Lord Commander in a Plush Chair

Years ago I tried to cross them all off a list that was published in the back of White Dwarf. If I went to a town or city with a GW, I would try to visit it so that I had been to as many different ones as possible. Just seemed the thing to do when I was younger, but they opened so many I couldn't do them all.
Judging by the comments of some Americans, they are lucky to have ever been in one let alone dozens. How many have you been in?

At the most 5 or so and that's spaced over 20 odd years of gaming. Even when I was new to wargaming, I used to dislike going into GW stores and nowadays I avoid them like the plague, unless I desperately need something now and there is no other alternative.

Eight.
5 in Sydney (cbd, Chatswood, Parramatta, Miranda, Castle towers)
1 in Wollongong (it only has one).
1 in Melbourne (when there was only one).
1 in Newcastle (it also fortunately only has one).
Last time I was in the US, there were NO GW stores.

I've been to 4, but that includes two that are basically the same shop (was closed and re-located 5/10 minutes away from the original).
Luckily my nearest GW (Poole) is the only one I've been to that is actually run by a nice guy, so I have no issues going in there whenever I need anything! I avoid the others as much as possible though!

I've dug out an old White Dwarf and checked off my list, here it is. A couple I'm not sure of, I've been to these places but maybe didn't make it to GW.
Bath
Birmingham
Bristol
Bournmouth
Cambridge
Cardiff
Chester
Darlington
Derby
Dudley
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Gloucester
Leeds
Lincoln
Newport
Norwich
Nottingham City
Nottingham HQ
Oxford
Plymouth
Portsmouth
Reading
Salsibury
Shrewsbury (I think)
St Albans
Stockport (I think)
Swansea
Torquay
Truro
Winchester (I think)
Woking
Worcester (I think)
York
I've only been to GW a couple of times in the last 5 years though, most of these I visited before I went to Uni and a few have changed their names. Merry Hill shopping centre is now Dudley and it was there that we stopped on the way past so I could get a Great Unclean One waaaaay back in about 1990, because there wasn't a shop in Wales.

I am planning on getting to the GW in NYC before the year is out however.

Been to two in my life and they both closed years ago. The nearest location is far enough away that I don't foresee ever entering another again. (Not that I'm despairing the loss. The several LGS in my area are perfectly adequate.)

5 different stores, I think. The first one I ever visited wasn't in Spain - 1 Amsterdam, very close to Dam square. Bought an English WD and a WFB Daemon Prince. It was around March 2000. The WD issue had a Land Raider poster, and the Daemon Prince was the older metal version. The redshirt look like a nice guy, but I didn't speak much english at the time, so I just looked and bought. - 1 Barcelona, Consell de cent, I've been a couple of times there. - 2 Madrid, Don Ramón de la Cruz and Princesa, I've been once in Princesa and a couple of times in Don Ramón de la Cruz. - 1 Pamplona, few years ago they opened one in my city! Well, I actually live in a town close to Pamplona, but it takes me like 20 minutes to get there. I use to go a couple of times each month.

2, Bath and Poole. Much prefer the Poole one as it's bigger and has better staff. Not that the Bath store is bad but the Poole one is actually a pleasure to go to.

I've been to the following stores: New York City, Upper East Side- Closed New York City, Upper West Side- Closed New York City, Queens- Closed New York City, The Village- It's the only one left in NYC; unfortunately the back seat of my car is more spacious. Amsterdam, NL Dublin, IL Howard A Treesong wrote:Judging by the comments of some Americans, they are lucky to have ever been in one let alone dozens. How many have you been in? Games Workshop stores are few and far between in the States. The entire Northeast US (and lets face it, that's the important part ) has a grand total of three stores- one in NYC, one in Philadelphia, and one somewhere in Jersey. Boston, the tenth largest metropolitan area in the country* and home to four national sports teams, does not have a single GW. The population of this region is just a little lower than the population of the entire UK (55m vs. 62m) and dwarfs the UK in size (488k sq. km vs. 244k sq. km). That being said, it does look like GWs are more common in other areas of the country (Texas has 9, Washington State has 10, Maryland has 9, California has 10) but the Northeast isn't the only place with next to no GWs. Illinois (Chicago), Colorado (Denver), Ohio (Cleveland and Cincinnati), and Florida (Miami, Tampa Bay, Orlando) all have no Games Workshops at all. *Although the city is sort of small at 600k, the metropolitan area is pretty enormous. Look it up if you don't believe me.

Hmm all the ones near me and plenty while on hols, travelling about for work or visiting new store for the opening day discounts back before the internet! So off the top of my head; Southend Chelmsford Romford Lakeside Bluewater Oxford Street Covent Garden Colchester Ipswich Brighton Newcastle Tunbridge Wells Canterbury Nottingham - Warhammer World Madrid Paris And I drove past one in Florida once I think? Possibly a few more on the south coast but at my age I struggle to remember the important stuff never mind GW stores. Oh forgot the best one, Hammersmith about 15 years ago. See I said I was getting old!

One in Syracuse, NY 5 years ago. It closed down the next year, but the staff was helpful, didn't try to over sell, asked what I was considering getting, and showed me all of the models and didn't try to push me to the most expensive thing. All in all, a very pleasant experience. Do still want to get to the one in NYC some time, as I live only a few hours away.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Just the one in Philadelphia, on Cottman Ave.
It's ok (for only a 1 man operation and essentially a broom closet), and from what I can remember the redshirt there was a pretty decent guy.
But I had 3 FLGS that sold GW stuff for lower prices, and they were closer and, well, better.
I have to say, as a yank, I'm slightly amazed by the amount of locations posted by all the Brits.

Its not hard when you consider the nearest 4 to me are within 20 miles, and that without entering London where there are 8+ more within 60 miles of me.
But then you in the US seem to have an independent or three in every town plus giant sized hobbymarts or whatever you call them, seems that the US is better to me.
Personally Wayland Games is about 20 miles away so thats where I usually go.
