The Black Sword is just the name of Azrael's super cool sword, Sammael and Belial just have master-crafted power swords. I guess they could be black if you wanted them to be.

Interestingly enough, it's also the name of the Emperor's Champion's sword.
It's all so clear now: the secret of the Dark Angels isn't that the fallen exist, it's that they and the Black Templars are the same Chapter, and Azrael is the Emperor's Champion!!

Actually, it isn't and never has been called the Black Sword.
Azrael has always had Tthe Sword Of Secrets. In Third Editition pamphlet it was a weapon that a dark angel captain could take (one per army) for 40 pts that was a strength 6 power weapon. Basically someone else was using his sword or you were running your own Grand Master.
Then later in the Chaos Codex they got a demon weapon called the black sword or black blade or something that was just like the sword of secrets, but cost 1/2 as much and you had to take that leadership test that people always forgot about.
In the most recent Dark Angel codex it was removed was equipment you could purchase (Booooooo!!!!). Under Azrael,s entry it is still listed as The Sword of Secrets, Belial wields the Sword of Silence and Sammael wields the Ravensword. They are collectively referred to now as the Heavenfall Blades
There is no Black Sword in the DA book, that is Black Templat stuff.

Right, sorry, brain-fart. Though I'd love to see the Heavenfall blades get some more use, and some better rules for Belial and Sammeals.
Belial can take Lightning claws after all, no real need for a single MC power sword.
Sammeal Wields a Plasma Cannon. Nuff said there
Azreals is of course, very useful, having a sword as powerful as the Emperor's Champion. He's probably my favorite hero, though the main issue is that he's in an army that only does good with Deathwing or Ravenwing at this point, meaning he can't really show off his talents very well. Not to mention being overcosted at this point. But he's still got the most badass helmet in the Imperium if it can protect him and an entire squad!
Ezekial is mostly fine in the wargear department. Master-crafted Force sword? Not bad, Master-Crafted bolt pistol...Yeah no, this thing needs a special rule or something.

Incidentally, this reminds me that I need to repaint the sword on my Belial conversion.

I'd be all over the Plasma variant units. Not sure what I think about the Chaplain focus. I still play DA but they are a very meh army right now. I would hope the Dex would have some major revisions to make them the 'c' word.

You know, to make the DA different than the BA and still keep the Chaplain spam they could make it so that the 1 wound chaplains make the squad they are attached to fire their rapid fire weapons as though they had relentless. That would make them a mobile gunline, and not be too overpowered. They could throw Army whide stubborn into the deal and call it a day.

In 6th edition rules relentless is pretty ridiculous though. it's mostly the same except you can rapid fire at 18" so that might be a bit much. I was thinking stubborn, or this new rule called "cold blooded" would be cool as a blanket LD rule. I want to see 10 man deathwing units, some relic blades, and separation of veteran units, not to mention the tons of units that the DA missed out on when the new Vanilla codex came out, and MORTIS DREADNOUGHTS!

I'm curious!
Is the idea that we will probably be getting aplastic kit with all kinds of drapey bits for our vetrans so we can decide if we want to turn them into hooded DA, BT or maybe even smurfs?
Or do you think they will keep it up with the conversion kit style model for these armies and potentially have finecasts of both monkish marine types?
I'd be down for a couple kits, but I'd much rather plastic bits for the wonderful mix and match!

I doubt DA wise they'll make a new power armored robed set since they already have 2 of them
However I wonder if they'll ever bring back their old command squad. Why did it get discontinued again?

To be fair:
The "power armored robed sets" aren't.
The Company Veterans box is a Dark Angels Chapter upgrade frame with the "specialist" frame from the Command Squad.
The actual Chapter upgrade frame isn't really a big deal either, at least in my opinion. It's a tad incoherent as it also includes parts for a Terminator on the sprue.
I could very well see them doing what they did with the Blood Angels and Space Wolves where they actually sell a specific unit with excess bits.
However I wonder if they'll ever bring back their old command squad. Why did it get discontinued again?

Probably because it was just two different things (the Dark Angels Upgrade frame and a Command Squad set) "boxed" together.

Because like the 3 pack of Tau piranhas was a splash release ( as well as the Dark angel battle box)

I don't think anyone would ever pick low power considering twin-linked plasma would get hot so infrequently (kind of odd when you think about it like that). Because you would always get to re-roll the initial '1' which is unlikely to come up the same twice in a row. Gets hot and twin-linked don't play well together; it implies that adding more barrels to things in the 40k-verse makes them less prone to dangerous malfunction.

I will poke you, Alpharius and it will hurt!
But really. I like my robed Astartes. I don't see why it's a big deal. If the generic Astartes can wear capes over their armor, they can certainly wear robes!
I do think however that they need to kind of "weather" the robes a bit more. Unless that's some kind of space age superfabric with a built-in refractor field for each thread there's going to be tears and holes.

That was a joke!
But seriously:
Looking at the Hexwraiths/Black Knights, the Cairn Wraiths and Tomb Banshees...
I think they could manage it. I hope they don't though, as I have enough of the current models to make a gorgeous foot-slogging force...
I'll take robed Terminators though. With relic blades and stormshields!

I'd actually like to see the robes more open in the front; I don't mind the idea of robed power armor, but full monk robes over power armor seems a tad much. Especially when you consider they've cut holes in the back for the power generators.

As far as the Plasma Predator rumor/wish, I could see them making a Predator version of the LR Executioner with Turret Mounted Executioner Cannon and Plasma Cannon side sponsons. It could even be worth the same price, sacrificing high armour from higher BS.
As far a s S6 AP2 shots from Plasma, that's too advanced for the Imperium. We don't need that Xenos tech anyway.

I agree, its too advanced for the imperium in its current state... but was it in 30k? maybe the masters of achient tech ( DA) still have some kicking round, remember the relictors a little known off shoot of the DA
geneseed sort of worshiped achient relics and items of great power (look where it landed them lol) and they are obsesed with secrecy too.
I would also like to see more of the win at all costs attitude the DA have could be brought back into the game, and the mastery of strategy they are suposed to have (Azrael strat rating of 4) so why not an advantage to steal the iniative OR redeploy D3 units before game starts, i like the idea of plopping down 3 DW units then being able to pop them back into reserve for DS before game begins
