A little bit of Armageddon Dust "basing" paint dryrbushed over the tracks and surrounding chasis works well for creating a mud effect. Nice and thick without being overpowering. Might be a little too light in colour for wet mud but would work well as mud that dried over time.

It's actually the only damn thing I use the stuff for.

Actually I've got a pretty decent mud system worked out that I developed for my grot tanks using weathering powders and airbrushing medium.

These images show it pretty well:

I can get both dry and wet mud (old and fresh) pretty easily & I like the overall effect.

Got some work done on the inner track rollers and the metal on the other side. Might not have much time to paint this week but I'll do what I can.

When I have something picture-worthy I'll post it.

Been a while since I've seen your painting blog, but it brings me to tears to gaze upon it once more, Gitsplitta. I hope I can paint as well as you in my future endeavors!

Why thank you Orminah! Very generous of you to say so. There's nothing magic about my painting... just a willingness to try anything and a lot of time and determination. Unlike many on dakka, I'm most certainly NOT an artist. More of a craftsmen than anything else.

LeadLegion wrote:Yup, you certainly do Gitspltta. No Armageddon Dust for you

Not yet anyway!

Thanks vent. Lot's of practice I guess... it's such a stupid simple tool to use that anyone can look like a pro with a little effort.

God help me... I'm now now the father of a newly minted teenager. With a brand-new (well... used actually) drum set in the basement.

You know... being 50 in a few days in no big deal. Realizing that the little boy I carried in my arms for so may years is now a teenager is MUCH harder to take.

Well, I must admit that I think the modern LR is a far superior model to the old one... but this goes with my army so I'll make the best out of it!

Gits, your blog serves as an inspiration of madness... I just went back through like 5 P&M Summaries looking for this guy:

Just so I could figure out how to do stained glass for my Basilica Administratum... If they find my gibbering remains, I blame you

What page is that on?

Stained glass is easy... comedy is hard.

You might talk with Briancj, he did some stained glass for his fortress for last year's Adepticon that just kicked butt.

Around page 129, the post-AdeptiCon Master of the Forge is in the 4th P&M Summary (pg. 135) and the work takes place somewhere on like March 29th.

Hey Ovion, sorry... didn't see your original question.

If you know of some place that carries decal supplies... model railroading or serious military model building... try there. I'm not sure if Microscale products are available in the UK, but if you check with the above hobbies you'll find out soon enough. Their decal products are pretty much the standard here in the U.S.

Here's the company's web site: http://www.microscale.com/

The technique I used for my Fortress o' Redemption will not work, sadly. It relied on a solid surface to 'cheat' with.

HOWEVER!

1) Print stained glass you find on the internet, onto clear plastic with your color inkjet or laser printer. Avery sells the plastic sheets, make sure you buy the sheets that match your type of printer. No more difficult than printing paper, slightly less difficult than printing your own decals.

2) Buy some:

We're talking clear plastic like overhead projector plastic? I don't need something super detailed and fantastic. I'm just looking to give my Basilica Administratum a more "churchy" view, as well as give me plausible reason to have no LoS on the first floor so I can use it for Infinity as well as 40k.

I love this thread simply for the font of information it is, and I did manage to find how you did your stained glass windows, and yeah I was like, "they do look good, but I don't have a solid surface".

The LR is looking really great so far Git's it will break it up a bit when you paint the chapter symbol on the doors.....

I did wonder about sending cookies around the world but thought a few in a box wouldn't cost that much, now I wonder how many you've (Mrs Splitta) done

Ah well, it's not about the money anyway.

Spoiler:
IT'S about that fact that "my fellow Americans" are getting their asses handed to them by dakkanaughts from other countries!! Get it in gear boys... the over-seas cookie shipping fund is KILLING me!
