Hey guys! guess what? This week-end something incredible happened: I had some free time to work on both the TS rhino and the shrine! These days free time is more rare than plastic squats on sprue

I've done quite a lot on the shrine as you'll see it here:

I still have to add some more details on the walls but I think I'm on a good track.

I've also made more side panels for the rhino:

Here's how they look on the rhino:

And a shot of the whole rhino (Special thanks to Tipios for the gunner )

So, any advice or opinion?

I have no merit, it's a press molded GS replica of both halves of the back of Egrimm van Horstmann, the old WHFB champion on chaos dragon. I couldn't cut the original metal model so I asked my friend Instant Mold some help

By the way, I need an opinion on mixing or not the side panels. Should I go for 1 panel with a tzeentch icon and 1 with the chaos star heraldry I've just made or should I use two similar panels on a same rhino?

Awesome stuff! I love instant mold, hehehe. The shrine's turning out fantastic!

One small issue you might want to consider though - the large cross icons on the Rhino side doors make it look like those doors wouldn't be able to open, as the bottom of the crosses would get in the way and prevent the door from swinging down on those bottom hinges.

As for mixing and matching - I'd say go for one tzeentch icon and one chaos star on each Rhino, so the Rhinos are consistent. But that might just be my OCD talking, hehe.

Liking the moulds of the Helbrass standard. I'd go for one each of the crosses on each rhino. The Shrine is looking great as well.

Yep! You dip it in hot water, wait 20 to 30 sec until it takes the the consistency of chewing gum, then you press it against the stuff you want to make a mold of, wait again for a few minutes until it cools and take its former consistency, anf finally fill it with GS.

Skits wrote:Awesome stuff! I love instant mold, hehehe. The shrine's turning out fantastic!

Thank you Skits. Instant mold is really great to get some details to add to your conversions.

you're right. I'll have to carve a space beneath the door to allow the door to open. thank you for pointing it

That's one for the mix

That's another one for the mixing if I get you correctly

Anyone else gets an opinion?

Thank you guys!

Skalk, you should definitely try to grab some instamold, it's truly awesome.

I've been cutting some almost straight plasticard stripes to work on the second rhino (and it was a painful time - no need to mention all the swearing) and I think I should try to sart working on it soon.

I'm progressively moving my modelling stuff to my parent's place where I'll stay with my family until my appartment is sold. While most of it will remain in the boxes until I find a new home, I think I should be able to make some significant progress on my various projects whithin the next couple of weeks.

Now guys I need an opinion on the development of my TS army.
I have 10 termies, a DP, Arhiman, more sorcerors than I'd ever use, 1 dread, 3 regular squads of rubric marines (and 3 more unassembled), 2 rhinos and a count as defiler (the Necroshpyx/soulgrinder conversion I'v made last year). I also have a looooot of pink horrors (35 iirc). What should I add to my army? another defiler? moar rhinos? a Land raider? a dreadclaw? a vindicator? a pony?

I need the wise advice of people who play more often than me (that's most of you guys)

Thanks Yggs!

I've found a great tuto to build a dreadclaw. I'll certainly give it a try this autumn.

I'm moving to Amiens (back home) whithin à fortnight, but I'm still planning to go to the Games Day (if I finally receive the ticket I've ordered).
I'd be glad to meet you there, I still have last year's model for you, and challenging you for the scrap demon should be fun!

Bitz shops are your friends (especially if you're only interested in one variant of a plastic kit )

Now it's time for an update!

The move gets closer (next week), I've quitted my job last saturday, and begin the new one next week, so I'm happy to be unemployed for a week

To celebrate my resignation I went to my LGS and bought this:

I unboxed it with one hand (the other holding a cup of champagne) and started to see what kind of conversions I could do. Here's the first one:

I think this Helbrute head is going to be seen quite often during the next months .

That was Saturday...Sunday was full of win too!
I went to an attic sale, with no real expectations because usualy the few models you can find (if you can find models) are in such a poor condition and overpriced that I generally don't even bother asking for the price.
However, there are exceptions.
for someting like 50 euros I got a GW transport case, a Games day limited edition model (the demon slayer dwarf) the whole content of the skull pass box set unpainted, tyranids, a dark elves army, a CSM rhino and more...

The kid (he was about 13) who sold these models had not even primed them and had a wide variety of expensive stuff. His assembling skills were forgivable for a kid, but it was obvious that he didn't care to do a good job with his stuff:

The reversed arms are a regular pattern
Anyway the rhino was dismembered and I started to work on it as an addition to my TS army.

So, for the last two days, I've cut plasticard stripes, glued it, drilled holes and rivetted.

I've also made two more side doors and two more rear doors:

I'll add some more heraldry on the rhino sides before priming the three rhinos and starting to paint them.

Now guys here's something I'd like to show you. During all my 7 years of exile in Paris I've acquired a lot of stuff in expectation of the days I could get a proper gaming room. Now this time is near I'll soon give this little marvel all the attention it deserves. Forge World has released urban war gaming tiles? Pff! Mine is bigger!

Should I add that I also own an Imperial sector box set?
Of course it's only 1m square, but I could probably enlarge it. Right now it's perfect for small games, and I can't wait to use my DV armies on it!

Cheers!

@graven: what buildings do you use on your club table?

@Biohazard: Thanks! The oblits heads are so lame, probably the worst GW ever produced. The helbrute head however is full of possibilities. The table is one of those that were used in GW stores as 40k gaming table. It's a lucky ebay find.

Here's the last progress on the com shrine: Candles!

It's the last gothic element I'll add to the interior of the shrine.

What do you think?

The gothic shrine looks really good, Joe. The addition of the candles is a very nice touch and sweet score at the yard sale.

Couldn't agree with you more about the oblits. GW's biggest fail in my opinion. Can't believe they didn't redo the shooty ones and I'm not at all impressed by the CC ones.

Your stuff, on the other hand, continues to impress. Keep up the good work!

Love the shrine, it's a great job. How did you do the candles? We have some fw buildings, some urban war, aegis lines, and a fair bit of homemade city fight (for Infinty, Munda etc). Advantage of beings part of a large regular club! I'm very fortunate in that regard.

Awesome score on those miniatures! One man's failure is another man's opportunity. I love getting 'rescue' projects from eBay. Yeah, sometimes they are quite a challenge, but when you play Plague Marines, gunked up glue and backwards parts are just extra features!

Hi guys! Sorry for the late reply, but the last two weeks have been pretty intense and so are going to be the next ones.
Thank you all for your comments, it's very encouraging!

@Moltar: The new CC oblits seem even worse to me than the old ones, they look...toonish.

@grave: I wish every club I've been part of had decent buildings, but it has not been the case often (sadly some people seem to think that because it doesn't belong to them, club terrain doesn't need to be cared for).

@monkeytroll: Dark elves Cauldron of Blood, not Hurricanum (otherwise you've go it)

@Skalk: I agree with GirrafeX! You're right on the rescue projects, it's probably a good quarter of my collection, and it's the best way to find awesome models for cheap.

I don't have much pics but I have started to paint the rhinos! The top hatches, gunners and the missile launcher are nearly done, the sides are on a good way, and I'll soon start the interior.
I'll post some new pics of the rhinos soon.

Now something completely different: I' finally got my Games Day ticket (after one month of struggle with GW mail order )
I expect to meet Yggs there and to bring back as many awesome pics from the Golden demon entries as possible!

Cheers!

Then good sir, allow me to give you the following answer: the originals were made of metal or plastic and would have been irremediately deformed by the blade when I'd split them (even the tzeentch icon from the lord of change staff was too thick and had to be reworked). The GS replicas are offering far more opportunities and flexibility. Should I add that all this is done for my exclusive and personnal use?
