Wow those Celestines are fantastic. Great choice on the bits. That battle cannon quad set looks amazing too. Great work.

This being my first post and all (woo hoo), the Pimp My Sorcerer is pretty badass. And find that super heavy :-P that thing is gonna be awesome when it's done. I also like the inspiration for your Celestine, definitely going to be reading up more on that on wikipedia :-P

Thanks MrTau!

Little bit more progress, but more importantly, I got myself a tripod! Woohoo. I'll let the pics do the talking.

Next is to get into some real putty work. Adding some more cloth, ribbons, etc, a kneepad, flames to the torch, and possibly the neck and hair. I'm not sure about those last ones there as I'm also considering leaving the head off to paint separately.

I've also got chains to add liberally. And I'll at least try mocking up some a few repentia as tenders. That might end up looking a bit too busy though.

That's one heck of a pose! I think it also capture a bit of the feel of the GW Celestine as well. Nice work! A little CC now. I'm not really feeling the heads on the spear. Two reasons: 1) I don't think they're really Celestine's style (not as trophies, anyway) and 2) with that giant blade and crossguard, I don't think that many heads would make it down to the shaft like with a normal spear. My 2 cents...

Good luck on the GSing. That's when the model really comes together! About the chains and repentia, it shouldn't be too hard to mock up and take a look see. Check it out both ways and then decide (or let the Dakkites decide )

Keep up the great work!

Rawson- Appreciate the feedback, thanks! I totally understand what you're saying about the skulls, and agree. They've been removed, but to keep things interesting I think I'll drape the haft in chains and/or more cloth.

I've taken a bit of a break from Celestine for the moment to work on something I had laying around...a Forge World repressor kit! It was my first time really heavily working with resin, and it ended up being a lot easier than I'd expected. There was a bit of warping on about half of the parts, but that was pretty easy to fix. The only serious miscast was on the flamer, which had some definite alignment issues. The two sides of the back half were almost an eighth of an inch offset from one another. Luckily, all the planes were flat so it was a really simple fix to just trim the high side down to match the low one.

Other than that, I tried to magnetize everything as I've done with most of the rhino-chassis vehicles I've build. I doubt, given the number I have, I'll ever really need to switch them around, but I like to have the option to just in case. I think it's definitely a good thing to do with the big optional things too, like the dozer blade.

So here're the pics!

It still needs a bit of GS cleanup, mostly around the dozer magnets, and on the front edge of the front plate, as I got a bit overzealous with the trimming there. I'll try to throw that in when I work on some of Celestine's GSing. And now I only have 2 more Repressors to go! And two more Exorcists. And a ton of troops. And....painting just about all of it.

Huzzah!

Weee, got pretty much everything pinned at this point, and everything holds together on its own so far. Still need to add more detail with GS, a few more bitz, and liberal use of chains. I think I'm going to try mocking up the mini with some Repentia accompanying her on the base too.

I think that base would get a bit crowded with some Repentia down there, mate. This is turning out to be a beautiful piece, and a great base will really top it off! Also, what is the legal base size for Celestine? I'm pretty sure the Painting/Modeling Compitition requires a legal base...

Keep up the good work!

Thanks! Legal base size is 40mm, which is what she's on. The wavy strands of fabric overlap it a bit.

As far as repentia go, I was original planning on using them like the original harbinger of menoth model here:

They're significantly taller though, and I think I definitely wouldn't go with three. But NOT using them would be a lot easier. Could still do some fun stuff with the base too I think. I'll still mock it up and see how it looks.

And update!

I have finished the modelling phase of Saint Bellanya, my Celestine conversion.

And all the different angles. Zoom in on the pics! They're pretty high quality.

Aaaaaaaand I just realized that the cloth coming off her left hip came unattached during photography. Crap. That'll be glued down after painting, anyway. And on that note, painting and fluff dump to come! Still debating the paint scheme a bit too. The rest of my army is black armor with some bone pieces, with gold detailing. I'm thinking on this I might go with mostly bone armor and black cloth. That still leaves the wings and hair that I'm not totally sure of.

Haha, thanks. I've been really impressed with your work for a while now, so I'll take that as really high praise. The head itself is a Hasslefree head, the hair I sculpted out of ProCreate, and the helmet is actually made from two of the SoB plastic helmets from the Immolator kits. I cut the facemask off of both, keeping the mask nice from one and the rest of the helmet on the other, then did a ton of hollowing out. The goal was to make it look like it had been tilted open, but either way I think it worked out okay. Glad to hear it's getting the Roman Goddess vibe across, too!

More angles incoming, just loaded these up for a last-second contest entry that...may have been too late.

Still, very very pleased with how most of it turned out. Except the face. Kinda screwed up good portions of that. Thanks to pirmas407 for the suggestion on how to do the feathers. I think it worked out really well.

Fantastic final product, Zefig! All of that hard modeling work has certainly paid off! I love the subtle OSL on the left side

Second that, really unique pattern that reminds me of more predatory birds, which fits well with the deliverer of the Emperor's Judgement

Thanks! I never did find out unfortunately. I even found the same booth at this year's GenCon and asked, but nobody there even remembered having them. It could be a mystery lost to the ages.

Thanks man! For the OSL, I noticed in this view that it fades off before it should over the torch, so I'm going to try to go back and re-spray a bit to even it up a bit. As to the wings, that's about what I was thinking, haha.

Hey, finally actually had my first battle with the new codex. Small 1000 pt deal against a Crowe-Purifier GK list. It was surprisingly evenly matched.

Celestine--------------------------------------Crowe
MeltaDominions/MM immo---------------3x Purifiers/HB Razorbacks
Melta/MM Sisters in rhino----/
Flamer/HF Sisters in rhino-/
2x Exorcist-------------------------------------2x Psyflemen

The game was cut short due to the store closing, but we ended up tying in Annihilation, 3 kp each. I lost celestine in the final round of shooting so she couldn't come back, the dominions, and a rhino, while he lost crowe, a razorback, and a purifier squad. I certainly learned a decent amount, and made some crucial mistakes that I recognized soon after I made them. In any case, it was a fun game with a cool opponent, and I'll certainly be trying to get some more games in. Unfortunately, during the game Celestine's head snapped off. I just reglued it, so things should be okay. It's turning out to be a pretty finicky model, but she definitely served her purpose of drawing a huge amount of fire and surviving most of it. Celestine was responsible for 2 of the 3 KP on her own too, so I'm looking forward to using her again.

Whipped up a quick symbol for the army, in powerpoint of all things. Might work on a nicer version in Pro/E and Photoshop. Hmm. Actually, and with Pro/E, then I could print out some with Shapeways to add to vehicles and whatnot. I like that idea. I'm interested to hear your takes on it though. I think I'll be going with Order of the Sable Heart for the army. I like the sound of it.

Very cool stuff! I'm pretty eager to see any more progress on the "space tank".

Tell me, how'd you get the flecked stars on the hull of that tank? I can think of one way: let the paint soak out onto the tip of the airbrush then spray! But I doubt that's how you did it, lol.

Thanks Johnny! That's actually really close to how I did it, haha. Good eye. The exact technique I picked up after watching some youtube tutorials on space scenes. What I did was kink the air tube to the brush so no air could get through, THEN let a bit of paint soak out on to the tip while opening up the airbrush itself to full airflow. Unkink the hose, a bunch of air suddenly rushes through at full pressure, and it creates the big spray pattern. I think having the pressure up at higher PSI than normal for airbrushing helps too. Might have been up around 30-40 psi at that point, before I figured out that regular coats come out a lot better at much lower pressures. Another technique with similar results that I read about a long time ago in a "how to draw comic books" book I had that doesn't require an airbrush is to take a long-bristled, flat-ended brush, dip it in white paint, then brush your finger across the tips of the bristles so when they fly forwards again they spray droplets on to the paper/canvas/mini/what-have-you. I think it was something like that anyway. It's been quite a while since I've read it.
