I hope it's a joke too. If not, who cares, Aduro doesn't know what he is talking about. If ya ask me, sounds like jealousy haha
Nice work so far man, I really like how everything is looking. Great tanks, great units, the termie is coming along nice. I wait eagerly for the next pic!

Either way, it is in rather poor taste.
Here at Dakka, the Painting and Modeling Forums are pretty much a 'no-go' zone for that kind of stuff.
Especially when you look at the body of work in this thread, which, quite frankly, is amazing.
I'll give Aduro the benefit of the doubt and go from there.

"Your army puts mine to shame. I demand you knock it off."
Yeah, just me being my usual stupid self. I generally only give people a hard time when their stuff is INCREDIBLY good, where people should have no doubt that I'm just trying to live up to my signature. At least this time somebody noticed it

I don't know what people are talking about with the Dreadnought. It looks as un-Ultramarine as it can get. I whole heartedly approve.

I assumed he was being sarcastic. But I feel really fuzzy inside so many people rushed whole heartedly to my defence.
I really feel like a member of this community. People's comments here are what inspires me to keep painting. Without your posts and your support, I'd probably only have half as much painted as I do.
You are all my muse.
Also, a notice. I'll be going on vacation to Australia from Dec 9th to Jan 4th, so I won't be getting any hobby done over that period, but when I come back I'll be pretty desperate for some hobby so will likely crank out some more models at record pace to get everything finished.
And as for the dreadnaught looking a bit Ultramariney, I dont really agree much but you have noticed I use a lot of Ultramarine models with their U's filed off in my army, as I cam going to that classical Roman/Greek feel. So I feel it will fit in nicely with that, espcially when it is painted red. I intend to challenge myself and paint every gold peice in NMM, instead of true metallics. I learned a lot about NMM from my Sicarius model, so we'll see what I can apply to it this time. I am also going to magnatize the arms as I bought an assault cannon/Multimelta and twin lascannon/missle launcher arm varianets for this model. I will also go back and magnatize my AoBR dreadnaught so I can use the venerable's weapons on him, too.
I intend in the future to do an Ironclad, too. To complete my Dreadnaught set. I intend to eventually paint 4 (for a Master of the Forge list I want to try). Which will be 2 Vens, 2 Normal and 2 ironclads.
Currently my paint order is set up like this.
Terminator Sgt.
3 Tactical Marines.
Venerable Dreadnaught + Venerable Drop Pod
3 tactical Marines.
Vulkann Hestann.
Land Raider.
And my brother is giving me his Eldar Army (about 3,500 points worth). So I am looking foward to painting up some unique colours with that. I'll start with an autorach sometime when I feel inspired.
So please keep your eyes open for updates!

I don't like the idea of using a Powerfist Flamer thing on a "counts as" Vulkan. The fiery fist is supposed to be a supreme relic of power that belongs to them, and duplicating it seems wrong to me. Unless you're not using that as a "counts as" and it's actually Vulkan himself, then rock on.

Amazing work overall, and I love the Vulkan conversion! The cloak and feathers are very, very well done and the pose is fantastic. And as someone who has many Dreads sitting around, can wait to see your eventual Master of the Forge Dread army!

He'll be a Blood raven 'Seeker of Forgotten Artefacts", basically counts as Hestann.
The idea being that the Blood ravens, who value hidden knowledge and forbidden lore greatly, collect unique and rare items. So he'll have collected a similiar item. And when he goes to war with his chapter, he'll allow them to use the hidden and rare artefacts in his keep.
And yes, the feathers are meant to confer the 3+ invun and be the 'mantle'

GW itself has said that we are living in the Blessed Age of Counts As for Special Characters, so I feel it works just fine.
WYSIWYG is satisfied, there can be no doubt as to who you're facing and what he's armed with...
I say... Rock on!

I have no problem with counts as, got plenty of that myself, and it is indeed ace work that looks rather swank, I just prefer the idea of Vulkan's GEAR being unique. At one time I was considering Vulkan Marines and my ideas at the time were leaning twoards a terminator with flamer, storm shield and relic blade. My complaint is just that for a guy who's "not Vulkan" he looks too much like Vulkan.

Alright alright, lets settle down, we don't need this thread to get closed because things are starting to escalate a bit. Lets all voice our opinions in a very well mannered way, I would not want Roleplayer's WIP to get shut down, many enjoy his stylish products, including myself.

The bird is from a Fantasy Empire kit, from the plastic General box. Used it myself on one of my Grey Knights. The Fantasy Giant also comes with a different crow and a vulture.

Aduro is welcome to his opinion in not liking the fist.
I however do like it, and want my Vulkann counts as to be easily seen as Vulcan to anyone on the tabletop, but to also be distinctly 'Blood Ravens'
I'm sure Aduro wouldn't refuse to play against it or anything. We're all welcome to our particular artistic opinions.

If I refused to play anyone who's models didn't stack up to my artistic standards then I wouldn't have anyone to play against....
Oh, and Roleplayer, you need to do a conversion fig to match your Avatar. I love that picture, and even have it in my Wallpaper rotation. I'd do it for my Marines if I wasn't busy mobilizing a growing Daemonic force for a local Planetary Empires campaign.

I'll start it in early Janurary, after christmas.
Now,
Last update before I off to Australia.
See you all in Janurary!
Body done, arms not finished yet. The pole is on an angle cause I wanted it to be like, the force of the wind is pulling the pole to the side, because its catching the wind like a sail, but maybe I'll jus straighten it when I get back. Thoughts?

The only thing really Ultramarine-ish besides the 'U's to me, are the laurels and the Nid trophies/icons. Which is pretty generic since Nids are pretty hated by marines, and Laurels is a form of iconography used everywhere through out the Imperium.
I think that Roleplayer has the skills to pull it off.
