I've been very distracted from my entry lately. damn my weak attention span. I've been slowly chipping away, and I should finish at least 2 of my chaos dwarves. the third is a possibility. they are only small after all.

Some cool entries this month.

Well with this thread and the 'show off your OOP models' thread i've been distracted by rummaging through baggies of 90's metal minis rather than any actual painting this week. But i am now the proud owner of a disassembled whirlwind (metal turret obviously). But at least there are still two weekends and a bank holiday left to get my entry finished.

@Freya Superb! And love that gold rimmed base, that's proper fancy, that is!

@maxwin Also pretty fantastic, that freehand banner looks ace!

@Arakasi Same with that scapula, very nicely done.

I've decided I'm just going to paint the dire avenger exarch to give myself a chance of finishing at least one model to a moderately high standard. I've whacked some base colours on and I think it should look pretty good. Going to try to freehand some of the gold designs on the armour, though I'm not sure if I should shade the white and paint over, or paint the design and then shade the whole lot... Same with the designs on the helmet.

Looking forward to that exarch, CancelledApocalypse - I love the cover art from that edition.

So, I eventually decided on doing some old warhammer models - a knight and some dark elves - they will never...ever...be aelves to me...and 'Astra Militarum'!? What the hell is that?...sorry, got sidetracked....

These guys are all from the late 80s and early 90s - not the oldest models I own but the ones that really made me fall in love with this hobby. In the late 80s, D and D dark elves were all purple - skin, robes, the lot, so mine were all painted a light blue skin colour. So...that's what these guys will be painted, too. I have some dwarves from 1981 as well that might find their way into the diorama if there is space.

I've started on the knight and you forget how good models are these days! The surfaces of this guy are so rough - there are literal fingerprints in the sculpt - FINGERPRINTS!

Still, the nostalgia is just too good...for the first time in months, I am actually enjoying painting. Here's my proof:

Ugh. I had a whirlwind as a kid. what a nightmare model. trying to get the rocket platform to stick to the turret.

Finally finished drilling and gluing and pinning today. The Patriarch is ready for priming. Hopefully, these next steps go quickly, time's running out!

Had a quick flick through this thread, and there are some BEAUTIFUL entries. Great work, guys. Loving them all!

My finished entry is a metal Jain Zar, not a great sculpt by any means, but one that lasted over twenty years before a recent replacement.

Based to be fielded with my army.

Cheers,

CB

PS: Suggestions on background color as I do not have a macro lens or function on the iPhone 7...the blue seems to make the paint look like contrast rather than the blending it should show.

Lots of great stuff coming from you all this month.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with those monsters Dukeofbeer. Particularly the troll, I love the old troll models and still prefer them to anything GW have done since.
Nice Jain Zar CB. Odd how she looks so different in white given its not that far from the usual bone
Looking good so far Arakasi, freehand is really nice and good job on the white

Long way to go for me but at least I've now made a start on my zoat

There are some amazing pieces out there! Great work everyone.
It's the 24th already, so I had better get going!
My bagpiper is primered. I'm going to throw down some base layers tonight, and hopefully have the time to put in some detail before the month is out.

Thanks very much! Appreciate the kind words. When the dark ones descend from the heavens, you shall surely be among the most esteemed shareholders!
I never want to work with lead again! I still have flashbacks to drilling out the holes for pinning...

Working from home today, so definately not binge-watching Stranger Things and painting minis. GF has started calling this the Demagorgon, which I don't hate. Bizarrely Stranger Things has like, normalized me making lots of little space men, so who knows.

Finished up the flesh today, and took the masking off the base. Full speed to brains, chitin and weathering that metal!

Some really awesome entries guys, these threads are always great fun to watch!
