A Dakka Tutorial Challenge - 'Get Your Teach On!'

What an amazing success this tutorial challenge turned out to be, as we received over 45 amazing painting and modeling tutorials posted in the month of May!!! Kudos to everyone who took the time to post a tutorial. . .I think this site and the hobby in general is a better place when people take the time to share their knowledge with others.

But right now its time for the all important public vote to narrow the entries down to the TOP FIVE FINALISTS for the judges to vote on! To review the full rules for the contest click here!

Remember: You can vote for as many entries as you like!
Vote for at LEAST one, but feel free to throw votes around to as many of the entries as you feel deserve it based on whatever criteria works for you. Remember the goal of this challenge was just to create the 'best' painting, modeling or hobby tutorial, so whatever that means to you, vote that way (I highly recommend getting a pen and paper to write down all your favorites you plan to vote for as you scroll through them all)!

The top five entries with the highest number of votes after around four days of public voting will become our finalists from which a winner will then be picked by a panel of judges. Entries marked as a 'mod entry' are not eligible for finals consideration but that doesn't mean you shouldn't still vote for them!!!

The winner, as picked by the judges, will be getting that whopping £130 (GBP) in-store credit plus free world-wide shipping from WaylandGames.co.uk.

To refresh yourself on any of the entries, click below on any of them to be taken to the original tutorial thread and get your learn on.

Good luck to all entrants in the poll!

Man it was really hard to pick.

My vote was based on the scope of the tutorial (is it too easy, too difficult to repeat), use to me (will I be inspired to follow the tutorial), the amount of materials involved (could I afford to use the tuturial), and finally neatness of the tuturial (well written, does it match the original scope of the instructor).

Great job to everybody and thanks for the work.

Wow! Great work everyone! ...and to yakface for putting it all together! I missed some of these during the month but now that I've read through them, there is some fantastic stuff here! This contest is a boon for DakkaDakka!

I tended to vote for the ones anyone and everyone can use, regardless of their army, game or skill level.

Lol, right there with your dashrendar! There was such a great turnout and that the content of the tutorials had a little bit of everything in the hobby for all levels of skill. Definitely added much needed content to the tutorial forum!

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

I'm sure Yakface and LegoBurner will come up with another good idea. Thanks to LBursley for coming up with this one! I've learned a lot and now have more creative inspirations than I can do anything with at the moment.

I'd recommend turning most of these tutorials into articles as soon as possible after the contest before they sink down into the expected deluge of new P&M tutorials. They're easier to find as articles since they are sorted by type (if the author builds them correctly). I know I don't want to spend a long time searching for Insaniak and Whatwhat's GS tutorials. If only my new Procreate putty and clay shapers would get here sooner...

Yep, I know. I was just "beating the drum". I'd like to be able to get to many of these tutorials again. I can't try all of the ones that I like in a year much less a month, and by the time I get around to most of them, they will be way down deep in the thread pile.

I'll be turning mine into an article as soon as the contest ends. There's already a spot in the articles for casting that is basically an empty placeholder. There's a couple of really experienced casters (BrotherArgos and Sersi come to mind immediately) on Dakka that should probably write articles on the finer points of casting using pressure pots, vacuum chambers, and other equipment. I'll stick to the easy stuff, but I wouldn't mind learning more from the experts.

I was speaking about adding on to Scarab's FAQ article on casting at http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Dakka_Modeling_FAQ:_Casting. Is there another casting section in the articles?
