Ok Arakasi.... i hate you xD
That is such an epic trukk, and I envy your Mek Skillz!

I have to say, Im impressed beyond words, and im absolutely stunned that youre putting this much effort into a model youre sendding to someone else!
Im gonna have to try and loot some of your ideas, as per true ork fashion
I just wish I hadnt already built my 2 trukks!!

I definitely cant wait to do a swap with you! I only hope I can come up with something even half as awesome as this!

@monkeytroll:Thanks as always. Always happy to inspire...

@Artsoldier35: The sad thing is, yours will probably be completely finished before any of mine - except maybe its (currently non-existent) twin... I await the day I finish my painting so that I too can have crowds around my table to check out the awesome WAAAGH!

@Ramos Asura: Why the hate? Well - it works both ways (I'm sure you've seen what I'm getting in return!) and there is a reason I'll be making myself one too. It's funny - I wanted my first trade to be a bit special, to show what level I was happy to take this too - so was happy when Gitsplitta obliged. Of course, Artsoldier35 took this to a whole other level - our initial discussions started as lowly as a Big Shoota Boy, through Lootas, until I saw what he wanted to trade - at which point it started to go into multiples - until we finally settled on the current trade - much to his amazement (apparently) and mine I guess I'm up for a challenge, and Artsoldlier35 challenged me. I already have three Trukks. Making a unique fourth - well - just coming up with the idea was hard! Then it's just pride and improving my skills. The only issue is it takes me forever! At the end of the day - I'm interested in a fair trade of size and effort, whether its a Boy, Marine, Vehicle or Other. I look forward to our swap, as I do all of the swaps I have lined up - and not just because it means I'll have finished one! Bonus if its on my planned modelling list (many pages back now). Though I think I might lose it if someone suggests a Battlewagon!

Why limit yourself to only two Trukks anyway

@Miss Dee: I'm tired from last night's marathon effort (no painting or modelling tonight, and an early night too) - my brain is not quite grasping your suggestion - care to elaborate?

@monkeytroll: I tell you what - I'll do you an *invisible* Gargant. Special Mek job - it exists just outside of reality so it can't be detected or bumped into. Doesn't weigh anything either. I'll even do you THREE Seriously though, I'd love to do a trade with you - I haven't asked because I'd have to put you - I think it's ninth now - in my queue. Then again, my dilemma is that if I don't, ninth might be the least of your issues

@The Good Green: Thanks! The old one or the new one? The old one is three pieces of plasticard tube glued together with a strip of 0.5mm plasticard sheet around the outside. I then glued another piece of 0.5mm plasticard sheet across the front. Scissors and then a hobby knife to trim it back to the shape of the intake. Pushed the tip of the hobby knife through the front of each tube and trimmed it back to the plasticard tube. Looks pretty good huh? Unfortunately I decided it was too large - either smaller tubes or only two tubes was needed - and when I compared that to the original intake - well it was just going to be easier to use that The new intake - cut from the top of the Trukk engine - just sits on top of the Deffkopta engine. Two small pieces of 1mm plasticard prop it up at the back. (The Deffkopta engine sits on two pieces of 1mm plasticard on top of the Trukk engine - where the intake *was*. The plasticard here was needed due to the interaction of the Deffkopta engine with the existing top shock absorber mounts...)

mmmmm..... battlewagon

Yeah ive seen both halves of the trade, and its already on a level transcending all my expectations! Stellar work on all sides.

As to the trukks....
I was sayin I wish I hadnt already built my kits xD now I gotta get new ones!
I have a pair of 3rd edition rhinos that Im hacking apart- ones a chaos one, while the other is an imperial that I spit into two separate trukks. one half of it's still pretty open tho.... hmmm.... I think I might throw in a bit of ideas from Big Mek Arakasi

I'm sure I could have thrown in something else to sweeten the pot....but that's neither here nor there. I am extremely happy with the trade as it is set up right now. I needed a very unique Trukk for my internet squad of Orks embassador's I'm collecting. This will be their ride.

I won't even mention the whole Gargant thing....

Oh man, invisible gargants, yes please! I can do you four squadrons of cloaked fighta-bommas in exchange

Don't worry about the trade thing, I hadn't approached you as I knew you were snowed under at the moment, but consider yourself pencilled in for sometime in the future

Figured your original intake was something like that, but thanks for the detailed explanation, I was liking it, but the new version seems to fit a bit better.

@Artsoldier35: Just emphasizing - for others rather than yourself - what it would take

@monkeytroll: Cool. I'll officially put you down for number nine then The old intake had a lot more work still to be done. I think if I ever do another Trukk (or maybe a buggy) I might try again...

@Gitsplitta: Simply awesome - and I think you managed to differentiate the greens better now too. Now I just need to finish painting yours... I knew I'd regret not doing any painting last night - I just didn't think it would be so soon!

Thanks gents!

The gentle highlighting of the skin worked out just right. Now I'll go back to my Big Mek and use the technique on him in hopes of improving his look as well. It didn't take much.

For the battle damage, I used grey_death's method (there are links to it in his Son's of Medusa blog). I didn't have the right size foam to do it that way (mine was too fine) but I just used and old brush & it worked out fine. Ironically it looks like the stuff I use for the bushes on the base is just about the right consistency to work as a paint applicator for the damage, so I'll have to try that out some time later on.

I used weathering powers on him which I don't usually do, but he was just too clean looking without it. That's where the rusty spots on the "wings" (and other places) & the muting of colors on his boots and the marine armor pieces come from as well as smudging on the motor exhaust & manifold. The only thing I simply could not figure out how to do was hide the little pin in his left heel (keeps him solidly upright). I must have mutilated 10 different model railroad trees last night which had always been my plan to use to hide the pin, but none of them looked any good in the spot. At least the placement of the pin is subtle and it's the same color as the rock, so it's not very noticeable. I think I may have a couple of more varieties of trees in a box in the basement... if I find those I may take one more crack at hiding the pin.

The wings are removable for ease of transportation and storage... but it's a pretty solid model even given how "rangy" it is. I don't think (hope) you'll have any problems with it falling apart on you.

OH, one more neat little thing that was new. With my Big Mek I started adding a little white dot to my ork eyes... not so much a reflection as you would with marine lenses... but more of a "glint of evil". On the bug boy I have a perfect tiny little white dot... how I got it was to take a toothpick, dip it in white paint and very gently touch the figure with it. Worked perfectly!

There's plenty of room on the banner pole for you to add a Dark Angelz symbol if you'd like. I feel kind of guilty that there's actually no Bad Moon insignia on him (he IS a Bad Moon after all), however there is plenty of classical Bad Moon ornamentation on his wings and weapons so that'll have to do. Last thing I'd like to point out (cause it's small) is that his "purity seal" is actually a little ork glyph!

Arakasi, your work has been very inspiring to me... I never would have tried to do this extensive a conversion on an ork without seeing what you were doing with your Dark Angelz. I'm delighted to be able to do something neat for you in return. I hope he gives you many good years of service.

Gits

@Miss Dee: Apologies - I meant I didn't understand where you were going with the concept of a MacGyver Ork. An Ork that dislikes guns? The best I can come up with is a Mek of some description? Wielding a Swiss Army Knife? Just seemed on the surface a bit unclear how one would portray MacGyver as an Ork - hence - care to elaborate?

@Gitsplitta: I've been reading my recently acquired copy of Modelling Masterclass Volume I (where is Volume 2?) and been thinking of adding weathering powders to my rank and file models - I may start with y/our Stormboyz Nobz given the success you have obviously had... Cool that the wings are removable - though I still reckon I'm going to have fun transporting him! I don't think I'll be adding a Dark Angelz symbol - and I'll have to check out that Ork Glyph as purity seal closer - seems like an excellent idea I may have to "appropriate" Glad to inspire (though its been having some interesting side effects elsewhere...) and I'm sure he will account for himself well! *If* I get him before leaving for Oz for November, he may make an appearance in Oz in some battle reports against my brother (Assuming I can fit him in my case!)

Just noticed that you can't really see the purity seal very well in any of the photos... I'll take a close-up of it tonight just for fun.

The boss pole "spins" freely, so obviously one of my joints (it's 3 tubes within each other like a telescoping antenna) is loose. So you may be able to remove part of the boss pole which may also facilitate transport. It's a beast though to be sure. It's stable on a flat surface but on a gaming table with slopes and such it might be a little tippy. Sorry about that but I wanted to keep him on a standard base for you so he'd be codex-correct.

If you think that it will be a problem, I can put it on a larger base (or you can).

No problem - the current base is perfect. One of the things I've come to appreciate with my "inspirational and extensive conversions" is the "transportability" and "fielding fiddliness" - so he won't be out of place with any of my current models! Over time I hope to increase the "playability" and "transportability" of my conversions without sacrificing "versatility", "uniqueness" and "awesomeness"

I did add a flexible magnet sheet to the base... mainly for weight. A lot of folks out here line their trays with thin sheets of metal and put the magnetic sheeting on their bases so things can be transported with relative ease. I'm thinking of doing just that for my ork nobs, HQs & objective markers since none of them fit in the cells of my regular case very well & get banged up when I transport them. Just a thought.

Love the work so far - although I've only read the first 10 pages and a few of the last skimmed the rest. will try to read it all

The engine intakes are great might try some thing like them in one of my buggies i was originally gonna use a china connector to represent the engine but this looks much better but my koptas have already been reserved for other work

damn all those painted models I've seen are really driving me to do some painting

OK Arakasi, last time I take over your thread... I promise!

It's my opinion that a trade isn't really official if the figure doesn't run with my army at least once... so the boys and I started a game last night and the bug boy is leading a large mob of shootas in battle. Now he's a real Bad Moon and can properly represent the clan to Da Dark Angelz! Here's your proof...
