Concerning the whole gratuitous nudity and sex issue with this show, there was a good article discussing this in the Daily Beast recently: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2011-06-05/game-of-thrones-sexual-politics/

As was pointed out, HBO, true to form, has added some scenes not in the book (quite often as a way to introduce visual context on something in the future that they do not have the luxury of describing verbally as an author might; but also out of sheer nudity/sex gratuity); but they have also toned some stuff down, in particular the amount of rapine that occurs in the series. (Quite a lot of this I had forgotten about since my read of the books several years ago.)

A good read. Lots of spoiler though, so be forewarned.

Well I was at a crossroads on Sunday night, was sorta bored, been taping the series, but we (myself and Aurelia) where unsure what to make of the ads, as it seemed very low fantasy, (yes I know, thats incorrect, used Wiki to look over the series) which we are typically not fans of.

So we where, shall we just delete them and put a film on, after a few moments of umming and arring, we thought ah, lets just give the first a watch just in case.

Damn, three days later, we've watched the first seven, got the eighth to watch either tonight or tomorrow, and totally loving the series. No idea if I'd like the books, but the characters as shown from the series have really captured my attention.

Excellent stuff, and looking forward to see how the story continues, hope it keeps its popularity to at least see out the first four books.

Catelyn Stark, and his relationship with her. To me it was designed to show that his supposed affection for her has more to do with possession than any sort of love.

I always assumed that nickname had more to do with Jeyne being friends with Sansa, and Arya's lack of conventional femininity. Later on several characters describe her as pretty.

I had never heard of the series until I heard HBO was doing it. Been wanting to check it out for a while and was excited based on the reviews. I finally started watching it (even got my wife into it which is a feat as she generally doesnt like fantasy). Just ordered the books, cant wait! Loving the episodes.

Never read the books so I had no idea what would be happening...

Spoiler:
but I was pretty sad to see Boromir die. I was thinking he was the big star of the show so the whole show was all about him, and you never kill lead characters, except for when Samuel L Jackson got ate up by that shark...

Looking forward to the finale. Glad to hear it's getting a 2nd season, hope they don't Lostifiy it and make it suck :( I have little faith in hollywood these days...

Do they at least keep introducing new characters, or will it eventually just be one dude at the end sitting around twiddling his thumbs?

You get some new characters, and some of the older lesser characters become more important.

If I had to put money on anyone, it would be Snow, Arya, Danaerys and Tyrion, though.

I liked what happened to Tyrion in the big battle.

I don't think there's really any characters I can say I really like though, other than Ned and his bastard kid. And the little girl with the sword maybe. I wanted to like the stargate atlantis conan guy, but his whole barbarian-ness kinda got old :( In fact that whole storyline is kinda just meh to me, I like what's going on in the main kingdoms better.

The Daenarys storyline is important down the road. Exactly how important, we (the readers) will find out in about 3-4 weeks.

As for the main kingdoms...
Spoiler:
it gets even worse, as full blown civil war develops with no side strong enough to win and multiple factions developing.

Fortunately, I like all those characters. Unfortunately, I also like a bunch of the other characters as well.

Spoiler:
I did some research after the first episode just to try to keep characters straight in my head and found out about Ned's untimely demise. Almost made me not want to watch it, but I am glad that I did. It is a great show, but I have also discovered that quite a few other characters don't make it through all the books, which I have decided to start reading.

I hope the show continues to impress me and survives through all the books.

The next book is coming out in the beginning of July. Martin kind of bifurcated the various storylines in the last book, and there was not much new development with Snow, Danerys, etc. This one is supposed to focus more specifically on them.

Last night's season finale was like a glorious locomotive engine of cliffhangers and buildup.

I'm fully endorsing the 'shocking demise' of a leading character because it leaves you baying for her/his enemies to die screaming.

That last scene was pure gold.

Now eagerly anticipating the next series in 2012.

This program is /stompa-endorsed.

I liked it overall, but for me it started kinda slow but I liked it more as the show went on. I guess I get the point about "game of thrones" is all these different people want to be king and stuff.. but I think I was expecting Lord of the Rings: The Series.

The very end with the little babies was a nice hint of things to come, I just hope there's fantasy next season. If I want politics, I'll watch CNN.

I guess the budget was a little too tight for too many special effects, but hopefully the first season's success will give em more cash to spend there. Or will they just spend it all on some famousy person just to kill off?

Heh, that was pretty good.

At the very least, I've been inspired to pick up the first book. Maybe the whole series will tide me over until the next season starts. I doubt it'll take me that long to finish them though, haha.
