The end of the year is always a time to look back at the past year and forward to the next one.

I had set out this year to paint more than I buy, so as to not simply add to the pile of grey plastic piling up in my drawers. I got started on an excel page where I put everything I spent on the hobby and everything I bought, built or painted. I have built quite a bit of things that I had in my backlog, but didn't paint nearly enough... I've built 149 minis this year, but only painted 64...

However I did keep by buying in check, with only 65 minis bought, and that includes a Kill Team starter box and a dwarf blood bowl team...

But that means that I am not closer to finishing the painting of all of my armies and teams than I was at the start of the year, and that is something that I want to change for 2019. So I am taking again the hobby challenge of painting more than I buy, and I add one thing: I want to get done with at least one army. One complete army that I then can put on a board for the 'Armies on parade' in October...

I also pledge to not hesitate for a moment when and if GW finally releases Fulgrim and/or a new Keeper of Secrets, and take that opportunity to give a proper paint job to my Diaz deamonettes...

What are your hobby goals for the year? What are your wishes? How are you going to tackle the pile of shame and turn it into gloriously painted armies that will stomp your enemies and usher a brighter future for the galaxy / mortal realms / planet / middle earth / whatever the setting of your game of choice is...

Oh, and please share your proudest hooby acheivement of 2018, because what use is it to spend hours painting if we can't show it off?

For me it has to be my house Malinax Knight Errant:

What is yours?

As I've got my hobby room up and running now, I'm hoping that I have fewer 'challenges' this year and can actually get some painting done!

Certainly aiming to have the remainder of my CSM army painted this year. Possibly make a dent in my DE too...

Well I just won a game mat at a charity event a few weeks ago. So my goals for 2019 are:

-Actually compete and finish in the Dakka painting comp at least 6 times this year

-Paint my AoS Khorne army (currently 1k)
-Finish building and painting my Necrons ( currently 1500)
-Finish building and painting my Protectorate of Menoth (like 3 starter boxes)
- Build and paint my two Necromunda Gangs (20 Goliath, 10 Orlock, 10 Cawdor, and box game terrain)
-Build and paint terrain for my table

You're aiming for a whole chapter? Do you have a shot of your army so far?

Hobby room is good! I have just built a folding gaming table that will hopefully mean more games for me...
CSM, what flavour are you going for?

That, my Lord Inquisitor, sounds like quite a bit of painting to do, I wish you the best! I also have some terrain to paint, the kill team terrain is really worth a proper paintjob...

I have a Khorne, now officially World Eaters, army that I've been working on since the start of 6th Ed. About 3500 points worth, in various degrees of painted but very little actually finished. Progress has been very slow when it's limited to evenings after the kids have gone to bed, and relies on my having sufficient motivation to get all my hobby stuff out to work on a lap tray and then putting it all away again afterwards... Now it's all just out and available in a dedicated hobby space it's much easier to do a few minutes here and there, and it all adds up.

My plan is to buy no new miniatures (minis free with specific conquest issues don't count, as they're are too good a bargain to pass up. Also, there's an exemption clause for Sanguinius if he's released this year) enter more golden demons, and finish most of my current unpainted models.

You have deamons to go along with your World Eaters? I guess that you're looking forward to a possible return or Angron to 40k? Personally I'm happy with any primarch, as I really like their stories...

You are certainly more disciplined that I can ever be... You have a lot of unpainted models? I probably have somewhere between 300-400 unpainted minis if I count the armies that I put together for my kids (Orks for my son and Eldar for my daughter...)...

I've got a blog post coming up with my 5 hobby resolutions for 2019, but here's the quick rundown:

1. Don't Start Any New Miniature Games (apart from the one in this list)
2. Finish Painting 5 Armies/Forces/Warbands
3. Run an Event
4. Start and GM a Roleplaying Game
5. Play and Finish a Longstreet Campaign

I also kept a tally of what I painted this past year:

10mm Artillery - 1
10mm Infantry - 158
10mm Monster - 1
15mm Artillery - 1
15mm Cavalry - 33
15mm Chariots - 4
15mm Elephants - 7
15mm Infantry - 186
15mm Misc - 2
28mm Artillery - 1
28mm Infantry - 211
28mm Monster - 2
28mm Vehicles - 3

A pretty good count, I think.

I also failed pretty hard in the goal of reducing the plague of the grey plastic.

Main aim for 2019 is to paint all the Blackstone Fortress minis and finish my Primaris Kill team. Secondary goal will be to paint some of the Kickstarter things i backed (Zombicide Invader and Heavy Metal:Black Earth) if they ever show up.

Tertiary goal to finish the Guard tanks I totally promised myself I'd do by end of August...

My challenge would be to reduce the size of my armies. Yes, it's a challenge because in 20+ years I'm the hobby I've never sold a single model. Now I have too many miniatures and no time for playing and at the same time to paint them all. Also 7th edition spam madness is over so I have several units that will never see the game anymore. I'm looking to sell 4000ish points of models considering all three armies that I own.

That would be my goal for 2019 hobbywise. I'd also like to scratch build removable deff rollas to my ork wagons made in plasticard and to scratch build an ork plane. To paint all my orks would be the challenge for 2020.

I’ll take the challenge of painting more than I buy. I have quite a few units a miniatures to flesh out armies I already have that need to be built and painted. So I will attempt to stick to it.

My proudest achievement was painting the Imperial Knight I've had that has been sitting collecting dust for the better part of five years. It was in bad shape with broken cables, no face plate, wrecked handhails etc. With some care and replacement parts I managed to fully refurbish it for the glory of House Terryn.

Second would be getting a fully painted German army for Bolt Action. All of them have their eyes painted which was a huge step for me as a painter. I'm not as proud of them only because I can never use them as everyone other Bolt Action player seems to use Germans too! And I hate Axis on Axis games.

My goal for 2019? Get my Empire army finally painted! I wanted to start on these guys for a couple of years now but every time a new project lands in my lap.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
30k Ultramarines: 2000 pts
Bolt Action Germans: ~1200 pts
AOS Stormcast: Just starting.
The Empire : ~60-70 models.
1500 pts
: My Salamanders painting blog 16 Infantry and 2 Vehicles done so far!

Its gotta be done. I don't actually have that many compared to some. I don't have armies or anything as I don't game. I'd say I probably have about 20-30 odd models including a couple of scale projects. But I want to get them done, and not get distracted half way through models, as they just get left under my bed after that. I generally spend about 3-4 weeks on single models (mainly primarchs/forge world and GW characters) so my output isn't that high either.

Well, 2018 was a good year for me, I got 2000pts of foot slogging Custodes fully painted and based and played my first tournament! Now, with those milestones done, here are my "Geek New Year's Resolutions"...

1. Get all the terrain I received from fellow DakkaDakka member Dysartes in a trade for my Steel Legion Army, along with terrain from my Conquest subscription.

2. Get my 2000pts of Minotaurs Chapter space marines done ready for another tournament at the end of October.

3. Get more games of 40k under my belt, and Kill Team if possible.

And that's it!

My achievements for 2018 were this.
—I sold off anything that wasn’t for one of my actual armies (which is still 8 odd lists), and various books and so on, Made £2000 from a mass of sales.
—I also didn’t buy anything in 2017 model wise, so tried to keep a similar tone for 2018. Only Kill Team level purchases and bits for Necrons (which was my 2018 hobby goal as below). And Conquest Magazine (for 2019 goals maybe? )
—Paint up and build on my Necron list, in a little Tale Of Gamers my gaming group did. Got about 1000 points done.

2019, I’m hoping will bring more of a hobby focus, as I spent more of last year Xboxing & Netflixing in my evenings than painting.
I’ve got a load of audio books to work through, so I can paint as I listen!
—Necrons: I want another 1k minimum, ideally all my owned models painted (maybe a Plog to spur me on).
—Kill Team: A Primaris faction, from conquest.
—Death Guard: Bought up a load on first release, now Conquest is adding to that. So this army is the other main thing to work on this year.
(Just can’t decide on paint schemes for the two above.. I have ideas in mind but can’t settle on something..)
—Play more! Kill Team really got gaming going for the back end of the year, but this year I want a steady flow throughout, more KT but also some 40k. And maybe Kings Of War too, as that is meant to be my groups fantasy replacement, we just haven’t done much with it yet..
—To limit model buying. Clearly have enough, don’t need more, need some kind of support group like AA. I really want these new gobbos, lovely models! But I don’t even play AoS or anything..

I did my 2018 Year in Review, and I think it went quite well:
1. Kingdom Death : Monster - I basically finished building what I had set out to do.
2. had a lot of fun actually playing games!
3. sold more than I bought

While I didn't build much quantity, the quality of what I built was good and I am satisfied with the results; overall, my unbuilt models pile decreased somewhat. Progress!

2019, I intend to tackle metal, getting my Warhammer Fantasy, 40k, and Heavy Gear stuff glued to bases and playable at some level!

I also intend to sell of more hobby stuff that I'm not planning to get to. Clear space.

All in all good resolutions for the year, I'd say...

Kicked off the year with a game of kill team, and potentially getting rid of some my unused miniatures (my tau, who never see play...). Maybe it will motivate me to get rid of more and concentrate on the few armies that I pull out of storage to play from time to time...

I’ve been going into a lot of detail over in my blog.

What I painted
Review and look forward

In short, I painted:

And my New Year’s Resolutions are:

1 Finish painting the odds and ends from my friend's SOB army that I worked on. Just a handfull of arcoflagelents, spare immolater weapons, some IG HQs.
2 Paint more then I buy.
3 Paint At least 12 spare bits. I've magetized a number of things, painted the primary set up, but never get around to doing the other options.
4 Try to get more games in. Optimally 24, with at least some being AoS.
5 Update my blog at least once a week, and maintain a consistent pace of work (1 mini a week).
6 Get my Deathwatch army to a larger level, 2 more full squads minimum, aiming to field an allied battalion (2HQ, 3Troops) and 1,000 points.
7 Enter and finish an entry every month for the painting challenge. If the monthly challenge stops, enter at least one comp in the year. In addition, paint something odd from the back of the bench a/o try out a new technique.
8 Buy, build, and/or paint at least one piece of terrain.

I’ve started my 2019 project. Getting a good sized chaos darkoath warband together for Sigmar. Hoping to get the bulk of it painted before my first daughter arrives in April!!!

If anyone’s interested I’ve Started a blog - link is in my signature.

The other aim is...as always...to organise my hobby room. I swear I organise and fix it at least twice a year but inevitably it becomes a bomb site shortly afterwards...

I only just got back into the hobby at the end of last year, but I am pretty proud of my first unit of Tzeentch horrors.

Goals for 2019 include:

- build and paint 2000 points of Tzeentch daemons
- build and paint a 6x4 game board w/ modular terrain
- play at least 5 games of Kill Team (proxy daemons as Tsons)
- play at least 5 games of 40k (!)

Good luck to everyone and happy modelling in 2019

For the year just ended I had pledged to paint three full fleets (ISA, Narn and EA) for B5 (a total of 107 models) and I managed to get 63 done plus an extra 31 from 2 other fleets (LoNAW and Shadows).

For this year I aim to have 6 full fleets painted, I have finished two of these already (ISA and Shadows) and am over halfway on each of three others but have yet to buy the models for the sixith (probably Dilgar).

In addition I aim to attend at least three major tournaments for X-Wing (Nationals at the end of the month, System Open in Sydney in August and one other).
I also want to get my combined Imperial 40k army painted, or at least assembled.

Some, not many. I have a squad of 10 Bloodletters and an 11th that works as a Herald. Plus an ancient metal bloodthirster (the original model, I think, that was only about 2" tall - like this one). I made some solid progress on my Primaris Crimson Fists.

65 line troops, a dreadnaught, lieutenant, captain and ancient done.

A bunch of Sisters painted, probably around half of them done.

A bunch of Necron Warriors and scarabs are painted as well as 5 Lychguard.

Around 50 models also done in my Death Guard and Nurgle warband.

It was all going so well until the Christmas battle forces came out, and 5 of the 6 40k ones were for army’s I collected (Ad Mech being the one not mentioned). So i’m now swimming in unbuilt models all over again. If the Necron battle force is still around when I get paid in January I might pick up a couple more of them, but then i’m going to have to take a break from buying as I don’t think i’ll complete the models I already have in 2019. The break from buying will last as long as it takes for plastic Sisters to be released, then the gloves are off again.
