As I suggested above, it may be that the core chassis is on one sprue, with the War Altar bits on a second, and the Death Ray/Planetarium bits on a third. Package sprues A & B for the Altar, and sprues A & C for crazy wizard shenanigans...

What is the Warrior Priest model to the right of Volkmar on the other (right) page that we can't clearly see in the picture?

It doesn't appear to be a different build of Volkmar, so is there perhaps an additional plastic Warrior Priest in that kit to use as Arch Lector (I think it says under the picture)?

I've changed mt mind on the Gryphon. I like it. If they're pushing religions in the Empire this time round, I might have a look in on them. At the very least, I'll pick up the Gryphon for my Chaos Warriors. What I'd use it for... I dunno. But it's really grown on me over the last day or so.

What I can get from the WD:

units led by Empire Generals and Captains roll 3D6 for Break Test, discard highest;
Witch Hunters have Sniper and Killing Blow;
Imperial Griffons are S6, 5W - I don't have my old Army Book here, but it seems to me these are different? They can be two-headed as a special option (with built-in game effect);
Karl Franz grants his Ld to models within 18"; 24" if he is upon Deathclaw or the Imperial Dragon;
Deathclaw has +1 A and Ld respect an Imperial Griffon, the usual faithful rule and makes enemy units roll an additional D6, discard lowest when testing Fear/Terror caused by it.

The General on the Imperial Griffon model has the option of two heads (helmetd or not) and lance or sword (different from the Reikland Runefang).
The two magic altars can be fielded without Wizard on top, thus counting as a rare choice (I guess that was already known).
Demi-Gryphs Knights with cavalry halberds are shown with the shield too (I guess they'll use it only against shooting).

Technically it is that the horses are growing to match their oversized riders, rather than the horses being to small. They are already too big for historical/realistic horses.

According to someone in the Warseer thread it's a legitimate 15th century fencing pose.

Still looks silly, though.

Since Fencing in a historical context means "Historical European Martial Arts". Also, "the action or art of using the sword scientifically" is in the OED as one definition of Fencing dating back to the 16th Century.

Fencing with Foils, Epees, and Sabers is actually called Modern Fencing and derives from the French school of fencing.

Witch Hunters get Sniper and Killing Blow? Oh yes... that makes him perfect to model my Tilean First Sword after with two pistols and Fencer's Blades (Hopefully they still get 50 pts of magic items).

"I am the First Sword of Tilea... and you will be speaking to me with more respect."

My interests have piqued again to make this project work.

Eltherion is at least parrying with the blade in a somewhat realistic manner and the model flows with that motion. The Captain is doing a reinforced pommel thrust which is generally used against a grounded opponent with a double handed sword but his stance and blade angle is a forward thrusting stance. Not to mention the cloak is going the wrong way for either, but we should be used to that by now.

So where do all the ostriches live in the old world? Does the Empire own farms of giant mutated chickens?
Where do they get all these huge feathers that would need to be replaced after every battle or stiff breeze?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I would rather they used the War Altar kit chassis for a War Wagon than those magic thingies. I dont mind one large magic apparatus but two and no War Wagon, we have been had.

Wow that griffon thing is ugly, looks like someone bolted the steam tank to the front of it and called it a job well done! All the chariots look weird to me but I can see how they fit in with the empire aesthetic. The knights however look pretty cool

Just today I realized that the new/biggerized gryphon matches extremely closely with the Blanche (i think?) art of Karl Franz on Deathclaw (from the main rulebook, fluff section on the Empire's history). The similarity reminds me strongly of the zombie dragon likeness that was captured from the art to model; I am impressed.

I like the griffon less with the better pictures. The demi-griffons are better than I thought, but still not great. I wonder what they would look like with the white lion heads?

The witch hunter is pretty cool... but finecast means no. The plastic heros are interesting, and I am pleased to see that the Perry brothers did them.

Awesome isn't it?
Besides being a throwback art reference I love that it has a distinct "shape". So many of GW's previous ridden monsters were all basically the same pose and bulk. I know some people will hate it but I'd love to see them take a more stylised approach to their monsters.
