I must admit, I don't like the dominance by professional painters. They're pretty, but I want to see what other hobbyists are doing, not what the pros are doing. As a result I spend much less time there than I used to.

Beautiful stuff there but it is all the same now with very few changes. I'm also amazed how many people don't tag their images, almost every other one I vote on it asks me to label/tag them, I've done thousands but I'm getting a bit bored of it!

I've done the same.

I'm never quite sure as some of the really fantastic images just get pimped around in order to build buzz or a reputation for a painter who otherwise doesn't contribute to the forum. Guess I'd rather spend my time building a rep for regular dakkanoughts... the pro's don't need my help.

Didn't get anything done this weekend as it was my sisters wedding! I was up until 1:30 making her wedding cake on Friday and Saturday was rather boozy.

I think you are right Gits they are no good if they don't contribute on the blogs and forums. Always more interesting if some one gives a tutorial on how it was done. I wish I had taken more photos of my landspeeder in production, so many people asked for a tutorial.

Ok, managed to finish Tac squad 3 today! Or so I thought, having uploaded the pics I can see I have forgotten to paint a couple of things!Grrrrrr! So often the way.

Here they are with a bit of work still to do;

The camera miss focused on this one I thought it looked cool though!

Apollo, Tac marine;

Serg and marine;

Serg;

Took this one to show the tear gem on his shoulder;

Finished squad, well nearly! The varnish is giving a bit too much shine to the models imo.

Well I played a game against Nids last night, Dawn of war, two bases. Managed to win it after a bloody battle! Had my MVP, a flamer Tac marine who survived two turns after his squad was massacred by umagaunts? Some kind of nasty Genestealers anyway. He was also charged by a Lictor which then ran away only to come back and finally kill him. In honour of his heroic feats I have added a green cross shield to his pauldron to commemorate the battle!

So tonight I have been painting my all time favourite marine as a motivational piece. Done the basics a bit of flat colour and the eye lenses. Loads more work still to do but I am painting only him as a treat, I'll get back to batch painting shortly!

So here's some pics;

You mind putting up a mini-tut? I go for a similar effect with my MWs but I don't think my version is as effective as yours.

Thanks Hazzer, welcome on board! I have highlighted them and they really look better in real life but my flash is a bit harsh. I do intend weathering the entire army later. I suppose I am lucky enough to be ale to spend on my hobby but this has been accumulated over many years and there was a point where I was a staff member at GW which gave me a discount too! Btw had a look at your blog, I'll post on there soon.

Ok so some readers/followers wanted a mini tutorial on eye lenses after seeing this guy;

For green lenses you will need the following paints;

So start with the model eyes not painted;

Paint an undercoat of Dark angels green on the lens

Then a layer 50/50 of Dark angels green/snot green along the bottom covering most of the lens;

Sorry it is hard to see that layer but it is there!

Next add some skull white to the mix and paint a thinner line on the lower section again trying to leave the original colours still visible;

Next add some pure skull white, try to add a small spot and then draw it along your line. Note how badly I have done this, it doesn't matter we will tidy it up later!

Now add a thin layer of Tamiya clear green over the entire lens;

Now add another white dot on the bottom highlight and another at the top in the really dark bit, again try and draw the dot on the bottom out along the line. You can see again I haven't been that neat but not to worry the next step will sort that out!

Finally tidy it up with a little more clear green. sorry you cant see the other high dot in this picture but you get the idea!

Better to sit quietly and look the fool than to open your mouth and confirm the fact!

About the same Reaper... but that clear coat is something I don't currently have in my painting arsenal. Though I suppose a wash might work, color of the washes isn't usually that intense in small doses though.

The clear green is a bit more "shiny" than a wash and also reflects a bit of light itself. Great stuff just don't use your best brush with it because it doesn't come off as easy as GWs paint.

So got a bit more done today, I'm really surprised how little I've got done this week mainly owing to the festive season!

So more work on the Sternguard Vet, firstly I graduated the grey pieces on him;

Some of it is still a bit rough, like on the scroll work but I'll tidy that up later.

Next I went to work on the yellow trim around the shoulder pads, highlighting up to Skull White with mixes of Sunburst Yellow and the base of Iyanden Darksun;

After that I started on the laurels on his power fist, worked up from Dark Angels Green through Snot Green to a mostly Skull White with Snot Green mix;

Well off down the pub for a Christmas pint now! Cheers and happy Xmas!
