I just got mine today, and I have to say that the minis are quite good for what I expected to get, though I have not opened them yet, so that's just seeing them through the package.
I have to admit that I am thinking of just keeping the main game, and putting the Biohazard extra figures (the doubles of the base game) and the Opticamo figures I got on Ebay- probably at cost for Opticamo, and hoping to get a little more for the Biohazard figures. I woefully have to admit that I doubt I will even be able to get around to painting the minis for the base game, much less all those extras, not to mention that among all my other minis in the house, even just the 50 figures for the main game are going to pose a storage problem once they are assembled. My groaning shelves are reserved for painted minis, or parts of armies in progress.
-----------
Some of my gripes, though- I think the rulebook is pretty lacking, quality-wise. The flimsy paper cover sucks; it would have been so much better with a cardstock cover and a glued binding, like GW codexes. As it is, mine came stapled offset by about 1/8th of an inch, and the top staple was nearly ripped through the cover, right out of the box. Like I said, crappy quality.
And no wound markers for the cards. Not a problem for me, particularly, but still something lacking. I think at the start, I will be using red glass marker stones, and just tally up the wounds, instead of mark down. If that becomes cumbersome for high-wound models (not many have more than ten wounds), or when flipping cards, I will end up going the route of sleeves and dry-erase markers like for some of my other games.
Also, does anyone else see their boards warping now that they are out of the box? Also the box has such tight tolerances that it's damaging the corners of my boards already from when they are placed n the box.
----------
On the plus side:
I have to say that the rules are quite meaty for a boardgame of this type, when you combine the rulebook and the cards together. Enough that I actually have worries about whether I can get anyone to have the patience to learn them with me. I like the scenarios, though. The narrative campaign looks like a fun way to learn the games rules, as the more complex models are added in over the course of the 9 scenarios.
The Strategic scenarios are where the meat of the replay value is, though. I like how both sides get point costs, which is rare for this type of game. I'm used to games like Tyranid Attack (dumbed-down Advanced Space Crusade) and Space Hulk, where the human player might get some ways to add variety to his forces, but the "alien" player is stuck with the boring standard models that he brings in from spawn points, every scenario. The Strategic scenarios basically make SedWars a skirmish wargame, though I can see the gameboards' doorways making really bad choke points for non-narrative scenarios.
I am also relieved that I can definitely now see this being a game that can scale up to bigger engagements or out onto the open tabletop (squares just become inches), with the only things slowing the game down being the increasing number of cards to track for each side, or for open tabletop gaming, the fact that you would have to add a house rule where Nano-counters just have to be within say, an inch of the model they are affecting (that would still only let 8 be adjacent like on the boards), as there is no grid to "snap" to, so measurements will end up having some slop in them, and make measuring ranges be base-to-base (measured horizontally in the case of vertical heights).
Other than that, I could easily see myself busting out the WH40K terrain and playing games after the Strain have broken free of the facility, and made planet-fall.

I definitely think that I will be putting my rulebook in a report cover so it lasts longer (the kind with clear plastic covers and a slip on plastic spine) Every time I read through the book last night i worried about ripping the cover off the rest of the way from the staples.
My other addition will be storage for the figures in-box so I don't have separate boxes for one game. So I will use some spare Sabol Army Transport trays I have for the main box. I figure I'll either use a pair of 2.5 inch trays like they would fit in a Motor Pool bag, or a 2.5 inch tray on one side and two 1 inch trays stacked on the other. Mainly the 2.5 trays will be for the large-base models stood upright because of all their fragile protrusions (like Hurley's antenna), and the tall figures like the Scythe Witch or Kara and Akosha because of their tall, thin weapon tips.
The box lid will shut just fine if I put all the flat stuff on the bottom of the box and the trays in on the top, the only bummer being that one side of the 2.5 tray will have to have one inch cut off to fit the SedWars box. Plus side, though the trays are shorter than the box on their tall dimension, so there is a gap running the length of the box along the top edge of the trays, which is a perfect fit for the cards, dice, some dry erase markers, and the myriad tokens(besides the area effect and tramcar ones) in a small bag.
I also think I will be using a ruler and a razorknife to trim the gameboards down by 1/16 of an inch or so on all four of their sides. As I said above, right now they fit so tight in to the box, their corners are damaged. and if I put them all the way at the bottom of the box, this exaggerates the tight fit even more. Automatically Appended Next Post: One thing I found lacking from the game boards is that the doorways have no squares in them! It poses no problem to moving, but it'll play hell with drawing vectors for ranged attacks through them, and close combat through a door looks a bit funky with the "adjacent" models being so far apart, lol
It's not me either, because I already see several questions on the Mcvey forum about how to draw vectors through doorways.
I also kinda wish that the boards wouldn't have been printed so darkly. It is hard to make out details in some places, and in others the blue window and red line are easy to miss as they blend easily into the background.

Played 4 games of it so far. Only did the first campaign mission. Was strain once and Vanguard 3 times. No one really took any crazy stuff, as the strain is limited and vanguard need bodies. Only won once out of the four with the vanguard, and just barely. Thus far it is really balanced model wise on hitting and wounds, ect. Over all lots of fun and hope to start the painting process.
Some issues with it i had was the rulebook, the warping, and keeping track of whos who.
For the rulebook is vauge on a lot of things and really jumbled around. The game really needs a quick reference sheet. I feel the Vanguard and Strain sections should have been two little mini books seperate from the rulkes so each player can read it and have it infront of them.
For the warping, it was odd. Opened in my house was fine, went to play it at the game store, same tempature and some parts curved really bad so I had to semi bend them back. They seem to be getting ok now after a few days of constant bend back.
Keeping track of who is who is the hardest thing I feel. The best way I can think of is get X ammount of paint colors for each side and put a slash or a dab on the card and paint the ring around the base the same. Anyone have any other ideas? Id rather not paint the cards. In the last game the strain had 13 guys out so with only 3 model types, gets hard ot keep track.

Just as a note it looks like the Barker figure in plastic had to be altered from the metal/resin original to allow casting in a rigid steel mould
The plastic figure has only a single knee pad compared to the two of the original
so you might want to consider making a push mould of the loose single knee pad before gluing it on (if the change bothers you)

I haven't taken mine out of the bag (still kinda on the hedge about keeping it, but I'll probably cave) but the mold lines seem pretty non-existent on mine. Barker looks to have some on his main body, but that's about it.
What's everyone's preferred method going to be for keeping track of individual models when you have multiples? I'm thinking of sticking a piece of masking tape to the upper corner of each card's sleeve, and then a corresponding number on the model. I'm thinking either:
-Numbered shoulder pads for the Vanguard
-Put a number decal on the back of every base rim for each faction
-Number the underside of the base, will be a problem for the Vanguard when the counters get clipped to the base, though.
-Get in Paint to make and print out some quick numbered chits - with a background color for each faction - in paired numbers. Then just place one next to each card, and the other on the figure's base.

I intend to paint a coloured stripe down the flat part of the right shoulder pad and paint a number from 1 to 5 in the Airlock font in white on the coloured stripe for regular troopers and leave it blank for special weapons. So I'll end with different coloured squads numbered 1 to 5 with one of each special weapon. I'll sleeve the cards so I'll just put a small corresponding sticker on the sleeve.
The strain are easier to do just paint the clothes different colours.
