Is the grot head significantly bigger than all of the GW ones? Cause some of those are huge from memory - may just be a case of finding the appropriately sized grot body to go with it. Not that I'm seeing anything wrong with the one you have chosen. Paint it and see! (It's not like a single non character grot is going to stand out in your army...)

Panic: thanks!

Joske De Veteraan: a few times; ther's some ;small batreps a few pages back!

monkeytroll: you're probably right, the metal really emphasises (sp?) the size difference - and the fact that his mouth is wide open doens't really help

MeatShield: that's a nice mental image .

Commissar Agro: you'r eprobably right. I'm going to paint this one and see how it turns out.

Arakasi: It's a bit bigger (2-3 mm), but that's plenty on a 28 mm figure... Not to mention GW already has heroic scale heads, so yeah, it's big I'm definitley going to paint it, since I have 9 moreof these heads 10 grot might stand out a tad...

moonshine: I agree I need the variety, but I still want it to look good.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out once painted, thanks for the encouragement and the advice!

As a parting gift: here's a vintage grot. With purple shades, sinc eh's so old he remembers Woodstock

Disclamier: pic was taken with flsh, which messes stuff up. Not to mention that seeing your mini 5 times bigger shows every single flaw... Still a nice mini though!

I like the new heads you could mass them up as an elite grot storm squad.....They don't look that out of scale to me.

The MAS head does look a tad large now, but I'm confident a coat of paint will help blend the scale together.

If all else fails, try it on one of the old multi-part night gobbos, those bodies were just a tad larger than the current plastic gretchin.

The army is really coming together, looks great!

moonshine: Thanks! Drilling out an eye and maybe giving him an eyepatch or a bionic eye sounds like a plan, thanks for the idea!

monkeytroll: Thanks!

Llamahead: good idea, but then i'd need rules or a counts-as for them. not to mention the main ide ais to ge tmore variety in my regular grots. I will be using a few for my vehicles though - size will be les sof an issue then anyway.

neil101: Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you too!

EagleArk: Right back at you!

Teek: As soon as temperatures rise above freezing point I'll undercoat the little bugger and see how he looks with some paint on. I've got a bunch of plastic goblins still lying around and they're a tad bigger indeed, so using those is always an option. thanks for the suggestion! Glad you like the army, means a lot coming from one of the greenskin convertin' bosses!

Not sure if it's the flash/auto correction, but the head above the shades looks to be a different tone to the rest. Other than that, looking gooood

After lurking through your entire thread over the weekend, i am finally qualified to say: This is one of the coolest armies I've seen. The fact that it is playable is thick yummy icing on a perfect cake.

monkeytroll: yes, you should. That's the problem with the pics, really, if you hold the model and turn it around, it's pretty clear.

Big Mek Dattrukk: Wow, thanks! . And if it isn't playable, it isn't an army IMO

So, two more grots finished, bringing me up to a grand total of 39... lol Ah well, only 38 to go for my standard 1750 list

I'm also working on a deffkopta and a new kan, I'll try and put up some WIP pics somewhere this week!

Great looking stuff. I dig the shades.

I think the head will be fine. The problem is that he's got a helmet on with some kinda side straps or guards, and that makes it look alot bigger than the head part itself is.

So, festivities over. Let's hope I can get some work done on the serious business now: grots

For piccies today, I've got a warbuggy for you guys. it had been sitting on my shelf of shame for a while because of an undercoating accident, but today I decided to fix it up since I really liked the model. I hope you'll agree he turned out more or less OK:

I like how the wheels turned out, I might revisit some of my older vehicles and do something similar with them. I'm not tha tkeen one the orange job on this one however. Since the undercoat got messed up, my regular highlight-wash-highlight didn't really pick up the details as it should. Thank god for weathering to cover up some of the mess-ups So, wat are you guys' thoughts on this one? keep him or build a new one?

I'd have thought the answer was obvious CK.

You keep this one....

and build another one.

I like it, especially from the side where you can see the disparity between the vehicle and the tiny grot driver.

Is that 'maniak' on the number plate? Can't get a clear view of it.

I agree with monkeytroll Is there a gunner to go with that? It looks a bit empty behind the driver... I'm not looking forward to bending plasticard tube - there seems to be a fine line between Orky and wonky - hope my first attempt is at least this good...

Scrazza: Thanks! And yeah, I nicked your name. that's what you get with grots Glad you like the background as well!

Gitsplitta: Yep, totally forgot to do grafifti on this one, guess it's because I didn't do in on the halftrack either. I'm going to give them both some graffiti, thanks for pointing that out!

monkeytroll: lol, guess you're right The number plate says 'Mad Max' as a nod to the movie (since it was an inspiration for the vehicles), but I like maniak as well. The Dark future anthologies from GW had a gang called the Maniax (their boss was called the Grand Exalted Bullmoose ), so I think I'll add that to my next license plate as a bit of a tribute. Another one will be built as soon as my order from maelstrom arrives, but they've been on the slow side recently - probably with the holidays and everything.

Arakasi: Guess you're right as well . I intended to add the grot with the hammer from the stompa set, but totally forgot a bout him... I'll paint him up and add him - as soon as I can find him! For the plasticard tube, I've head about filling them with sand or coat hanger wire to make them keep their shape. Page 3 or 4 of the threadhas some good advice about avoiding crimping when bending plastic tubing. And this wasn't my first attempt, I wasted about a foot of tubing before I got it right the first time... Be prepared for a certain amount of frustration

What, no words of encouragement when it comes ot finishing the buggies? :( Good thing, since modeller's ADD kicked in and I decided to bust up a truck anyway instead of finishing them . I wasn't happy with the third buggy I'd made, and I figured a truck would be a nice start because of the engine and the big wheels, and from there on it's just finding good missiles, really . So, going with monkeytroll and Arakasi, here's a few pics showing how I got started.

I started off by cutting off the rear bit of the the truck where the last set of wheels attaches:

I could've kept both the rear wheels for a more 'monster-truck' look, but I like the smaller front wheels, it makes it look a bit faster.

After that, it's adding the engine and some floor plates to get a basic 'feel' of the mini, and to see how balanced it is after I cut off about a third of the model:

I think it looks stubby but fast, just the look I was going for! Cutting off the rear bit doesn't make the modle look unbalanced; a huge engine is OK in my book for grots, so now it was figuring out where to put the missile gunner. Now, I could just've added him in the cupola, but where's the fun in that? After some contemplation, I decided I wanted at least four grots on this one: a driver, a spotter, a loader, and a missile gunner in some kind of turret. The gunner's turret is too good a bit to pass on though, so I added some railing to the rear, as well as an assymetric floorplate with some railings:

And guess what fits on nicely?

Yep, the gunner's turret. In this pic, you also see the remains of the chair after I cut out the ork. I'll be greenstuffing in a seat, and the adding a driver. I just need to figure out how to attach the control panel and still make everything paintable.... Since the trukk only comes with one seat, the spotter will be getting a kustom made one.

To finish off, here's a view of the rear, showing off the assymetric body and the rollcage-attachment for the turret.

So, thoughts? - besides the fact that I need to clean off some mould lines
