melisandre and Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth (especially Brienne) are very good.
Rose Leslie as Ygritte looks good, but I haven't seen her in the show yet, only pictures.
As for the show, book two had a slow start as well, but it does have a pretty good ending. Once the men of the nights watch get further into North things really start to pick up.

Liam Cunningham looks a lot like Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson of Parks and Rec). Yeah, he probably would've been a better Stannis.
The books are immeasurably better than the show with a few exceptional scenes from season 1.
Ygritte
Spoiler:
Looks like they nailed her appearance. Plain, but still attractive.
Spoiler:
I can't wait for later seasons when Arya goes to Bravos!

I can't wait till she finishes that stuff in Bravos! I hope she assassinates someone eventually!
As for the books being better, you are very right, though I must say these are some of the best "from book to TV" transitions I have seen. I was very depressed about The Legend of the Seeker, so I over look a few things in a Game of Thrones after watching that travesty.
Amaya wrote:Brienne is fething gigantic. She towers over Catelyn in that scene...damn.
I know, isn't she perfect?
I like how she still is attractive. I got the feeling that her unattractiveness in the books was attributed to her size and choice of profession. Of course the characters all thought she was ugly, except...
Spoiler:
Jamie, who actually started to like her eventually. I don't think he admitted it to her, but he really did like her I think.

well he liked her enough to give her oathkeeper. I think he more envied her honor and her moral convictions then he was attracted to her.

True...but
Spoiler:
Wasn't there something akin to the quote from Iron Man? "Well you have actually excellent bone structure there. Iām kinda having a hard time not looking at you now. Is that weird?" It was more or less what he was thinking. BTW he is my favorite character.

Although I've deliberately chosen not to read the books yet, so the events that are 'Sean Bean' in nature will shock me
Damnit I want that little brat Geoffrey to have a horrible death!
Spoiler:
he does
But for the new season it's OK but not to the same level as season 1.
Dany's story is being poorly done imo and they either missed the riot in kings landing or speeding other parts forward
Spoiler:
And Arya's story just feel really annoying and slow when she ran to Braavos
Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing

I don't think Arya's story is running slow, they are touching on all the points, remember she still has to serve as a cup bearer and get the 3 deaths frm the Bravosi
Is it just me or is there a lot more sex in this season? Not that I'm complaining, it just makes it akward when I'm watching it on the train to work...
I've watched the first couple of episodes of season two, and am going to watch more. I have read all of the books and think that they are better than the series.

I was referring to later books, her's is one of the more interesting stories in ACoK

Totally agree. The last episode was better with her scene of being recieved outside the gates of Qarth, but things like the killing of Silver and her one bloodrider, while Dorea is still alive are just pure wtf moments for me.
Spoiler:
Hopefully they do Dany justice when she enters the Palace of Dust and Drogon goes bat***t nuts!
I think that was the first episode they haven't managed to work in some sort of nudity. which is odd because I thought in the books Daenerys was walking around with the left breast exposed as was the custom in quarth.
Spoiler:
but from the looks of things, they never found a budget for a proper battle for kings landing. judging from the fleet of ships they showed, I'm just not seeing any awesome scene with the ships exploding into a river of green flames.
Well, I haven't read the books, and am enjoying the second season as much as the first. Things are moving along, all the characters are as epic as ever, and by the gods do I hate Geoffrey even more now! The imp and his main man are tearing it up nicely, they're probably my favourite characters, besides Aria.
They clearly don't have money for horses, battles, or locations, but the costumes, single combat, and acting are great!
Having read the books I can notice where they deviate in the episodes, but generally I approve as its mostly done because it wouldn't work well in film otherwise or even that they add to the way the story was written.
Spoiler:
In particular, having Tywin be the one to 'save' Arya was a nice touch.

The 9th episode of this season is titled 'Blackwater'. It'll be rather, um, slashy-choppy if you get my meaning!
Spoiler:
Next episode will have dear Jeoffry meeting his adoring people as they let him know just how awsome a king he's turned out to be! Here's hoping they add in a few cries of brother- fer towards Cersi!
No one spoil it for me, but the Greyjoys seem like a bunch of really huge douches. Am I going to be pleasantly surprised or (as I suspect) predictably disappointed?
Is there anyone in this show who isn't a backstabbing, conniving jerk-off?

I think they cut his head off already.

One thing when I was reading the books is this: You will like (or at least feel sympathy for) people you used to hate, you will end up disliking people you used to root for, and some people never change from either side of the spectrum.

In short - No.
Although d-usa has the right of it, it really switches your perception of the characters as time goes on.
Well, there may be one truly neutral/good person:
Spoiler:
I think Varys may be the closest thing so far to a person without any malice, no intend to personally gain from anything, and who just wants what is best for the realm and the people.

I'm not so sure about him, he was plotting with someone in the tunnels about the war between the starks and the lanisters starting to soon. I think he's still a staunch targaryen supporter. I would have went with jon snow, but the last book he just really seemed out of character. I think the only left who's really no longer a backstabbing conniving jerk off would oddly enough be jaime lanister.

I guess part of the problem would be deciding if a stable rule under the Targaryen (even with the occasional mad king) would be better for the realm and the people than continuing wars between "good" kings.

Bronn might qualify, as he has he decency to stab you in the face and warn you that he's willing to do so for the right price.
