No, it is infinite. The Far Lands were a 'bug' (resulting from the way Minecraft handled world gen) and was fixed in Beta 1.8.
Information that is included in that article (plus, I remember them removing the Far Lands back around when I first got into Minecraft ) says that. ("The Far Lands were the area that formed the "edge" of the "infinite" map in versions prior to Beta 1.8")
There is a border which you cant travel past, I have been sad enough to report to the furthest co-ordinates you can. However someone did the maths on how long it would take to get there legitimetly. It was in the years and that was just travelling in a straight line stopping for nothing.
Morathi's Darkest Sin wrote: Hmm.. now that I hear PC Minecraft has an infinite spawning world.. I am suddenly more interested in making the jump from console to PC... however wonder if anyone could help me a sec.
I did the free trial on PC about a month ago and one of the silly differences that quickly did my head in was the fact with the PC you have to construct your tools in the box every single time.. seems daft but after playing the console with a one click your done set up all this time, the PC way seems clunky and time consuming to me. I had a look for mods, but there are so bloody many (which is a good thing long term) that I thought I'd just check if anyone here already use's one they could pass on to me, so I can go straight to a mod that does what I want it to.
It seems most people picked up on your first point about infinite worlds and didn't answer your query about crafting.
The PC version has always had the crafting grid. It's not that difficult to use once you get used to the more common recipes. On the XBox it would be really tedious to use the crafting grid with a controller, so they made a different interface.
As for mods to make it easier, one of the most popular ones is NEI (Not Enough Items).
http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/1279956-chickenbones-mods It's a client side only mod, so you can have it installed and still join servers. If you're playing single player survival, just make sure it's set to recipe mode and not cheat mode. (The latter just gives you items rather than showing the recipes).
With NEI if you have all the required recipe components in your inventory and lookup the recipe in NEI, you can shift+click the little ? icon to automatically place everything into the crafting grid in the correct locations.
Do note that not everything has to be crafted in the crafting table.
Anything which only requires a 4x4 grid can be constructed "by hand" in your inventory. So none of the tools, but torches and other smaller things can be made there.
Thanks for all the work on the tunnel. I wasn't expecting the extra effort past the Jungle Portal,
The floor and roof are 99% finished and the walls just need Cobblestone, which I don't have and Netherbrick/Fence, which I think there's enough left. Though the end of the tunnel that connects to my far off land doesn't line up to the pattern, so I hope you know how to make it look good.
As a tiny thanks, there's 4 stacks of Nether Quartz in the supplies you can have.
Hey, no worries at all -- the North Tunnel was always my project, so I feel a responsibility to ensure it is fully finished and looks consistent as far north as it goes. I also find the whole process of building it quite relaxing, which is always good...
I will bring the cobble! I am actually starting to run out, for I think the first time in my Minecrafting days.
I'll see what I can do about matching the pattern, though it's probably not a huge deal at the very end of the line.
Many, many thanks for the quartz! I use loads of that at Sacred Mountain, so it'll definitely come in handy.
OK, I think the Great North Tunnel is finished again... Lotet and I extended it around 300 blocks in the last few days, taking it all the way north to -708 in the Nether, or over 4000 blocks from Spawn in the regular world!
Lotet, you'll need to light a few of the netherwrack braziers (my flint and steel ran out), and maybe neaten up the join to your tunnel slightly, but otherwise it's good to use I think.
Abouts. We cleared the End a while ago, but Darkinnit wasn't recording or something so it was agreed to reset the boss fight and come back later. So, if you want to to go the End then you'll have to organise a party and inform Darkinnit (I mean if people are even caring now, how long has it been since the first time the Dragon was killed?). I'm assuming the Dragon's still there though, I don't know if someone's gone in and slapped it with a kipper lately.
Nope, the Dragon is still there, as all 3 Portals have been found and are unlit (as far as I know). The one the raiding party used was turned off for some reason.
It depends on the type of lag. If it's your Internet connection at fault (or brother/friend/dog downloading torrents in the other room), then it's not my fault and impossible to prove it was lag from my end.
If it's server side lag (everyone online is noticing it) give me the time it happened and I'll check the server's vitals at that time. If it's confirmed I'll return the items because it wasn't your fault. I have done this before, I'm not always a mean old miser. :-)

Yup, looks like something was lagging the server a tad at that point. Sorry about that. I've rolled back your playerdata to the point I think you died. Let me know if all's good or if I got it wrong.
Say, would I be able to get the world seed please?
I've been touring a lot of players settlements and learned a lot about positioning, using the land, moving the land, scale and detail. But the area I want to build on has lots of water, hills, cliffs and a fissure, making it hard to plan. Also because I can't see it on the dakka map.
Lotet wrote:Then I saw an island, could it be one of the fabled Flower Forests?
Spoiler:
Why, I think it IS! There are flowers here that I have never seen on the other lands. But the island is not particularly large. I fear that one day someone might come along and ruin the natural and rare beauty of this land.
Spoiler:
I can only hope the players and sheep don't exploit this wonderful place.
I am lucky enough to have a small flower forest very close to the Mountain Crown (http://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/3413/64/-2490/-1/0/0) which anyone is welcome to visit. I do ask that anyone taking flowers regrow the area with bonemeal and that they only bonemeal double-height plants as opposed to harvesting them. The cottage in the lake has basic amenities, and the area is walled off and illuminated so there should be no mob spawns inside the biome itself.
Ian Sturrock wrote:I will bring the cobble! I am actually starting to run out, for I think the first time in my Minecrafting days.
I have a fair bit of cobble in the Mountain Crown storage room, help yourself ... the chests should be labelled.
When I try it says something along the lines of 'you don't have permission to use that code mate'
I wonder if it says "mate" at the end of the sentence because I have the language set to Australian.
That's brilliant!
Yeah, whoever decided to make it an official language was a bloody genius.
When the world is loading it says "The rainbow snake is crawling" (native creation story)
Trees are call Eucalyptus, Gum and Jarrah.
Ovens are called Barbies (barbeque)
Wheat is Barley
Buckets are a Billy
Minecart is a Holden

Cart with dynamite is a Ford

Dogs are Dingos
Horses are Brumbys
Creepers are Bunyips
Looks good to me, If you want a short track there rather then travelling across the map, take the west tunnel in the nether. You will come across my tunnel towards my portal just after the stairs; It has a sign at the start of the tunnel saying either BBs or BBrotherwoods tunnel. That will bring you out here:

I don't give out the world seed because there are far too many tools that can be used to locate exact coords of treasures like diamond ore, strongholds, dungeons, loot chest contents, etc, etc, etc, without any in-game play required to do so.
That said, as thanks for finding the first Jungle on this world, (and because the new server has a lot more disk space), I have extended the range of the world map to 6000 blocks. This will take effect when the map is next rendered (in about 9 hours from the time of this post).

O.o
Celebrate good times come on.
By the way I figured out a way to trigger a spawn of ocelots. It has to be flat grass that has light levels of 15, (or direct sunlight) to spawn an ocelot.
So to the person that found it. you can cut down the entire jungle or you could clear out a small space and place torches there and have it on several levels to try and force a spawn.
Its called force spawning. you can do this to wolves and anything else really.

Hmm, the Jungle Temple gave me more than 20 pieces of rotten flesh and 2 gold ingots, seems unlucky. Oh well, doesn't matter. I got the most valuable treasure of them all (except nether star), Diamond Horse armour. Yusss!
On an unrelated note. Do you think a sword with Sharpness, Unbreaking and Looting would be better if it had either/both, Fire and Knockback? I'm trying to create the perfect sword.
I think Sharpness, Smite, Unbreaking, looting and fire aspect make the perfect sword. Knockback is only good when you are being swarmed by tons of baddies, and with a sword that good you'd take them out to fast for it to be useful.
Also, What should I name my Diamond Armored Horse? I never got around to naming him and he needs one. Just looking for ideas.
Unfortunately Smite and Sharpness can't go on the same sword, not in survival anyway. I don't know if Fire would be good because apparently Zombies on fire can light you on fire when they attack (not always) so I would probably put Knockback on any sword with Fire.
Hmm, maybe I'll make a Sword with Sharpness, Looting and Unbreaking, then another with Smite, Fire, Knockback, Unbreaking and Looting.
The second sword doesn't seem worth the trouble just to be able to kill zombies and skeletons in one hit.
If you're gonna have two, I'd suggest a Sharpness/Knockback/Looting/Unbreaking one (if possible) and a Smite/Fire/Looting/Unbreaking one. You don't necessarily want knockback on an anti-undead sword, since you'll be dealing with Skeletons as well, which get more dangerous the further they are from you. And it won't always be one hit- they can wear armour (enchanted armour, even!) remember.
The thing is, half of the most common mobs in the game are undead, and Smite deals more damage to undead per-level than Sharpness deals to non-undead. Same with Bane of Arachnids. They're specialty enchants, only useful against certain mobs, but very useful against those certain mobs.
Well, I intended to have the Sword as a nifty arena prize (even though I don't think this server has enough active players to do a big tournament) so maybe I'll just make books and enchant the sword the day before it's over, based of whoever is playing.
I was just going to keep it for display otherwise, I already have a Diamond pickaxe with Fortune, Efficiency and Unbreaking maxed.
Unrelated again, anyone have need of an Iron pickaxe with Silk Touch, Efficiency 3 and Unbreaking 3?
I really want to get back into minecraft and finish my iron golem farm, ravine house, and all the rest of the things, but I'm finding it difficult to actually gather materials to do it all. I spent like 15 mins earlier this week trying to do stuff and I just quit because I don't like building when I could be caving.
The Pickaxe is sitting in a chest at the very end of the North Tunnel, right next to the portal (nether side).
Lapis Lazuli would be good since apparently in 1.8 enchanting will require a piece every time and I don't have any. Otherwise, any mined material would do fine.
Heck, you can have it for free as long as you have a use for it.
Overlord Thraka wrote: I really hate the idea of Minecraft enchanting requiring Lapis. That makes the game even harder for beginners and the like.
But then again. I might go back to spawn and build a temple to help with certain things such as lapis. Keep a valuable store there.
So I make a trading area for everyone. So just about everything you get for a price. Maybe Diamonds, iron, and gold being the standard. (Or maybe emeralds, because they are extremely renewable)
Will have to figure it out. Because we have to talk it out on spawn.
This way we can give items to the people who want it but for a price. I mean I really don't care, I have enough diamonds to last me forever. (meaning I rarely use them)
I think we need to do more stuff at spawn. Make it look impressive.
Also, Villagers will sell it- with more reliable trading, to boot!
But yeah, an interesting limiter. I like that repairing is going to be so much cheaper, though- no longer is it a question of "Should I use these 30 levels I ground out to repair Old Faithful, or should I gamble on a new enchantment?" It's more like, "Oh, I killed a couple zombies. Why not repair the sword I did it with?"
That's also why I'm grinding out heavily enchanted stone picks, and using them until they're in the red, then just storing them. I'll have a nice supply of Efficiency IV, Unbreaking III just waiting for a couple levels and some cobblestone to start swinging again.
Even so. I used a large supply of sharpness 1 stone swords to farm towards level 30 to enchant my first Diamond pick. Far cheaper than Iron swords for starting out
Asherian Command wrote: I can't wait for the ender farm. Someone get a team together. Kill the bloody dragon, but record it and slaughter it in the name of the blood god.
Then I can start building the temple of trading at spawn and waste most of my quartz on it.
I'll join in on killing the dragon, I wanna do it a second time. Also, it'll give me a project to do, I have all the materials needed to make an ender grinder.

Wait you were the one who did it last time right?
If you did, you should do what etho did with the new one, because endermites in 1.8 will be a big problem, so we might have to deal with that. Like having diamond armor for people there to use.
An anvil setup, an enchantment table, and you know. Alot safer than it was before. Because damn was your trip scary.
My trip was totally safe, there was no possibility of falling off the edge unless you mashed your head on the keyboard. Also the enchantment table was there from the start and there was an enchanting table and there was a farm so people didn't get hungry and need I continue?

Banners
FINALLY
I can't wait to make my own banner for the hell of it.
Also seems like they really liked game of thrones....
The banners are awesome, my kids and I play on a lan game with the snapshots and like usual my 6yo had to show me how to put the skull & crossbones on a banner.
Quick, somebody swipe all the contents before anyone else can nab it.
You'll be able to tell if someone has already gone in because the Temple is sitting 1 Chunk (16 blocks) from the map edge and the shortest load distance is 3 chunks.
After the map loads again that is.

Because you need a notch apple for the mojang logo.
A wither skull for skull and crossbones.

I saw a new video and you can make chess pieces, and numbers as well. I tried swords and I don't think you can put them on the banners, but by the time 1.8 arrives it might be added if enough people ask for them.
I have a ton of wither skulls, I built a skeleton farm in the nether, brought some dogs there and when the dogs kill the skeletons they drop skulls If it's worth getting, it's worth farming
Oh and you just need 1 skull anyways, once you get a banner you like, you can put in a blank banner with the same original color and copy the banners.
Ooh, I LOVE Bane of Arthropods! I'll buy that sword off you. Or feel free to come by and use my own spider grinder. It's crazy efficient for a spider grinder- I used their proclivity to climb and get stuck in corners against them, so you can afk for a while in a certain spot and wind up with stacks of spiders waiting to be slaughtered. No pre-damage, though, which is why a super anti-spider sword is so useful. Payment for using the grinder will be a single lvl 15 enchanted stone pickaxe.

it's only 8 blocks of gold, find a new underwater temple and collect the 8 from there. Or build a overland gold farm, or go to the nether, wall yourself in with a small window and hit a pigman. gold is easy to get even by just mining with so many other options to get it.

But its gold :(
And we don't have a gold farm set up on the server yet.
Gold is pretty much worthless really, I only use it to make an apple before a boss fight. Or once in a blue moon to make a mule.
spend a hour or two mining and you'll have more than you'll need. Or the nether pigman farming. find a fortress, or any large area where they spawn, wall yourself in, hit a pigman. they'll keep coming and coming until you have more gold than you need and some cool enchanted gold armor & weapons. They'll provide gold looting swords to get more gold from them, but you do go through them quickly. It's also great for xp, just leave your good armor at home as they will destroy your gold armor after a while.
Unless you're on a pvp server, I don't see the need to make a large amount of healing potions. I only make a few before a wither fight.
Does anyone here still do exploring? I'm having a lot of fun doing this. Finding things like Flower Forests is always a joy. Though I've explored most of the area that I planned to explore as some members probably don't want me loading chunks. I'd load the entire map otherwise.
Hmm I wonder how people who have purposefully built off-map/on the edge feel about the map expansion to 6000.

I'll trade it for 2 Diamond. Or if you really want, one of your Bane of Arthropod Swords. It's just sitting in a chest in the Spawn dormitory. Feel free to take the Knockback 2 book if you want.

Not really. I am planning on using them for beacon blocks.
Mostly due to the fact that I really need a powerful beacon in my area so I don't die while building my base.
Plus gold is also used for clocks, Golden Apples, Powered rails and weighted pressure plates,

6000? that's a good start, In my survival game I traveled 20k in every direction to get my all biomes achievement I didn't find a mushroom island til 13k, or spiked ice til 18k, but I made a really neat town in the mushroom biome and transported some villagers there. It took forever to build a bridge to the island then a moment of insanity to build a train run to it so I could build a village there.
So what server do you play on? and good luck loading the entire map a youtuber is making a run to the far lands for charity and that's some 12,000 KM away from spawn.
I meant the entire Dakka Map not the entire server
http://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/-208/64/240/-8/0/0 I tried exploring more off map starting from my village and heading north but the only thing of any interest I found was a villager selling ender pearls. What else could be out there to find? The only thing I want is a Mesa biome that I can ruin through over mining the clay. But that's not really necessary anyway since we already have 2 Mesas and I doubt anyone would mind much if I take a tiny island out of it or something like that.
The borders of the map are fom 6000 to -6000 but they used to be 4000 and some people like Big Mek Dattrukk or Anvildude seemed to have chosen their location with that border in mind. That's who I was thinking of when I asked.

ideas for all of us. We could build this quite easily.

Make a proper north exit where the 'cobblestone door' is.
Put some signs up for where your portal is if you have one that is. I couldn't find it, I took a boat from Anvildudes.
Move your farms and animal paddocks outside, you're place feels so cramped.
Release all your prisoners and let them roam free. I joke. There are only 2 kinds of village. Caged or dead. (now someone will tell me they have a free village)
Put in more ramps/ladders to gain some altitude so I can see where I'm standing. Wide open places don't need this but all your trees and walls so close together obstruct vision.
Make a big portrait off map (or on map, whichever) then put it on a map item to use as a banner for your cult. Actually if you have a design, maybe I'll do it for you.
Make a destroyed chapel to one of the other players gods near your own temple.
Got enough materials? I can knock down a mountain for you. I find progress is extremely fast when you have all the material you need, almost creative mode speed. As I saw when assisting Grey Templar or building East Tunnel. If you allow me to use the 3 pools of lava in the desert I can make stone bricks or glass as well.

Yeah. I need to do that :
Thanks for the tips the trees and farms and the wool farm I need to move outside. The pigs in my house I plan on moving and building another farm. And get rid of the one previously. I originally made it cramped because of the little amount of space I had to work with before.
Well if it's just sand/sandstone/glass I'll do it for free. If it's cobblestone/brick then I'll dig at diamond level, mine any valuables with a fortune 3 pick, let you take as much as you want out of your lands spoils and leave me the rest or nothing, whichever. Just point me to a mountain to clear for sand or a spot for me to dig straight down for stone.
Really I just like helping people mine common blocks to get big projects done.
I'd like sandstone, sand, and cobblestone. If you insist on not just taking all the valuebles, some iron and/or diamonds would be appreciated, along with emeralds (I have live villagers, after all).
Take 2/3rd of all diamonds, 1/2 of all emeralds, 1/3 of all iron half of all the gold should you do so, and keep everything else (redstone and lapis, phah )!
alright, but I'm going to sleep right now so if there's any particular area you want me to hit just tell me where it is and I'll do it tomorrow, otherwise I might just go after the mountain I like the least.
Lotet wrote: alright, but I'm going to sleep right now so if there's any particular area you want me to hit just tell me where it is and I'll do it tomorrow, otherwise I might just go after the mountain I like the least.
That mountain, and the one to the right of it, would be my choice too. If possible, please make sure any surviving NPC's don't attempt to escape or get killed
A bed can be found here, along with a tree farm as you might see Food can be taken from Fort Kiip's farms, a bit to the south. Your hard shall not be forgotten, and the temple shall include a shrine to the glorious Saint Lotet. Huzzah, huzzah!
If you want, Lotet, go ahead and mine for cobble and dirt inside the Grey Mesa's basement. You should be able to figure out where, I imagine. Just don't bust the pillars.
Then you'd both be getting resources for others, and helping clear area for me!
I'm just on the FtB a lot right now. Once I get my temple set up there, I'll probably be back to the vanilla server again.

How about here? http://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/-141/64/209/-1/0/0 It'd probably be big enough, is right near spawn so no hazards to reach it and isn't going to get in the way of anything else. Once my fort towers are finished I'd like to take a break from building the rest of it, so would be happy to join in a project for an exchange building at spawn, but don't want to steal the project from anyone else if they have grand plans. At the very least I can help contribute resources towards it

I am running low on resources. But I do have a ton of dark oak saplings and wood.
I can provide a little.
What I mean is I haven't gone on an expedition for a while and currently working on a project.

Having just finished Bioshock Infinite and the Burial at Sea DLC, I kinda want to build Rapture and Columbia.
I'm also fantasising about building wargaming boards for Rapture and Columbia to play In Her Majesty's Name.

I think we should build a PVP combat Arena there, not a hub for 'showrooms'. (A few weeks ago we were mooting the idea of a community arena).
Sounds like what you have in mind is something similar to Suburbia. A compact neighbourhood of complex and well decorated buildings?
Also, I'd like to bring this up again. I abandoned my original settlement, Jericho. There are a large number of vegetable animal and tree farms, a partially built village, a huge store room, nether portal link to the Nether Hub (with a rail link from Jericho to the portal, and a rail link inside the Nether from Jericho to the Cadian Gate), stables, sleeping quarters, a large partially built decorative pyramid, huge underground branch mines, a huge network of well lit but mined out caves caverns and chasms...
Seeing as I'm not using it anymore, I'm more than happy for anyone to settle in Jericho and make it their own, or it could be used as a Community settlement for anyone to use...New players etc.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: Theres a large dense forest over the river to the West of spawn. That might be a better place for the arena - especially if its done in a crude wooden style, it would blend right in to the forest and have a nice theme.

Exchange for what? I'd rather do it for free. I end up benefiting every time. Even if it's just swiping the dirt I dug up for Anvildude ages ago, which I use to fill in caves beneath my area. No one asks for help from anyone anyway. Well, except for the below example.

Only problem is that it requires a lot of transportation. Plus last time I was in your basement I was attacked by a Zombie, it aint safe. Then again, a Creeper blew up thenoobbomb's tent outside the temple when I was using a chest so it aint safe there either.
But yeah I did consider using your place as a quarry.
Speaking of which I was also attacked by a Creeper at Storm Lord's castle (did not explode). He should recheck the light values of the place. Was it built back when light was listed at head height? Because now light level is listed at foot height and it says he has gaps along the interior walls.

I checked it out a while ago, what a mess. Looks like the Villagers escaped and someone tried to pin them all down by boxing them all in with dirt. They can't move. I was also jumped by a spider inside. It's saddening how much it has fallen into disrepair.
thenoobbomb wrote: the temple shall include a shrine to the glorious Saint Lotet. Huzzah, huzzah!
Well I didn't fully tear down the mountain. I got a large chest of Sand, 2 large chests of Sandstone and 2 large chests of Cobblestone, plus the mined loot, which I've already taken my share from. I don't know if it's enough so if you need more (or you really want me to finish off that mountain) just tell me.
I should probably mention that I was worried about the village getting in trouble so I built an Iron Golem for them. The village chest has materials for a second Golem if you want it. I hope there's no potential downside to this.
Unrelated, I feel lucky having a village where the Villagers DON'T all decide to cram into one building. How come every village I visit (except the desolate ones), all the villagers only use one house?

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I'll look into why that happened as I haven't had any issues with creepers inside the base recently. Was it a specific wall that had the problems?

The Creeper was on the ground floor coming out of the walls of of the main building interior. I believe that the torches are stretched just enough to give 1 Block at light level 7 against the wall. Though I didn't check every spot.

The first section of the Temple of the Holy Kiip has hereby been opened! The Shrine of the Hallowed Saint Lotet is located on the left hand side of the temple, and is a place for silent contemplation and prayer (to the Kiip), along with blood sacrifices. Any person is invited to attend. The Church of the Holy Kiip is prohibited to change the features found inside at any given time. Additional decorations may be added in the future.
Out of interest whose Nether Portal is this? I can't see any indicators on the map or a base nearby. I only ask as I had plans to expand to that island once I finish a few things on the fort, but don't want to do so if someone else has claimed it but not begun work yet
Hey, Overlord Thraka, did you already know you had a Zombie spawner?
Spoiler:
I swiped the loot from the chest. It had a bread, a bucket, Iron Horse Armour and 4 copies of C418-13. Terrible music, but it makes me want to make a spooky place for it.
Want one? It's just spooky ambient music. The chest is sitting in front of Overlord Thraka/LordBean123 gate. He's probably not here. I think he returns on Wednesday or Thursday.

The only nearby portals are the Jungle Portal here and the folks around here. Top one being Desubot's Fortress and the bottom one being... Mountain Crown I think. They all have portals connected to North Tunnel.

Why don't you just camp there? Clear out part of forest light it all up, and just wait for them to spawn?
I went to check up on the area the wolves were and Shadow Captain Edithae was there. He's gone crazy. He has built a series of towers and burnt down the forest. I hung out for a while till he left.
Apparently he left to walk his dog in a thunderstorm (IRL).

He's amassing an army of wolves to destroy the lands of players. His first action as a new Wolf Lord was to chase a cow off a cliff and laughed at the sight.
I had found a pack of 4 wolves for him, he tamed 3 and slew the last, likely for insubordination.

wolf will not teleport: If the wolf has been ordered to sit[2] Exception: The wolf is likely to teleport if it is injured while sitting (it will no longer be sitting after it teleports). A dramatic example is if a wolf sitting outside is struck by lightning, in which case they will be on fire when they appear. If the wolf is in a minecart If the player is swimming or riding a boat in deep water; a wolf will only teleport as the player approaches land or shallow water one block deep (if the player travels long distances on water, whether with or without a boat the wolf(s) will not teleport upon reaching land, if they were left on a chunk that was unloaded). If there are only transparent blocks (like ice, glass) around the player If the player enters a portal and travels to the Nether or the End, instead remaining in the Overworld until the player returns. However, wolves can be transported to the Nether or End by pushing them into the portal first. If the player is flying a certain distance above the land If the wolf is tied by a lead If the player teleports If the wolf is in a confined space and cannot see the player

Second one is Sacred Mountain (blame Sleitusmithr for the confusing name ) following the signposts to the Mountain Crown (also helpfully on the Northern Nether Arm) will take you to the wrong place ... though of course you're very welcome to visit.
By the way, would anyone object if I did the following (no promises on when, just checking that it's okay in theory) in the Jungle:
Make the portal area safe. No firm idea on style at the moment but probably more wood and glass than stone, and not terribly big or fancy.
Build a treehouse. Probably not a vast build, just a few platforms with the basic necessities and an awesome view. Ideally I'd like to build quite close to the portal (to save me cluttering the Nether with another one) and once built would be community property.

Yeah that would be cool, a series of huts above/amongst the tree canopy, linked by bridges.

Man, everyone who enters that tunnel for the first time gets lost. It's ridiculous. I'd want to hook up North tunnel with East tunnel but North tunnel is already linked with West tunnel and sometimes it's a nightmare.

Sure, that'd be great. No more worrying about what's waiting on the other side. Last time, I got out, placed down a bed, slept, immediately picked up the bed, put down a boat, sped away and turned back to see a creeper had already started chasing me.
You make me sad Edithae I decided to take the land rout to my base today and found 6 or 7 wolves, though I only had enough bones for 1. If you haven't gotten your wolves back, you might want to try exploring areas that haven't been discovered or have only been traveled once before. Maybe all the passive mobs that don't despawn are preventing the wolves from spawning. Or maybe you could just try to wipe out every living thing you see to free up spawning space. The first method seems to work, since that is how I've found all wolves, the second is only a guess.
Unfortunately for you, there doesn't seem to be any unexplored wolf biomes anywhere near you.
its ok, I figured out the problem. My wolves wouldn't follow me through the portal, and by I returned to my base in the overworld, the jungle chunk where my wolves were waiting by the portal was unloaded.
Luckily another person was online at the time and agreed to go to the jungle portal to force a chunk reload , at which point the wolves teleported to my location. IIRC it was Storm Warrior that helped me - thankyou!

Secondly, a birch forest isn't exactly difficult to come by. I can't find the area that's been burned on the sever map, but what I could find were a lot of birch trees, so I don't really see the problem.

Yes, I did, since there was nothing to suggest that you weren't - hell, the addition that 'someone burned down a birch forest' didn't exactly scream "I'm not taking this seriously".
My avatar is a clothed chimp at a typewriter, but that doesn't automatically mean everything I say is a joke; that's just a coincidence.

Thanks mate. Looks nice. Reminds me that I should put more glass in my designs.
yes that was me. But I had my reasons.
I was frustrated with the utter lack of Wolves, I must have spent hours wandering through Taiga biomes looking for Wolves. I concluded that wandering around was futile and a more methodical approach was required, so I burned down lots of trees to give longer sight lines (the area was pretty dense with trees and hills that blocked Line of Sight) and started building some watch towers.
But then somebody else found some Wolves and alerted me to the location (Was that you? Thanks whoever it was, I have >15 through breeding now ) so the entire exercise was rendered somewhat pointless. There is however now a cabin in the area available for use as a public shelter.
And I burned down the small area of Jungle to create a path through it.
But have no fear, I have no intention of burning down the entire jungle.
Heh, cool. Those have been something I've been looking out for since I saw them on FtB. That and they're an incentive not to waste Diamond Armour spelunking and a way of showing off all the gold you've collected. It'd be nice if you could make them look like training dummies and make a sort of gym (ie using brown rugs as stand ins for mats), youknow like the ones in Oblivion. The minecart movement thing would turn them into decent targets for archery.

The minecart movement thing would turn them into decent targets for archery.
And damn, I fething love Red Sandstone.
Yeah I saw that too, I was like Minecraft needs this in vanillia. But I realized how rare red sand is ;.;

Mesa biomes are rare but as far as the restrictions go my understanding is basically "build but don't strip-mine." In other words pretty much the same rules as anywhere else but with the added proviso that we not bugger up the aesthetics of the area.

I kinda sorta levelled a mesa hill a while back in order to get hardened clay easily, which is the same as going through a desert for sand and sandstone...

I think Mesa's spawn less though.
I am just saying.
But I can see the equalivent as clay is stupidly hard to find.... (Fix that mojang shesh)

Yeah even then. I don't like chewing up the landscape. Hence why I usually use cobblestone, netherrack for my builds.
Tearing up the landscape? Look at this swamp: https://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/2765/64/-4872/-1/0/0 I dug up 4 stacks of bricks worth of clay. You wouldn't notice unless you were looking for it. If I filled in the holes with dirt it'd look more natural than if I left the clay there.
Just got this game on PS3, so anyone here wants to partake in some fun with me feel free to add me. PSN is Deadshot2802. Make sure you say you are from Dakka and want to play Minecraft or I won't add you.
I'm in the middle of building Palace of Pimps. Anyone who likes Achievement Hunter and/or Roosterteeth with get it.
Goody! I found a new Mesa Biome!
It starts about here: https://www.darkinnit.com/newdakkamap/#/-3480/64/-5796/-6/0/0 though when the Dakka map reloads tomorrow, I doubt you would have needed me to point it out, since it's massive... well, it felt massive when I was walking and sailing around it. I ended up loading more of the map than I planned to.
This mesa biome is well over 1000 blocks onto the dakka map so everyone will be able to see it. Does anyone mind if I declare that it be a public biome with the purpose of letting anyone mine it as much as they want? If no one minds I'll probably build a portal to it and maybe Binidj will build another shelter, maybe tomorrow.

It would be good to tear down and share with the server. But we need some beacon blocks to make the process quicker.

YUS! The new mesa appears to be bigger than the other 2 existing mesa combined. That should make it a worthy place for beacon mining.

I saw that!
Yeah, let me know how to get to it and I'll have a think.
By the way, this has probably been asked and answered already (but that's the problem with mono-threaded discussions ) what are the plans with regard to switching to 1.8? There are so many new toys to play with! I am guessing that the plan is to wait until the stable release but what then? Will the server be reset? Or will we just need to explore to find the new materials?
I'm still on v1.7.10. Anyone know when the next update will be rolled out?
Also, I planted a couple farms and a variety of trees at the Jungle portal so visitiors have access to food and a variety of wood. Could do with some Acacia, Birch and Dark Oak though.
Edit: Scratch the birch, just noticed theres a Birch forest right outside the portal.

I have question for darknnit which areas of terrain will be reloaded for the next update? Like where would you think you would place them so we would know where not to build?
Also for the server. ever since its going to be difficult to get a large amount of primsate, anyone want to set up a massive farm for them when they come up with? What we have to do is we have to do what etho has done. Just go back a few pages to see it.

I'm not going to reset the map for 1.8. I only reset for 1.7 because there were such huge changes to terrain and biome generation. A few extra pieces of cobble doesn't justify a map reset.
I don't think I'll reset any areas of terrain (I only said I would if it was absolutely necessary) but if I did, I wouldn't reset anywhere that's been built on. Build where ever you want and when 1.8 does come out just explore a bit for the new stuff.
I had heard mumblings that they were trying to get the ocean temples to generate in old existing chunks from 1.7. If they are, then I won't need to reset any chunks for those and we do have plenty of ocean on this map...

new Terrain aside, will we able to use the new items that are being introduced? The doors, banners etc. Or will the server have to be reset to get those?
Terrain is something that's generated when the world is created or players move into a new area. Items however are up in the air until a player places them. So unless the new items are available exclusively in pre-placed locations when a chunk is spawned the server won't need to be reset. Its just a case of adding new items to the crafting list, something which isn't as much of a bother (though I'd imagine if a couple of hundred new items were added to the lists then maybe that'd mean a reset right? ...Or not).

Alrighty thank you!
I didn't think a map reset was needed. Though, Its going to be interesting hunting down the new stone types and bunnies. I mean there are certain areas that are uninhabited and have not been touched by players, I am looking for non-generated terrain that would be hard to find. As traveling outside the map is not something I enjoy doing.
Oh dear the bunnies. I bet I am going to find an evil bunny my first time.
And yeah we won't be hurting on ocean biomes. But finding a temple would be easy, but farming it will be difficult at first.
Apparently the Map isn't a truthful representation of what's actually been explored, at least in the closer to spawn parts. The map was separately generated based on the seed.

Agreed and have done so, also noted its PC related, as with the changes incoming to the Xbox one and PS4, potentially there could be Dakka based servers on consoles as well.

Only problem with that is it's hosted on whoever makes the worlds Xbox. We could all hang out and just jump between all of our worlds all the time (Not that bad of a thing) But if we wanted a continuous world to work on I as "Admin/Host" (For Example) Would need to leave my Xbox on and the world booted up all the time, or at least during the times people wanted to play.

Thanks for adding those links, I didn't think it was necessary given that the whitelist thread is stickied at the top of the Video Games forum, but I guess they just become a "blind spot" that people gloss over.
A brief Google search seems to suggest it's not currently possible to host dedicated servers for the console versions of Minecraft, and people can only share the worlds from their consoles as DA's Forever has said.
Aye currently its not, not sure it ever will be on PS3 or Xbox 360, but as far as I am aware, it will be a feature on both the next gen versions.
For example, worlds will be hosted in the cloud for Xbox One, allowing anyone to log on regardless of the creator's online presence or not. I think there will be a password system in place as well.
If it does set up as it seems it will, It's very likely I'll set up an Xbox One world for Dakka folks,

Ah, nope. I was chased out by ghasts, which I can't hit at long range because of lag, while making the bridge. Then I got distracted by a village very close to mine who had built on top of a system of caves and hills so I felt compelled to save them from their foolishness. That's all finished now.

In my opinion that does take priority Emeralds > clay
I haven't built the nether side portal yet, for some reason. You just need to head to the end of the North Tunnel and turn left to a staircase that goes up and up into the nether roof. It's just a straight line to the end.
There's 16 Obsidian and a lighter in a chest there, so could you place the portal there please? The tunnel is already aligned z-wise to the surface portal, the x-coordinate should be 471. Also, I intended to make the portal 3x3, so it lines up with future tunnel plans that I may not get around to. Plus I need that portal for quick transit back, though I don't plan to play any more tonight.
Do you think it would have been better to have built the portal amongst the nearby trees?
Yeah, but I only did it for it's own sake. Villager don't often end up with things I find useful. Though 1 is selling Ender Pearls, which is good since every dang Enderman decides to flee from me when I try to fight it, only once did I try to lure one into the water. Is this normal?
Now I need to dig up the village since they chose some very uneven terrain, even got some dirt in one house. The Iron Golem I made for them jumped onto the roof of that house then jumped into the enclosed fenced area behind another house

Thanks, I think I'll jump on to get my character out of the wilderness, which is what Binidj's shelter is for. But now there's no chance of him building on top of me and suffocating me when I log in.
My daughter wants to install some sort of mod that turns it into some variation of Pokemon - Pixelmon?
It seems as if the mod is full of spyware, bloat, trackers, etc.
Is this not the case, and I'm just over-reacting?
Is there a 'safe' place to download 'safe' versions of Minecraft stuff?
Well, I doubt you would have clicked the big green START DOWNLOAD Free Version at the top of the Pixelmon sites pages, which is where problems can come from.
Otherwise, all signs point to downloading from this page. Ignoring the big green download banner.

Though I've gotten adware from freeware before.
Does the mod actually work for you?
Basically. Sometimes we misclick and click the wrong thing its understandable. A mod usualy does not have a virus on it.

Yes, if you break it it keeps its data (keeps the skin). It just looks like a plain "Steve" head in your inventory, but when you place it back in the world again it will show your current skin.

Banners will be fun. I kinda wish that putting multiple banners with the same pattern directly next to one another would combine them into one big banner.
Asherian Command wrote: Question anyone think that emeralds are going to be a very easy commodity to get?
They're so easy to get, you can easily build the emerald city.
Unless something changes
librarians start off by trading paper, so make a sugar farm.
smiths start by buying coal
butchers start with buying raw chicken, or porkchops.
fishermen buy string
sheperads buy wool
letherworkers buy hide
and farmers buy wheat, which you can make wheat farms so the farmer harvests the wheat, then you trade him the wheat for the emeralds.
The best though is, all priests have a first trade of zombie meat, make a mob farm and then zombies get you a near infinite source of emeralds, red stone, lapis, and glow stone.
they're not hard to get, just catch some zombies til you get some zombie villagers, then a weakness potion and a golden apple later and you have a villager. Get 2, build a town, keep trading until you have all the villagers you want.
Desubot wrote: Oh right i should probably make some new villager types..
Did they mess with breeding at all? (should i dismantle my basement orgy room?)
ya they did, they mostly don't auto breed anymore. You need a farmer and a field for him to work to keep him happy and in the mood. All other villagers you have to trade with them to get them in the mood. Then it's the same old formula of village size, and random chance to breed.
Or if you understand and watch DOCCM on youtube, he's figured out something like the old breeder system for a trader hall.
What are you going to put in the dirt in the middle? A monument? A flaming pyre? A garden?
How about getting any old and worn weapons from storage and put them in item frames around the hall.
Put some banners made of wool hanging from the walls. Or even hang them from the roof, maybe with fence posts at the top so it looks like it's hanging from rope. Maybe even get some other players banners, like Cantium's EX FERRO VIS, which google translate says means "from steel force"
Spoiler:
Place a long dining table in there, just like the mead halls.
Wrangle and name tag a golden zombie and put it into a cage. Tell people how it was once an Old King, a Great Warrior or a Powerful Enemy that has been laid low. I like the thought that there used to be an old Kingdom on the site of your fortress, then you came along, slew the previous ruler and imprisoned all the villagers.
Speaking of dead warriors. You could put a chest beneath one of the weapon plaques and fill the chest with bones in a pattern with some old armour in there as well. Maybe even with an underhall if you want to take it a bit further.
Why wait? We have no idea how long it will be till 1.8 comes out. It could be 1 month, it could be 9. Might as well fill that empty white hall now. Those banners/stands are only 2 blocks big, you don't even need to save space for them, there will be plenty left.
Unless you really just intend to fill the hall with small banners and armour stands...

They are fallen hero statues. The point is that the banners represent where they came from and who they were. So an armor and a banner.

I know, well, I guessed. But that still leaves a lot of wall space. Are you going to put up a lot of mannequins on higher shelves, fill it with something else of leave the higher walls bare? There's a limit on how many ways you can mix armor to look nice.

Mate I get your trying to help but. I already have planned out the building from top to bottom. There are lots of ideas I do not share, until they are completed. Such as the door frames and the way I do certain things. I am planing on building a stone statue there instead of just leaving it blank. And windows of course to bring in some light to the hall. I am just planning out the details and using my expertise in building floor plans along the way.

Well I originally wanted an idea for a statue type of idea. The statues themselves were going to be something else. I mean my major thing is how would i shape it. Should I do it cathederal like all that. I still have to do it in my style and the playstyle that fits me so, I will have to make it look interesting and dynamic. I mean you can see with the towers that those were attempts at making a dynamic structure.
I might take suggestions but I might not, Sorry i was rude, I had just woken up from a terrible. TERRIBLE hotel bed. And woke up quite cranky at the world for giving me a terrible hotel to stay in before I move into my apartment.
But yes I will take suggestions as is. I have a certain plan out, but it is too early for me to take them as the buildings outside is not even close to being complete
As I plan on adding windows and trying to add giant windows to make it less blocky. How I do that I have no idea.
Gothic. Arches, that is. Use upside-down stairs on ether side of a 2 wide window, or a 3 wide window with a built in arch at the top.
One of the problems that makes everything so blocky in minecraft is that people have a tendancy to build either laterally or cubically- either making things long and low, or building them so they have similar dimensions up and sideways. However, if you build further up than you do sideways, it tends to give a more grand or graceful look to your construction.

So would you suggest making the building taller? So that way it is larger and more grander?
I will be using emerald in the build to spice it up.
its a bit hard to see but I use a combination of arches and inset crenellations to add some depth to my otherwise flat structure. also throwing in another material type can help you to create some different visuals.
Asherian Command wrote: So would you suggest making the building taller? So that way it is larger and more grander?
I think it's more about the proportions than just the size. You can also use false-perspective to make a build narrower at the top than it is at the bottom (with smaller but similarly-shaped features) to make a structure look taller than it actually is. Real world cathedrals quite often use this trick to enhance the sense of height both inside and out.

Hmm. Could I use an example of this. I built my building on a hill and gave the impression it was tall.

This is for the public mesa quarry, portal is signposted from the end of the North Branch of the Nether hub.

You can take all of mine. At the end of North Tunnel there should be a chest with about 75 blocks worth of quartz. So not much, but if you don't end up using it all you can take the rest, as thanks. Also the Stone and Bricks, you can use that as well if you want.
Which is why I've been offline for a while. Waiting for the changes to come in then build a new exciting building for my village... Hopefully using some of the new item's etc... Unsure whether castle or church should be built first and where... Hmmmm much planning must be done now... Off to the land of creative to see what kind of shape I can fit where....
I just want to make people aware that I won't update the server immediately to 1.8 as soon as it's out on Tuesday. Although their use of snapshots and pre-releases has done a lot to help find major bugs before release, there's often still something that doesn't show up until much vaster numbers of people are playing it.
Mojang are releasing it on a Tuesday for this same reason, so they have most of the rest of the week to fix any issues that pop up. Whether there are any problems or not, the new update should hopefully be nice and stable by Friday evening (whether it is 1.8 or 1.8.2 or 1.8.11 by then)
So I will aim to update the server either Friday evening or early Saturday morning next week.
