Three special editions revealed on their facebook website:
First up we have the Hanging Tree, all plastic, which features the Hanging Tree itself which is a little over five inches tall altogether with both Eric and Nathan hanging around after a hard day. There are also two smaller tree's, along with bodies, which can be used as alternative Hanged.
I'm the sexy guy hanging upside down, working out the kinks.
WYR2059 - Hanging Tree - $80
Next up we have Miss Terious, a female Death Marshal (obviously not long on the job!) our special edition miniature of the year. For all orders of a $100 or more placed at Gencon either at the booth or online, this miniature will be included in your order for FREE.
Last up, we have a perk miniature for our Henchmen, Santana Ortega. This miniature will be made available initially only to our hard working Henchmen, and after a bit of time, perhaps to the public by way of tournaments, prize support, etc.

Hilariously enough, I was originally turned off by the Japanese/Chinese theme, but these renders look amazing. I hope the actual models look just as good. AFAIK, we haven't seen Wyrd's plastic/resin yet.
My only disappointment is there are no Japanese/Chinese models with rifles or firearms. It seems odd.

Jumping back to page 7, SpiralingCadaver posted a couple pictures that show the transitions from art to digital sculpt to plastic. Having held the plastic models, I can say that the plastic is fantastic. Its very very similar to the hard grey plastic that GW used for their plastic Hero kits a couple years back. Its been over 2 years since I picked up any GW models, so I am not sure if they still use the same hard grey plastic.

Wyrd posted about this. apparently, they're using the same plastic that Legos are made of (i.e. sometimes painfully sharp), prepped in a different way to make them easier to paint. I'm not sure if any other minis company uses that stuff? PP's is some sort of weird resin that show mixing really strongly, GW's is relatively softer, and I don't know any other plastic lines very well.
I'm hesitant, but if Wyrd can keep that detail, I'm still happy with it.

IIRC, it's a different plastic, so it won't-- I use superglue on everything, anyways, as it doesn't leave ugly melt spots, and, if you want to change anything, you can without a lot of cutting (i.e. too strong bonds for my taste)

The old Malifaux aesthetics and the chunky Privateer Press-esque sculpts never appealed to me, but the new figures' Asian and Asian-Western theming is so much more interesting than the existing Western-er, Western theming and the move to digital sculpting and plastic is enabling a welcome shift to realistic proportions, so I'm suddenly intrigued. Very nice.

The Wyrd plastic will be ABS. This is the same plastic Mongoose used for their injection-moulded Starship Troopers figures. The Privateer Press plastic is PVC. (I don't know why Wyrd included the FUD about all PVC being squishy and low-detail but with all the marketing bs from the likes of Mantic and Trollforged maybe they felt it was traditional now? ) The FineCast resin is polyurethane.
Absolutionis wrote:Assuming assembly will be required, I wonder if the typical polystyrene plastic cement will work.
If it's just some random bottle you fished out from the bottom of the drawer then probably poorly, if at all. You'll need to use a solvent that specifically says it works on ABS, such as Tamiya ABS Cement or Plastruct Bondene.

Legendary Master of the Chapter

I recently got a sample of their puppet's war plastics, and I have to say that I was impressed. The designs were very creepy. The scupts were sharp and detailed. The plastic was as easy to work with as GW/WGF/Perry plastic, and it took to Humbrol Poly quite well. I am definitely going to pick up more Wyrd plastics this holiday season.

With the switch to 3d printing the miniatures design and coolness that made WYRD and Malifaux such a cool range is long gone... I dont like these they lack soul and they dont fit in malifaux... Bad move IMO.

I'll reserve judgment until I have one of those models in my hand. I like the design of the Rail Crew and am planning on buying at least that.
It does somewhat bother me that there are none of these new models viewable in painted form.

The CAD renders always look a bit uncanny and I think that Wyrd usually presents their models with top knotch paint, so that probably accounts for some of the disconnect. However, in terms of sculpt quality, these look really good and get away from the horribad proportions that alot of miniatures show.
I like that they have some Lure models that aren't undead or puppets. And the Hungering Darkness looks like it will be super creepy with good paint, though I understand his rules to be rather underwhelming.

Agree completely. I know there have been a couple spru pics floating around. That there hasn't been a painted model displayed yet either means the painters they have doing it aren't done yet, or they don't want people to see them. That there isn't even a painted model for the ones coming out this month makes me worry :(
Liked a lot of the original Wyrd line, but feel they were going down hill. Now that they have switch to digital will either save them or speed up their demise. Hope for the former, not the later.

Lots of high quality pics of the actual minis here, because, like a lot of people browsing this thread, I'm just plain not interested in 3d renders and such.
http://bloodofkittens.com/40kblogs/2012/09/26/malifaux-in-plastic/
Quality looks brilliant!
Some really sweet slide-core-moulded pieces on there with undercuts and detail on the sides.
Check out this steampunk robot, that is far superior casting to what either GW or PP is putting out IMO:
Alright, that's not painted, but it doesn't need to be to see how good the quality is there.
It's like one of those Japanese Gundam kits that everyone raves about because they can do coloured plastic, undercuts, insane detail, the whole works.
Big thumbs up to Wargames Factory for these, they've clearly invested a lot of money in their business where it matters.

All the plastics have looked cool so far. I'd like to see more painted examples to get an idea how they actually look. I don't like that we haven't seen "official" painted minis from Wyrd for any of the plastics yet. Well, at least not that I can remember.

The new plastics are translating really well from art to model, and have been top notch so far, and are really detailed for what basically amounts to GW plastics (same material and feel).

bbb, I don't think we'll see official painted minis, Nathan Caroland said something that they were getting complaints from both sides, those that wanted painted minis and those that didn't (so you could see the mini without painterly effects on them). So with the plastics, since they're entirely digital are just being printed on the box...

Well, that is disappointing. I was really put off when the 2nd rulebook/expansion they released didn't even have pictures of miniatures in it. And for the first rulebook I wanted to see some pictures of actual game boards with terrain and minis on it. They're doing a great job of creating a game and setting and encouraging great painting and modeling with their figures, but I really wish we'd see more pictures of models/games in progress from Wyrd itself.
