Sounds very plausible. Fits with the no codex entry without a model model too.

I never really thought about it this way. Releasing the models in stages with their own mini-codex allows GW to ensure everything in the AdMech codex is released with rules and models prior to the major codex. In this way they are able to add a new faction and maintain their copyright stuff. I didn't really look at it this way before. It is sort of like the wave release schedule... only in reverse with mini-dexes.

Makes me want to do an edit of that variety show clip that's been making the rounds
"So....we figure 3rd party pirates are making bank with our IP. It's costing us money! While we can't stop the loss we can monetize it!

Wait, you must be kidding?

No, we aren't. We release a couple kits, and charge a fee for the new rules! Rinse and repete a few times, then make them buy them all over in an overarching codex.

This will never work.

But it already has! For years! It started with Forgeworld!

Forgeworld?

Yes Forgeworld! The same rules dribbled out, added and subtracted from codex for years, getting purchased again and again. Then we tried it with the new AM Stormtroopers! It worked!

No!

Yes! Yes! The MT codex sold out the first week! Even, even, even with rumors of a new AM codex comming in the weeks after!"

They are the lighter armoured tracked infantry variants that features two types of cannon; a version of the familiar plasma cannon and a newer larger tech-based calibre weapon of mysterious providence.

The models themselves feature a mechanical upper body hardwired both into the track assembly and weapon arms, but can swivel at the hip whilst their power feeds are contained into rear back mounted power sources.

Each miniature has the main weapon attached to their right arms which are cropped at the shoulder, and their left arms contain a smaller hand held flamer type weapon.

Their heads are rife with targeting reticules and there is no organic components visible on these versions of the models.

They are heavy support choices for Cult Mechanicus.

Sounds like the plasma cannon servitors I kitbashed together awhile back. Though I am guessing a bit larger in size...

Booooo.

BOOOOOO.

Swing n' a miss GW, swing n' a miss. Their plastics tech has gotten pretty decent at organic shapes recently, still not resin but pretty good, so I find it really confusing that they seem so reticent to push the fusion of man and machine/body-horror/Blanche-esque side of the Mechanicus aesthetic, almost as much as I find their insistence on ignoring the existing background, sparse though it may be, about the Mechanicus' military annoying. I understand that they're labouring under the delusion that throwing new names at things will stop 3rd parties by somehow making everything super-ultra-mega-Voltron-level copywritten, and so they balk at historical-adjacent terms like "Praetorian" and "Sagitarii", but damnit I heard "Skitarii" and "tracked heavy infantry" and was finally looking forward to fielding on the tabletop the units which attracted me to the faction years and years ago when they were just fluff. Call them "Blurblewurlble-class Praetorians" and "Sagitarii Gurblegurps" or whatever if you need to pander to the laywers, but at least nod to the old background.

And give me my giant implausible grotesquely over-muscled half-man-half-machine combat servitors, dagnabbit.

We get freakin' huge tracked robots with armaments in AdMech and what is our reaction? Bitching about it not being organic without even having seen ANYTHING of the new models.

Come on guys. Seriously.

Sharing a not 100% positive opinion = "bitching" - righto chief. Care to trot out the rest of the Moaning About Moaning greatest hits collection? I'm sure you could squeeze "hater" in there somewhere

I apologize for the poor choice of words. "Complaining" would have been a better one.

But still, we get something unique to the entire 40k model line - tracked infantry. Which in itself is awesome. And the first replies deal with it maybe not fitting entirely what we imagined, disregarding the model without ever having seen even the slightest, unfocused, blurry picture "leaked" of it.
Maybe the negativity of the forums starts to get at me after the years...

Guys, lets wait and see. Looks like there'll be another variant. Hell, the only non-dualkit from the Skitarii release was the onager...

The disappointment, it's not a case of "not fitting what we imagined" it's not fitting what's been described in a number of books. GWs free to do something unique but if they wanna do something unique they shouldn't squander the established aesthetic of some of the few explicitly described preexisting fictional units.

Given how many people seem to hate the turret on the storm raven, sourcing the servitor gunner from that kit may be a good start to any conversions, and a lot easier than cutting off all the robes from the skitarii torsos.

A new unit description from Captain Citadel over on BoLS:

http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?55059-Codex-Cult-Mechanicus-Rumor-Roundup/page4

"Cult Mechanicus will feature a new robot type unit that is part Forge World Castellex, part Space Marine Centurion.

Their bodies are plated armour sealed in the front much like the centurions in appearance, but with no chest mounted weapons. They are on 50mm bases and are quite larger than the Centurion models. Their heads are a giant domed EVA helmet which looks quite fantastic. There are no organic components visible the models, they are automanta.

There are several armaments they come with; a larger calibre cannon in their right hand to flamer type weapon in their left. Articulated hands with finger appendages are also an option, as well as a top shoulder mounted versions of these same type weapons."

I for one look forward to the tracked unit.

Only Orks had those in 1st edition (Cybork parts) and i look forward to more Mechanicus.
It took long enough to finally get them, i am just glad we do get them and just as with other armies, i buy what i like, i don't buy what i don't like.

Up to now i liked everything but the spider (to bulky IMO).
And i do like the tracked robots.

Number 5 is alive!
We finally have a WALL-E and/or Claptrap in 40k!

How many HS will codex AM:CM have? that's 2 now possibly 3

No mention of what the troops are ( if they are not the electro Priests)

I'm not sure I like the sound of mini Castellex

No Servitors though and again it be a kit that would be useful in multiple armies.

So far we have an HQ (Dominus), two Elite (Electro-Priests), 1 Heavy Support (Giant Robots with Controller), and 2 more Heavy Support (Kataphron Destroyers).

Would the troops be from the Skitarii codex??
And what about the fast attack units?

I just wish they would release everything now so I don't have to wait to get my mits on these models.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
