I would hope people followup on this little rules-bit. That's an important rules clarification. This is not to say that the WD people are the final arbiters of the rules - but it's important to consider that they probably are closer to the designers and their intentions than the rest of us.

I've always suspected this is how the rule is supposed to work... but given I collect Tyranids I always thought I was being biased.
But it does really open up some tactics. Suddenly your venomthrope covered TMC's have a 3+ cover save if you put some small bugs in front of them, makes a huge difference compared to 5+.
I doubt you will find many willing to accept the WD interpretation.

Although no where in the Intervening models section does it mention a 25% requirement.
Intervening Models
If a target is partially obscured from the firer by models from a third unit (models not from the firer’s unit, or from the target unit), it receives a 5+ cover save in the same way as if it was behind terrain.

Sooo, THIS just got put up on Faeit:
"Imperial Citizens, take cover!" There's only one thing that comes to mind: Artillery. And if that's in concert with the earlier rumor from Lords of Wargaming (who have a nearly perfect record, am I right Pretre?) then there's only one existing Tyranid that fits that bill: The Dactylis. AND following that train of though of it being a 2-thing kit there's another creature that shares a body type with the Dactylis: The Cerebore (or Malefactor maybe). I guess I'll have to spend the next week and a half doing my best not to get excited at the possibility. Because there are 3 (or 4 if you separate the Cerebore and Malefactor) that they have yet to port over from Epic: Dactylis, Cerebores (and Malefactors), and the Dominatrix.

Has any codex been updated when new units have been released or is this the first time new units have been released after a codex update?

Except it's not, because the "Intervening Models" section is a special case of cover and only says "partially obscured", something which is never defined... so the natural assumption is that you take the common english meaning of the word "partially obscured" rather than "25% obscured". But we have threads in YMDC discussing it....

I was more hoping that the leaks were wrong and/or trolling the Tyranid fans. Better the leakers were trolling Tyranid fans than GW.
I don't even have a horse in this race (I don't play Tyranids, don't know anyone that plays Tyranids). But when GW screws over one section of the playerbase, the game, as a whole, suffers greatly.
