No doubt at all.
The simplest fix to the LS Storm is to count as a dedicated transport, and its simply easier to get away with that difference if the count as elites as opposed troops. I'm not saying they have to, just that its easier. In the same vein, couldn't scouts simply count as a fast attack choice... say 5 models and the speeder bought as a single unit with the option of trading the speeder for another 5 models?-Similar to assault marines dropping jump packs for a transport.
Personally? I'd rather not have the LSS as a "requirement". It hasn't worked so well for Pathfinders, and unless they do something really unique with the LSS to make it justifiable for having the price rolled into the Scout unit's cost.
Being Elites in the previous book seemed to be done more to prevent the over crowding of offering as many different Troop choices and emphasizing that choice between the three possibilities.
See, I'd believe this...if there wasn't an "unlock" required to get those different Troop choices.

You could say the same if the GK had killed the SoB for knowing about their existance, or because in a witch hunt one of there members had become tainted. It was more the reason for the killing than the killing itself.
As long as we don't get something like "Lion El Johnson's body may be in the rock half dead but his soul is in the warp chaseing down the fallen and sometimes he comes and helps the DA when they fight and he is Cypher and thats why he keeps being seen with the fallen because he is guiding them to be killed" or some such rubbish.

Can't we pretty much be certain that as it's in the starter box, DA are going to be a pretty all round army with lots of choices to entice new players to buy lots of models?

I am crossing my fingers for Dark Angels next, not only that, I am crossing my fingers it is written by Ward.
Despite all the Ward hate, it means that Dark Angels will actually get a good codex. I really enjoy Ravenwing and the 30 bikes I have, need something to do...

Now that would be the most frightening thing in existence, a group of quiet chaplains walking your way with blades of torture, ready to cut you apart to force you to repent, regardless of what type of xenos you are.
They will put the fear of angels into even ork kind!

20 chaplains in a storm eagle, in a single unit. This sounds terrifying to the enemies of mankind!

Given that 5th was released on July 12th 2008 and AOBR was not until the 6th September 2008 its not inconcivable that we could have something like:
Codex release in May ( CSM or DA)
6th Ed June & July
Codex in August ( CSM or DA)
Box set September
With a big box release in Oct, hobbits and LotR in Nov in line with the film and December for the crimbo stuff.
I can't see there being another WHFB release as there have been two already, and three WHFB in the 25th year of 40k with 6th ed also dropping this year seems unlikely. And I can't see that they would bring out the box set when one of the forces would have an out of date codex... The upset it would cause having someone going and buying the box set and two codexs only to find one of them is out of date the next month would just be crazy. The box set is, after all, to bring new players in.

While AOBR was in September, the codex for marines was released afterwards in October. That seems more likely.
I don't think we've ever had any sort of codex release in August. It's kind of a dead month traditionally. This year some sort of WHFB wave makes sense with all the focus on 40k in previous and following months (as well as Hobbit in November which is often a WHFB month).

As a DA player, I would love to see them having a new book. However, a friend told me that either High Elves or Skaven do not get a new book despite making to the starter set.
That would sucks.

True, it may well be after the box set, but that would be at the same time as the bloodbowl(??) box set release. To be honest we are guessing, and i'm not a beleaver on baising it on past form.

The timing makes me think that they will fold the Dark Angels back into the regular Marine codex. Add the fact that they are the paint set demo now as well. I hope it does not work out this way, but I see it as a possability.

I doubt there will be a Bloodbowl box set this year. We had Space Hulk in 2009, Fantasy Starter Box in 2010, Dreadfleet in 2011. So I'm guessing we'll see the 40k Starter Box in 2012 and a specialist game box in 2013.

Why does the timing make you think that? I thought based on comments people reported GW made it pretty clear they believe the current SM codex is good enough to let stand into this next edition.
My theory why GW is putting DA at the front of the new edition: First the current SM Codex is so full with over 40 different units and characters it is so drastically oversized with regard to all other codices to update it this soon, would only further accentuate that divide... they want to let other books catch up a bit... and they may simply not have a good idea of how to expand upon the basic codex, yet. Second, people point it out often enough that DA are very similar to vanilla marines; the simplicity the vanilla marines have tha makes them excellent for introducing people to the game is equally applicable with DA. Further DA with fearless simplify dealing with those aspects of the rules for introductory purposes. DA present two clear avenues for a player to create straight forward armies as opposed to the more greatly mixed and match form the vanilla SM codex presents.

I disagree, they've always had their own codex (angels of death excepted but they did have their own half of the book).

Let's remember that GW doesn't make any more money by condesing things. Too many people have suggested this before for every other specialized Space Marine army. Can we finally agree this is not happening?

No, because for the last two editions out of 6 editions had the vanilla dex therefor it is a pattern and a fact, like the PA/non PA and Xeno/imperium pattern that people claim is a fact.
Apparently there is a world shortage of vanilla this year so maybe thats why they have gone for DA

Last two dex's? They had a vanilla dex in third edition too, though the 2nd was just called ultramarines, but the variants still used the stuff in it.

Just because the DA isn't the vanilla dex and just because the vanilla dex isn't the first codex, doesn't mean the edition won't have a vanilla dex. GW's simply said they believe the vanilla dex can stand on its own, into this edition. That is to say it can wait, not that it won't happen.
