Out of curiosity, why are you folks talking about Dreadball in the Kins of War thread? Unless it was locked, there is a Dreadball thread... Though it does make some sense to combine the two.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

No, it doesn't!

Though that is good advice - please keep the Dreadball talk to the Dreadball thread, and the Kings of War talk here.

Thanks!

Do we know who is doing the Werewolves? I'm guessing its Remy since we'd likely have already seen pics of them if it was Bob (He's a fast one).

Apparently the werewolves are done, just not pictured.

Are you sure? I can't imagine them not wanting to show them off if they are finished.

Either way, I hope to see them soon.

Werewolves are being done by a different French sculptor and are probably still in France, or Mantic are saving them to show off next month alongside the other KoW stuff.

Lots of new stuff being shown off next month for both Kickstarters, I'd imagine this is the point where the bulk of the KoW sculpts are done and they're starting to get them all back from the sculptors ready for tooling.

The latest Dreadball update (wait it is relevant, don't delete this post) contained the folowing bit at the end

Starting on the 1st December we’re also going to be running the 12 Sculpts of Christmas, alternating the kickstarter with our Kings of War Kickstarter Campaign by showing off lots of new figures that are coming off the sculptors' desks, and we've got some new events to talk lots about as well - please stay tuned to the updates page, sign up to our newsletter and like us on Facebook to keep up-to-date with the going-ons at the Mantic Bunker!

so it sounds like at least 6 new previews on the way

I think it's really interesting that Mantic is hiring French sculptors for their new units. They will definitely have a different, almost post-Rackham feel to them that will definitely set them apart from other manufacturers. I wonder if Ronnie is purposefully trying to develop a "Mantic Style" going forward, now that they've just exploded into the spotlight.

Could be,

Could be just he recognized the quality Remy produced and decided to stick with it

(even if he is I suspect more expensive then some mantic have hired in the past)

whatever it's a smart move

This sounds great. I've been kicking myself a bit for not getting into Dreadball but nobody around here plays any "specialist" type games...

I love the Ogre and am looking forward to seeing the new stuff! I have to say that Mantic has done alright by me and will continue to benefit from my nerd-budget shopping.

Does that look fine to you?

I'm not sure how real life can fix that. Do I need to hold it close enough for the parallax effect of my two eyes to work, like with a Magic Eye image? What will customers with only one functioning eye do?

EDIT: Sorry for the off-topic discussion. We were just discussing the effect of Mantic rushing sculptors for KS rewards, and Wildcard naturally came up.

The ogres do look very nice, but also have a definite "WoW" look to them. I wonder if Mantic, like GW, is trying to cash in on the popularity of MMORPGs by coopting their artistic style? Dreadball has a very CGI-designed look for many of the figures (the ones that don't look damaged), and the KoW sketches look like that, too.

So, Remy can help himself to the coffee, but Morley doesn't even get to use the employee restroom?

My biggest worry is sculpts suffering because there are too many models for the top tier sculptors to make. When they have models by Remy which are amazing, every model will be compared to it.

These ogres are amazing and unique compared to most other ogres out there. Seems very Orc/ogre halfbreed. I will be getting some of these as regular models, but these may convince me to play KoW.

Wildcard still seems bad, but I will have mine soon so I can judge myself.

I'm really not seeing WoW in those ogres.

At a stretch, they're kind of vaguely like the Mogu. But not compellingly so.

When I saw the initial stretch, I saw them as much more like the GW ogres of the late 1980's/early 1990's (particularly the original Skrag the Slaughterer). Now that I see the greens, they still look like those ogres, but as though they were sculpted by Rackham instead of GW.

I don't mean they look like WoW ogres. They look more like WoW orcs, from what I remember of them. I just mean that they have the same cartoony, clean-lined, large-arms-small-legs-triangular-torso look that I associate with WoW.

The French sculptor continues the Rackham Orc style for the Ogres:

If Mantic hired all the ex-Rackham sculptors... Wow!

Well, if adding a bit of upper thigh length to an Ork is enough Oger design for you

Here is what Rackham itself considered an Oger design, not resembling Orcs at all:

I don't see ogre at all. I see 100% wow Orc.

I am curious to see it with pink skin paint because it screams to be a green skin.

I don't think mantic needs to make their ogres look like any one else's ogres and are free to forge their own path, but if all the ogres look like this, that is awesome. It is a great sculpt pure and simple.

Yeah, I' wouldn't say 100% WoW orc, but I see the resemblance. I do agree that if Mantic continues to hire ex-Rackham sculptors it can almost only be a good thing.

Even when it comes to using these in a WFB army (Can Ogres still be mercenaries for Empire, Orcs, etc?) - GW changed the look of their Ogres considerably, and have done the same with Kroxigor and all manner of other models, so a band of these guys as their own unit of Mercs, etc, will look just fine.

The reason these Ogres don't look like the Rackham Ogres is because those were specifically Japanese inspired in style for the Goblin force, whereas these are a little more generic fantasy force for any army.

I really like them, and the fact that it was done by a Rackham sculptor shows. Couldn't care less if they look a little like WoW orcs at all. I don't see it all that much to be honest.

Ogre looks nice! Definitely like the direction this stuff is heading in, regardless of influence, and if it does end up looking like some of the Rackham stuff that can only be a good thing!
