Hello,

I am working on converting what frost axe out of a thunderhammer. I am curious to know what you guys think about the conversion. The entire model is a WIP, hence the blue tacky putty. The shaft may be to long to look cool. What do you guys think? I've huge respect for the opinions of this community, and would appreciate having some constructive criticism before I continue working.

Thanks in advance! And if you feel like continue to be helpful, this is a link to the rest of the WIP army. Please let me know what you think about the modeling/painting while I still have time to make adjustments.

It is a bit long but it is seamless so it should be ok. Some of the double handed axes that were used throughout history were pretty long.

If you have to ask, the answer is that it needs to be a little bigger.

It's not how big it is, its how the terminator will use it.

I really like it exactly the way it is. The weapon as a whole is large enough for no regular person to ever be able to be holding it with one hand, but the axe-head isn't so large that there's no way that ANYBODY could ever hold it, space marine or not.

I mean, the axe-head is already 5x the size of his head, how much bigger does it really need to be? It's actually one of my mild pet-peeves: marine players who think that marines are so bamf that they can lug around impossible weapons.

This guy = properly sized giant axe:

I love it. I was expecting it to be some big Buster Sword style thing, and I was already preparing to say "no".

This however, is much smaller than I was expecting. And therefore the answer is "no".

The axe rocks.

I like it a lot. I'd would add my voice to those saying keep it as it is. It looks well balanced and a two handed swing for that thing will cut through anything !

He isnt swinging it with one hand so its pretty good. Plus its resting on his leg, again, good. The blade isnt super huge too which makes it more realistic.

If it was mine though, I would shorten the handle part.

If it were a regular person swinging it, way too big.

This is a Space Marine. He's doing it one handed. It's fine.

Keep it.

"Honey, does this make my AXE look big? "

No, I think it looks just fine !!

Seriously, though. I like it ... it's reminiscent of the medieval warhammers that were designed for knights on horseback ... long shaft to reach the foot soldiers.

Actually, yeah. That's exactly what it looks like.

Except beefier, because he's a space marine, but still within the realms of reason, therefore good.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am feeling all the calls for a two headed axe! This occurred to me while I was modeling it, but I'm running low on the bits. Yet again, I must go crawling to ebay. The halberd type point might work too... I will begin rummaging through my chaos bits to see if I can find anything that works. Some of those responses cracked me up.

Someone on Bolter and Chainsword got me to thinking what this axe might look like up against some monstrous creatures. I snatched a few of the shelf and took some quick and dirty pictures.

Funny enough, When I was converting this hive tyrant, I specifically sculpted the neck to make sure that it's snarling face would be right up against a space marine's so they could look each other in the eye.
