Just started a new thread on this and it was locked already! Darn you mods are quick! Sorry, I did try the search function, but nothing came up. Not really an excuse as this was on the first page! I'll just paste my comments from there:
I've been blown away! I actually cheered at one point! Full, off the couch, double arm-pumping cheer! My brother has tried to get me to read the books for awhile now, but I never got around to it - now I see why he was so adamant!
And I hate TV, and rarely watch it. But now I'm over at my buddy's, with bells on, for each new episode! It's not TV, its Fantasy, that's what I keep telling myself! Good acting, tons of cool characters, plotlines galore, sex, violence, undead, dragons, giant swords, dire wolves - ITS NERD HEAVEN BABY! BOOYA!

I read an interesting article from the producers concerning their budget as well as whether they would actually do a battle scene. They said they would rather do it "right" rather than have a poorly done battle scene; and they will have to inject a lot more CGI in for next year. Although I have a feeling that we will probably see more battles and fights, particularly as Gregor goes on his rampage.
And Tyrion acting as Hand and trying to reign in his nephew and sister = pure gold.

Not at all...
The next book in the series is slated to come out in about 3 weeks. They are well worth a read.

I have had the first book in my possession for several years now, but haven't read it yet. After watching the series though, I've decided to start reading it (or trying to when I find a chance to read). I was very impressed with the series and looking forward to next season. I am only 125 pages into the book, but can already tell that it will live up to all the hype. I would recommend reading it even after watching the series.

Yeah it is 10 episodes. Just go ahead and start reading the books. You will not be disappointed. I read all the books and enjoyed every minute of the show.
Zefig wrote:biccat wrote:Recently read this.

Heh, that was pretty good.
At the very least, I've been inspired to pick up the first book. Maybe the whole series will tide me over until the next season starts. I doubt it'll take me that long to finish them though, haha.
It won't. Ask anyone who has read the books. They are like crack. My wife started book 2 yesterday and she is halfway through it.

Yes the end of the series was the end of book 1. I believe that they are going to have each book as one series. However I hope they do something different with the 4th and 5th series. You see the fourth book ended up being really long, so they split it into two books. Basically the took half the characters for one book and the other half for book 5. The two books are supposed to be happening at the same time, so hopefully they will do something different with the show and mix the two books together into two seasons that show a little for each character.

I'm fully endorsing the 'shocking demise' of a leading character because it leaves you baying for her/his enemies to die screaming.
It also helps that the character who had him killed is basically an insolent child.
Anyway, I love how the series has unfolded, the guy playing Robb Stark, in particular, has been very good; though he also benefits from being Ned's replacement.
I'm also a fan of the foreshadowing that has taken place. For example, I chuckled a bit when Jorah kills Drogo's mutinous blood rider by trapping his arakh against his armor, after commenting several episodes before that arakhs can't pierce plate.

For those of you who have read the books, the first review (that I have seen) of Dance with Dragons is in: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/07/06/george-r-r-martin-s-a-dance-with-dragons-the-latest-book-in-his-a-song-of-ice-and-fire-series.html
Beware, if you haven't read the books, it has lots of spoilers and references from the previous books for what happens after GOT's.

The cold winds are rising.
Looking forwards to seeing Dany get a bit more kick@$$ this season!
Hopefully the show keeps the initial meeting between Tyrion & Cersi exactly as it is in the book, since it's another classic Tyrion moment!

Well, they ended up shooting all of the Night's Watch story over in Iceland for this season, so costs are definately going up! Mind you, if they can keep producing the same kind of end product they did last season, then HBO should hopefully still see the series as a cash-cow since there isn't any other fantasy type series that comes close to GoT's currently on tv right now...
My main worry is what the hell they're going to do come the 4th book.
