Hey guys,

So I've been an admirer of 40k for years now but have never gotten into it because I couldn't find friends who were interested in playing. Finally decided to hell with it, I want to do it for me, so I'm picking up an Assault on Black Reach kit this week, digging out my brushes and GW paints (I have 6-7 from working on custom figs), and diving in.

Looking forward to perusing all the painting guides here and getting help from you pros of the hobby. Feel free to ask me anything, as I'm sure I'll be bugging you guys with questions soon enough

I had the same problem when I started playing years ago, all my friends thought it was too dorky to participate in. I said screw it finally and bought some models then a funny thing happened, those friends that said how dorky it was thought my models were awesome. Now they play, go figure. You'll meet plenty of cool peeps to play with at your local hobby center anyway. Good to hear you're joining the community, welcome!

If anyone can help me out, I do have a quick question: Would you recommend this Vallejo starter set of paints as a good compliment to the Assault on Black Reach set (http://www.thewarstore.com/product56377.html)?

It seems to have everything needed for some traditional paint schemes for space marines and orcs, but I'd like a second opinion if anyone has it.

Vallejo paints are great! I use them almost exclusively, the dropper bottles are great for reducing paint waste. That set looks pretty good. Plus you can mix those colors to make your highlight colors and other colors you may need. I say its a good start.
