Quick! Smother it with WIP pictures!

Stomboyz Nob 1 skin almost done...

And Stormboyz Nob 2...

Da Big Mek decides to get in on the skin action (if you remember, I was unhappy with my first attempt, and the green wash - so here it is redone as per the Stormboyz Nobz)

Nothing to see here! Move along!

Oh, okay. DA Green highlighting is complete - and looks better for it. The last layer of Rotting Flesh really took away whatever problem I had with it... Metal on the Rokkit Pack has been done and given a Badab Black wash to dull it down (a little). I may come back to it (Devlan Mud, Chainmail highlights), but for now I needed to do the neat fiddly bits in and around the green before starting on the White - which you can see has begun (that would be the Calthan Brown areas at the moment...) More painting than modelling this week (sorry Artsoldier35!) - I actually got into some rhythm, which is unusual and must be taken advantage of (though the metal work almost killed it). That and I missed two nights of painting last week...

Da Dark Angelz are headed home with me to Scotland this weekend for another tussle or two with El Quixo - battle reports sure to follow (in time...)

Artsoldier35 wrote:The only thing about it I'm not happy with is the main gun. Kind of plain. Oh well, I'm really ahppy with the Front forks which are made from Q-tip stems and paint brush protectors.

It looks excellent. Always have to battle the twin horrors of never finishing or adding too much!

I started the Big Mek a long time ago. I don't remember you claiming the idea

Those look great Arakasi! Wish I had the nerve to post what I've done but I have this weird way of painting orks where they pretty much look like heck, and then a miracle happens & they look fine... I'll get back to it after tomorrow's tournament (and all the painting I'm having to do for that).

@Gitsplitta: I decided a long time ago to just post stuff up regardless If I waited until anything "looked fine" I'd only be making a post a month Also, this way, I can take on suggestions before I'm too committed...

@troy_tempest: Great game, will write up the battle report at some point...

@moonshine: Dislodged by the Power Klaw coming out the back I feel its easy enough to consider them "off to the side" or "borrowed" (though this doesn't really suit the story of the piece). They were removed because otherwise the Marine just takes up too much space! (See my Big Mek for a Marine corpse with (partial) backpack...)

@Everyone: Thanks for the continued support! I am progressing with the "white". Might even manage a pic for tonight/tomorrow...

WIP - Stormboyz Nob 1

WIP - Stormboyz Nob 2

Right - these are both at the same "stage" - but I did the last layer (bleached bone) on Nob 2 first, and was a bit heavy handed. Still to do a final white highlight on both. I think Nob 1 looks better (currently), but Nob 2 is closer to the colour I am going for. Thoughts oh loyal reader? I think I may need to do a white glaze or two to bring the colour up.. (on both).

While you are considering your thoughts to the above, here are two more to ponder:

1) The Dark Angels symbol on the Banner Pole - I've painted it green, but I am wondering whether it should be white, or possibly red. It doesn't actually appear to ever be green in a Dark Angels force. However, it does not draw the eye in its current form, which is good - as it is not the focus...

2) The Banner Pole pennants - what colour/design to do? At the moment I'm considering parchment coloured with dark brown/black glyphs, red with white glyphs or even green with white glyphs... each has their merits (and pitfalls)

Enjoy!

I think you should use a three-point spot colour of red.
Maybe one on the sword of the dark angels banner symbol thingo, oneon a shoulder pad or preferably at his mid-section and maybe another on the space marine, on a shoulder pad or maybe as freshly-spilled blood.

Thats all I can think of.

The Power Klaws, Sluggas, Bolt Pistol and Plasma Pistol were going to be my main red spot colour - does that change your opinion?

Oh - also the skull plate on Nob 1's chest and the ammo on Nob 2's.

And a small sliver of blood from the Marines mouths, and maybe around the Power Klaw entry point (darker)

With that much red drawing your eyes down the model, maybe you should go with red banners to even the model out a bit. I think it would be a bit bottom heavy otherwise.

True. I guess I'll know more when I actually do the red Still, that is waiting on finishing the bodies, which is waiting on finishing the white... but I'm in no hurry to do the pennants, so I guess we'll wait and see

After two nights of solid painting, tonight (and tomorrow) are modeling nights!

Modeling night. So I decided to start on my lifetime dream of painstakingly converting all of my AOBR Space Marines. All projects are on hold while I complete this project. Don't worry, I should be back to Da Dark Angelz in a year or two...

Kidding!

While you have probably noticed the addition of the cab framework and boarding plank (removable, magnetised, of course!) - the bit that has improved the most for me was cutting the excess off the sides of the tray. Not sure if it's even noticeable in the pics, but this one small change improved my outlook from dissapointed to happy. Funny huh?

Not sure what you're referring to but the Trukk looks awesome! I'm enjoying seeing it develop.

There is a pic further up (with my Ork driver checking it out) - if you look above the middle wheel you will see the extrusion where the boarding blank normally goes. In the above pic its nice and straight and in line with the wheel guard. Can't really do more without modifying the pics to highlight it

I'm glad you enjoy seeing it develop - its sort of the point, that and allowing time for comments and suggestions - but it is hard sometimes too - knowing that the early stages at best *hint* at the final result. But then - even I don't know how it will end up *exactly*

AHA! I see it now and you're right! Looks better than having those little protrusions. I think that's the amazing part, that you kind of make it up as you go. I think that's how a true mek would work also.

Looking good, the high-up gunner adds a bit of humvee to the truck, which can only be a good thing .

What will you be using for the front grille? That seems like a key part of the truck.

Also, have you considered adding small symbol on front to represent the 'car brand' (like GM or BMW or Mercedes)?

Coming along nicely there, I concur the little seemingly little act of removing the boarding plank extrusions makes a big difference, and like the good Commissar above I'm interested in what your plans are for the front of the trukk - the grill and bonnet area. Planning on having an intake coming out of the bonnet or keeping it plain? I'll make no comment on the paint on the nobs as my tired little brain just wants to look at shapes, not interested in colours right now
