Spoiler:
I guess they can easily get back to the original story beyond the wall. Just make Jon wake up next morning with no idea what happened. That way we get a hint at what might have happened there, and jon remains ignorant of it.....

I am however sligtly annoyed at Danys storyline.... first they kill her silver in ep1, and now one of her bloodriders as well.... both incidents are not in the book!

But Stannis' and Melisandres ( ) bit on the westeros table was quite clearly mentioned in the books

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

Seriously, he's basically got a 3 season repreive until his next book has to be done now so it can be filmed if the show keeps going.

Though I there is a lot of dead time in Feast and Dance there is enough for 10 episodes of each but then he's out of books.....

As a side note I truly dislike Martin. I'll be purchasing the next book used so that he doesn't get royalties from me. I'm not super excited based on how much Dance annoyed me anyway.

I havent quite got to the end of Dance yet (about 2/3 the way through), but I think it would be benificial if they made Feast and Dance into a single (maybe 12-15 episode long) series and intercut the storylines, rather than splitting them and then having to go back in time as they did in the books.

I can't imagine people that haven't read the books being able to keep track of whats going on with Jon, Dany and Tyrion ect if theres an entire 10 episode series (and over a year in real time) between their appearence in Storm and Dance.

Read that announcement again, gents. I believe it said season 3 will be the first HALF of Storm of Swords. They're really gonna milk it. On the other hand, more Game of Thrones.

Is there something im missing here though about grrm or are you guys just impatient? He seems like a cool guy with a good relationship with his fans to me.

They should make one series from the first hald of feast and the first half of dance combined. That way we viewers would get all the characters in one go, not like feast were the majority of characters was not very interesting.....

To be fair in the UK "Storm of Swords" is sold as 2 books, as is "Dance with Dragons".
I know it isn't in the US as that is where I got my copy.

I bet that's what they'll do. Especially from a casting/filming perspective. I must be in the minority enjoying Feast, though. Not a big fan of cersei, but I've really gotten to like brienne and the other newcomers brought in some cool new plots.

I'm halfway through Dance now just finished the chapter on Ramsay's wedding, and Reek is really starting to piss me off.

One of the reasons they are splitting the book in to two seasons is so he can have more time to write the next book. He is also only writing one episode in the season, not the whole thing.

I understand when a book has taken a really long time like with Dance, but this is just silly.....

I did actually enjoy Feast, even though there were boring characters. But I really like Sam, Brienne and Arya, so it was OK.

Also, recognize this guy?

I'm SO glad to read that I am not the only one annoyed about A Dance with Dragons. As far as storyline that book could have been 1/10th the number of pages. Looking back, I think my favorite part was learning more about Barristan the Bold. Disappointing . . .

I just watched the 1st season on DVD and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really only was annoyed by a few things, probably the most in the casting of Renly. I thought he was too overtly homosexual, IIRC he was a consumate jouster so I think they should have chosen a more athletic looking actor. I did not have a problem with the private scene with Loras, it was a good way to introduce the relationship to non-readers, but I dislike how effeminate Renly appears in other scenes.

Oh well, most of my gripes are small, great to see a serious attempt at fantasy. Other than Lord of the Rings, we don't have a lot of well done fantasy in visual media (ignoring games of course).

You do realize that Feast also took 5 years right? So he first published 3 books in 4 years and now he can't finish a single book in 5 years. It's a bit of a pain when a lot of the community has authors that produce quality writing for major series every year or every second year instead of one every half a decade. I see his continual delays while he milks the series as a bit of a slap in the face to his readers.

To each their own I suppose.

Feast took forever because he was originally going to a several year leap forward and had written something like 500~ pages before ditching that idea and redoing AFFC/DoD in the present time.

Edit: I don't see it as a slap to the readers. He'd make more money developing a rabid fan base for the books and pumping a new one out every year or two like Rowling did. Taking forever to write the novels decreases the size of his original fan base and hurts his personal income.

He is a notoriously slow writer. How is he using this to milk the series? He gets paid based on book sales. The older books actually sell better every time he puts out a new book. Because people are then introduced to the series through promotions of the new book and so forth. Really, he has been shooting himself in the foot as far as money goes with his slow writing.

But, he now has a deadline to get his books out where in the past he wrote at his leisure. I would rather him take 10 years and put out a well thought out and written book than push one out in 2 years that looks like he is just trying to appease his fans.

First off bear in mind that by milking it I'm not referring to the books themselves. The guy spends tons of time at cons and signings. He gets to stroke his ego for years with this series. This is what I mean by milking it. If he finishes it then he's off the circuit until he starts something new and his income drops.

Secondly it's his attitude on his blog while he was writing feast that started to really turn me off of him. And his patent inability to meet a deadline even he sets which makes me nuts.

Third he's only been known as slow writer more recently based on how little he's produced in the last 11 years.....

He wrote 3 books in 4 years that are the best out of the 5 he's written for the series. The ones he's taken years to write are worse than the quick ones and far more full of fluffer than they need to be.

Like I said. To each their own. I'll support authors that are awesome, open, produce, keep to a timetable, and are great in person.

he also wrote a few books in a different series, the wild cards or something. that was also part of the reason he took 5 years between books.

From what I have heard about this man at cons, he is nothing but awesome. Plus, as far as him milking cons, look at some of the people who get invites every year to conventions who have not done anything relevant in that area in years, some even decades.

You also have to remember with him, he is an editor for quite a few things and he does help write another series of books. So he has put out quite a few things in the past few years. The man has a lot going on. Personally, I find it ridiculous for his fans to get bent out of shape because they expect him to do nothing but live at his desk until his next book is done.

This is how it seems to me.

I started reading the Dark Tower Series in the early 90s. Don't talk to me about waiting for long stretches between books.

How is season 2? I haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet, but some of the scenes up on youtube are extremely unimpressive especially Dany's arrival at Qarth.

That's pretty lame...and I don't really care for any of the new characters. The casting was bad, especially Stannis and Yara. Stannis is just absolutely terrible.
