I'm sad. I'm very proud of how my Ghulam doctor is shaping up, but I never even considered entering it.

I'm not done yet but I'm not quite pleased with how the colors turned out...
darker than expected =(
And the edge highlights are way too thick.
Too bad the brush I ordered won't be here in time.

Next contest I guess =P

@-Loki-: You mean you didn't take WIP pictures in front of Dakka for *all* of your models just in case? (I had six potentials to choose from - not that I have finished the other 5 yet...)

@Von Skyfury: Enter it anyway - you learn more about the whole process by participating - makes the next contest easier

Solid. Snapped all my pics over the weekend, so I'm going to sort through em' till I find the one I like.

At least now I'm free up to get back to 'normal' painting and whatnot. Really really looking forward to what everyone else posts.

It's official: I'm stressed. My sister's wedding is on Saturday and I need to make her cake toppers, plus organize her bride party thingie, plus talk to the emcee, plus redo my contest entry.

That, or just stick with what I have so that I won't shorten my lifespan for about twelve years or so.

Seriously, stress. Hope I had budgeted my time better. Still looking forward to everyone's entries.

Wait.. we had to take a photo in front of Dakka?

Why when the submitted photos have a time and date stamp?

Had to go find the relevant quote to make sure I wasn't making things up again...

inquisitorlewis wrote:Please remember to snap a dated WIP shot of your model. Best way is to just place the mini in front of your computer screen with this thread open.

I suspect because submitted photo time and date stamps can be modified? I'd take it up with inquisitorlewis if it's going to be a problem.

As I said a few pages back, the EXIF data is not an adequate proof you didn't start your entry before the contest. It's far too easily changed with software or even just changing your camera's clock.

A photo in front of the contest thread (or on top of the day's newspaper, etc - just something that couldn't have existed before the appropriate date) is harder to fake.

Humm...Looks like I missed that part...
So if I only took a picture with an internet calendar in the back, I can't enter the contest ? =(

Don't panic guys. Dakka's a bunch of chaps like you, not the DMV.

If you think you might have botched something, contact one of the chaps running the competition and ask them. Explain your concern, and see what's up.

Pretty sure if there's an issue everyone can get it straightened out, no problem.

Anyway, the plan is not to win, just to get comments on how to improve =P
So worst case scenario : I'll make my own topic showing my mini =)

...well said, but for future reference, something that only has the date on it is a BAD proof of date. It really needs something that you couldn't have had prior knowledge of - the exact wording of somebody's forum post, what the day's headline was, etc.

As I've said before, how I tend to date things is take a photo in front of stock prices. Something like the table on this page. All those prices are completely verifiable and I couldn't possibly have known them before the previous close, so just about all non-photomanipulated fakery is ruled out at that point.

Right, well lesson learned I guess?

I just did the old fashioned newspaper thing. It's classic.

For anyone who has questions, shoot them here, and they should get back to you in a timely manner.

You could easily fake those with time travel.

Any tutorials out there how to make a working TARDIS?

If I had time travel, I wouldn't be using it to try and improve my chances of winning a €100 competition, I'd be writing down lottery numbers.

It kinda sucks to have to put something like a newspaper or screen showing dakka behind your mini...it's a distraction. Would be much better to have a neutral background.

Um, really Cave?

You're taking a picture of your Starting Point. Like the model still in the blister pack, or the model primed with no paint on it.

You're just snapping the pic for a date, not for photogenic purposes.

We're snapping pictures for dates? Haven't had a date in two months...

...and I really should be working on my sister's wedding and entry, rather than spamming the forums.

This is awesome it will be my first painting contest
Even though i wont be likely winning, making the extra effort led to my best painted infantry size model to date.

Really look forward to seeing all the entries, good luck all.
all that is left is getting a good photo

Eh, well I had better read the rules pack completely next time and not skim as I missed the paper/dakka part of the WiP photo. I did however use my iPhone to take the undercoast/WiP photos so I should be ok. I've no real chance of winning, but it was worth doing just to push my painting up another notch, and I will be very happy when I can field that particular mini on the table. It's just a bit of fun at the end of the day, so enter your minis regardless of how you feel and I'm sure you will learn something new in the process.

I have to say I'm a little shocked by how many people didn't read the rules thoroughly.

I'd hate for an awesome model to get DQ'd for something like that.

Truth be told the wait is absolutely killing me. I can't wait to see what else people have worked on. And a little bit of wanting to show off what I can do and to get feedback on that as well.

Ah well.. I'm out then in that case!

Couple of layers of paint into my guy, and not time to start another. I'll submit my stuff with the WIP shot as is, if they think anyone would go so far as to hacking software to try and get an unfair advantage for something like this then I don't care if I'm excluded as I want no part of it.

I have a photo on a dated sheet of paper with the model primed and with a single colour, and a photo of it against my computer's clock in the same condition. I'm hoping that's enough to not get me disqualified, since I did put a fair bit of work into my entry.

Just need to base it now.
