I'm a fairly persnickety Tolkien fan and find the game fits into the setting quite faithfully so far.

"Magic" plays a limited role in Shadow of Mordor. First off, Talion and Celebrimbor are bound by some kind of blood sacrifice/black magic -- for which practice I believe there is some precedent in Tolkien; although it is might only be darkly hinted at and in work subsequent to RotK (the unfinished & unpublished sequel). Second, the powers you use are not really OTT -- no shooting fireballs around or any of that. They are limited to plausibly wraith-like applications.

Actually, those powers all belong to Celebrimbor. If you know who he is, you won't have any issue with him being fairly powerful -- especially in wraith-form.

Well that's something of an endorsement, then. From the trailer it looked completely overdone and implausible in the setting, but watching a gameplay video clears a lot of that up. Might just have to get it after all.

Mucking about in Saints Row 3 lately. Finished the storyline recently, with the good ending, and now I'm running around going for map completion and trying not to use any of the broken weapons from the DLC. Playing a female Boss with voice #1, because I can never get tired of hearing Laura Bailey talk. There's a reason Serana is my favorite NPC in Skyrim, after all.
Also been hitting Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 off and on, again. Beat one story mode (the bad guy one) and am sorta working on the good guy story mode, but I've run into the part where you have to play through seven or so missions, each with a different pilot (most of whom I've never used before because I don't like them). So I've got to take seven guys, all at level one, and run through mid-tier difficulty missions in mobile suits I've never used before (with attack patterns that I don't know) and somehow work up some kind of level of excitement for it... No thanks, Koei. Just let me pick Haman Karn in her ZZ outfit and run her through the whole story mode, instead of this schizophrenic character switching business, ok? Or heck, bring back Sleggar Law and I'll play him, instead.
Milan, Sicily and HRE are donkey-caves. They keep attacking me, then they get excommunicated, then they just go "feth it" and keep attacking me.
The refuse ceasefires, except for Sicily, who offers a ceasefire, then attack 3 turns later.
So yeah, I'm going to start executing the lot of them.
I've been playing M2 a bit recently, too. One thing to note is that Milan are essentially a superpower. Their militia are a lot better than even a fair whack of most factions' early and mid-game professional units, and their Genoese crossbows are great at range but also ridiculous in melee; never charge a unit of them unsupported, even cavalry, because you'll lose. If you have enough points with the Pope then it mighthe be worth calling for a crusade on the Milanese capital or one of their cities you can't quite reach, and let the other Catholic factions draw some heat off you.
It's going to be a bit difficult dealing with Milan when you have the HRE and Sicily nipping at your heels, but Milan is your main target and will only get stronger if left alone.
EDIT: Also, don't execute prisoners if you're struggling with several factions already. It lowers your relations with everyone very quickly and should only be used sparingly, otherwise you'll find most of Christendom on your case and marching against you.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 1 was an unfinished mess. Stay as far away from it as you can.
DWG 2 was a favorite for me, since it had more UC Gundam characters and mobile suits, and mostly focused on the UC Gundam storylines. The addition of actual space battle maps was a good touch.
DWG 3 is fun, don't get me wrong, but it handles a bit different than 2 did. Health restoring item drops are really rare, but that's ok, since your health regenerates (to a % of damage taken). Of course, the bad guy's health regenerates, too. So you have to focus fire on them and beat them down to keep them from healing themselves. That's a new mechanic. There is a partner system, where you pick a sidekick before the battle, then that person doesn't show up as an npc during the battle... but if you get a certain item or control a certain battlefield area, you can summon them to deliver a big attack. Dropping Puru Two in the Queen Mantha on top of a boss is lots of fun. Which reminds me, instead of nondescript color-coded areas of the map to capture, the game now has color coded areas of the map with special features that affect the battle. Some areas make your mooks fight better, some spawn allied NPCs, some increase the rate and amount of your auto-heal, etc. Lots more stuff from alternate universe Gundam series... Wing, 00, SEED, etc. Some of the suits have nice move sets, but I shrug my shoulders at the characters, generally. The space maps got removed and replaced by ground maps with a starry sky, which was a bit of a bummer. The story mode is a mess of characters from the different shows and different timelines (Haman Karn sitting in a room with a teenaged Mineva Zabi is a little weird, especially since Mineva doesn't drop a "didn't I see you die" bomb in convo) all end up in the same fight and stuff happens. The highlight for me was Char Aznable coming face to face with Full Frontal and saying "You know, I never realized how ridiculous I looked till I saw someone else trying to dress like me." There are DLC characters and suits to get, but most of them are from 00, so I skipped them. I did pick up Marida Cruz from Unicorn and her Kshatriya, which both wreck face, but she doesn't pop up in story mode or in the random fights.
On-topic, I've been playing Black Flag more lately,
Is this a game based off the TV pirate series? #intrigued
No, it's one of those Assassin's Creed games.
Although it's perfectly possible to play for hours on end and not even touch the Assassin's Creed side of it, just raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer your weasly black guts out.

Is it normal for the AI to never ceasefire, and just eat excommunications?
I keep trying to make peace with the AI, and they want ridiculous stuff in return.
squidhills wrote: Dynasty Warriors Gundam 1 was an unfinished mess. Stay as far away from it as you can.
I've got the first one, and enjoyed it. The story missions can be a bit annoying at times, largely due to the "let's switch you to a brand new (unleveled) mobile suit!" type of stuff that happens from time to time. And Judau sounds like he's got gravel in his mouth when he talks.
But from what I've heard, the later ones are better. I've been meaning to pick them up for a while now, but never quite seem to get that done.
Unfortunately, I don't have much to compare it with. The only two other DW games that I've got are Samurai Empires 2 (think Nobunaga's Ambition, with the battles resolved via DW-style battles), and the first Fist of the North Star game.

Very much so. In my current game, France declared war on me by besieging Bordeaux (which I nicked off Spain when their reinforcements couldn't reach it before the rebels inside beat back to initial siege). I'd been waiting for this and my spies in Angers and Rheims opened the gates for me to take both of them (although I miscalculated the travel distance to Rheims from Antwerp, so instead of assaulting in the same turn as Angers I was forced to assault one turn later - there's a reason why this is bad). Then I was hit by the usual Excommunication threat from the Pope, and since I was 2 crosses more in favour with him than France (5 vs 3) I assumed France would have to abandon the siege too, giving me time to re-build my forces, train a new assault squad, throw my spies into their remaining settlements and go for another 1-turn sweep. But that didn't happen. 3 Turns after the threat France are still sieging Bordeaux and showing no signs of stopping any time soon. I assume they'll be excommunicated for it at some point, but it's already fethed with my plans and I can't be sure if and when they will be excommed. If I try and ceasefire now, even though my military might is Supreme and theirs is probably Meagre (given that their only force is besieging Bordeaux, and is mainly Pilgrims leftover from the crusade I beat them to), and they only have Toulouse, Marseilles, and Paris left, and they're dirt poor, and as soon as my threat goes I can march right into Paris and Marseilles on account of my spies opening the gates, they'll want huge amounts of money, and very likely the lands back that I took from them.
The AI only ever offers a ceasefire when it knows it can come back in a few turns and do it again, and uses it as an excuse to have their stack sit next to your castle/city for forever and a day because there's nothing you can do about it. You might also get a ceasefire when they have one or two settlements left, no army to speak of, and you rule half the world, but those are the times when you just mash Decline and put them down at your leisure. At the times when it would be sensible to offer/accept a ceasefire, the AI will be contrary and never do it.
With excommunications, it never does the AI any harm. I've played a lot of games when factions get excommunicated over and over and over again (*cough* Milan *cough*), and they never suffer from it; nobody attacks them for it, but they can still carry on regardless. If YOU are excommunicated, however, in true "AI hates Humans" fashion, you will become the target of Crusades and literally everyone will line up to thump you. There are only two times when it's fine to be excommunicated, and they are: 1) When you own Europe and have beaten most of the Christian factions, and 2) You're in a position to assassinate the pope, since every faction is reconciled following a papal election.

I enjoyed Samurai Warriors 2: Empires more than I probably should. I played that thing to hell and back, I think I logged more hours in that than in vanilla Samurai Warriors 2.
...which reminds me, I got a Japanese import version of SW 3: Legends for the PS3 I need to play more of.

Well that's dumb. Is there a mod that can fix that? Seems to be very unfairly weighted against the player.

What faction are you playing as if I may inquier?
When they get exomunicated, make sure to hit them hard, either wipe out an army or three. or capture a town or castle.
And well, only do that if you feel like making a lot of new enemies rather fast
France. I got attacked, retaliated and everyone hates me now.
Except for Poland. They are cool.
Oh dear.... France well that is your problem, they really suffer from a lack of good quiality early and middle period infateri and such.Their cavalry will make up for it, but well wont be the best stop gap. I always try to capture Bern as soon as possible, it gives you the chance to keep Milan at bay
There are mods that include some diplomacy fixes or patches, but most of those are overhauls or rebalance the entire game such as Stainless Steel and Darthmod.
You'll have to grin and bear it, unfortunately.
Look at it this way, at least you're not playing as the HRE; they tend to end up facing Milan, France, Venice, Denmark, Poland, and the Byzantines as the player. If you can take Caen from the British, and take Bordeaux early on, then as France you only really need to fear Milan and perhaps the HRE. If you leave Antwerp as a rebel settlement then the HRE might nab it, creating a buffer between you and Denmark.
If you focus all your efforts on Milan after eliminating Caen then you should be able to concentrate on the HRE. With Spain blocked by 2 castles and left to deal with Portugal and the Moors, England left without their mainland foothold and dealing with Scotland, Denmark dealing with HRE and Poland, and Venice dealing the HRE and Byzantines, you should be pretty much in the clear for a good while and find yourself just North of the Papal States, allowing for a good trade route and easy access for your butt-kissers Diplomats. Gifting the Papal States a few hundred gold each turn will keep your relationship strong, and an Alliance with them is always good to have.
And I think it's less you and more the fact that the game pretty much expects you to get out of the plane by jumping.
Thank you.
And to be fair to the game, that is a reasonable expectation.
My first near success at landing was pretty fun, in that it involved me feeling quite pleased at having touched down, and then staring as the plane skidded off the edge of a cliff. Good times!
carlos13th wrote: Have to be honest I dont remember ever attempting to land a plane. Helicopter sure but not a plane.
It's worth trying! It might not seem as fun as exploding in a fiery wreck, but it's pretty neat to get one of those big cargo planes to glide safely to the ground.
Plus, if it doesn't glide safely, you get to explode in a fiery wreck.

Definitely. Not something I'd want to repeat after doing once mind you, but it's a good test of skill, and the game's controls are responsive enough that it's actually skill and not patience that's being tested.

Played Crusader Kings 2's free weekend for a little bit... has potential, but iunno. takes too long for a smaller kingdom or a vassal to be able to do anything, and I'm not sure I want to pla ya bigger one given the complexity...

It's games that are 40 gigabytes in size with nothing to show for it that's a problem.

Growing up, I had the AWESOME connection speed of a 56k modem (meaning it went up to 56k, not that you necessarily got all that... just as today, even though I'm paying for a 10Mb connection, I don't get 10Mb speed all the time)
No, no. It's like an old SNES game that's had several remakes. I don't know if any of the other versions made it outside japan though.
There was a PS1 version a while back. That's the one I have, and I play it off and on. I love the "hidden" character classes, like the Lich and Angel Knight, and have fond memories of the first time one of my favorite healers died to an arrow shot, only to respawn in a column of white light, sporting wings and a halo.

About once a year, a dark and unholy urge comes upon me.
It is impossible to resist.
I have reinstalled the Sims 3.

Picked up Final Fantasy IV a few days ago. Easily my fave FF game. Granted £10.99 was a bit much for such an old game but I know I'll get my moneys worth from it.

My girl spends ungodly amounts of time in that game, usually making either the X-Mansion or the Hall of Justice and all the requisite characters.
Had a rough day and decided to play some TF2. Went on Man vs Machine. Luckily the people on the server were very friendly and the pre-game moments were filled of people yelling at invisible engineers to build sentries and many people agreeing they were indeed, spies. That game's been really good cheering up my loneliness these days. Might give it another shot today if I'm feeling lonely again.

You mean like... SimCity? Muahaha!
Though you should check out the older versions of it. 2000 was the one I played, and was amazing. If you had any ability at all with Pixel Art, you could make fantastic buildings in it as well.
Man, I'm old school. I remember when Sim City 2000 was new, and the graphics blew my mind.
Though I was easily impressed back then. And still am now, really.
That's not the kind of game I'm thinking of though. I'm thinking something like a mix of the sims, but where you control the neighborhood rather than a household. Maybe something a bit like Dwarf Fortress, but you know, minus all the magma and misery.
I had an epic game of Sins of A Solar Empire: rebellion tonight.
I found a mod that makes fixed starting positions, which made the game SO much better. As I was able to hang out with my more newbie mate (I say, more newbie, because I'm still pretty pants at the game.)
We tried things a bit simpler now, with only having 1 opponent that's a 'hard' AI with the rest of the enemies being normal aggressive.
We've spent most of the night now wiping our the normals, leaving us in control of a little less than half the galaxy or so.
Except, we're now pretty sure that the Hard AI has the rest of it.
Methinks we've got a big fight on our hands when we resume.

On a whim, I decided to take a peek on the PSN store to see what the prices were on DWG 2 and 3. But it appears that neither one is available that way. Disc copies only. There's a new DWG game, though - Reborn - that just came out this summer and is available.
Since Reborn is PS only, the 360 store doesn't even have that. Reborn is the only DWG game that's PS only, though. My copy of the first DWG game is for the 360. 2 and 3 were released on that console as well.
I'm not sure whether Koei had the earlier games up and then pulled them, or whether Reborn is the only one that's ever been available for download. The downloadable demo for the first DWG game and expansions for the later games are still available.
I am currently playing (simultaneously) through all ofhte Metroid games and Zelda games in chronological order (within the universe). As such, I've just started Metroid Prime and Minish Cap.
Finally destroyed Exalt in my XCom playthrough and holy gak was their based tough; like ten groups of 3-4 guys all with laser weapons and gene upgrades.
Thankfully, the game auto-saved afterwards (I always breathe a sigh of relief when that happens). Didn't lost a squad mate, took some hits on my MEC trooper but with the excess of health he gets from the MEC suit he didn't have any down time.
Also, on a whim, I started playing the Age of Empires 2: HD update thing that was on Steam. It brought back so many memories, and I realized just how forward thinking that game was when it came out.

I got Tropico 3 the other day for free from the Humble bundle. Not sure if that is the best one to start with, but it fulfills my dream of being a Latin American dictator.
I started Borderlands 2 yesterday (got it in a Steam deal for $30, including all the DLC). It's pretty fun. I don't like having to check over all my equipment every time I find a new gun/shield, but otherwise it's fun.
I'm getting kind of bored. Anybody up for playing any of the 'Wargame' series, 'xcom: enemy unknown' or 'within' or anything else really. I've pretty much been getting bored of skyrim again even with the DLC content.
Picked Battlefield 4 back up for a bit over the weekend. As much as I preferred BF3 more, I still had fun. I do wish I had the fancy-edition with all the DLC, though...
Darkest of Days. Meh. It's average, but it's the only FPS that lets you play during the US Civil War. Man, I want more of those. No stupid BRRRRT BRRRRRRT BRRRRRT automatic weapon spray, but single-loaded muskets where every single shot counts, you marching in a huge formation instead of being a one-man army...hmpf.
And it's not like they don't have their choice of setting. American Civil War, Napoleanic War, Boer War, etc. etc.
Problem there becomes, who do you make the 'bad guys'? It's pretty easy with World War titles- just make the Germans the baddies- or Cold War Soviets. They're not around any more. But Napoleon was winning until Russia (and do you want to be on the losing side for most of the game?), neither side really won in the Civil War, anything connected to South Africa is a bit of a hotpoint...

I've always thought it would be cool/amazing to have a "Battlefield: Somme" game, where it was set up similarly to the older BF titles... play as a bog standard infantry bloke, then "bampf" over to an artilleryman, etc. Perfectly coordinating your actions in order to win the game. Obviously, you'd have to be able to switch characters, because sitting there lobbing 20-30 shells per mission, with not sight aids would be quite boring (yet terrifying... no sight aids means you have to really be good with your "aim" or pray you don't hit your own lines)
Ah, proper Artillery gameplay. Not enough games do that, you know? Chromehounds, and it's 'spiritual successor' M.A.V. are just about the only ones I know of that don't hold your hand about lobbing shots over the horizon.

It was interesting at first, but then they ruined it with time travelling.
Using an assault rifle in the Civil War is funny the first time around, but after a while it gets dull.

Does there have to be a bad guy? Wouldn't it be more effective to show both sides as human, in order to show the sheer brutal horror of the trenches?

Put the protagonist under the command of Wellington in Spain.
On another note, I started playing Banished again yesterday. It took a few tries, but I finally got what I felt was a fairly good start on the Hard difficulty. The next challenge will involve building the trade dock and scrounging enough goods for it to purchase seeds and livestock.
My previous attempt was going well until I built my first market. Hopefully I can figure out a workaround for the issues those things cause...
I got pretty sick of Banished eventually. Getting a working town going is fun and all, but I've never been a fan of "you will eventually fail" games, because nothing I do ever feels like an achievement, simply delaying the inevitable. My hard works counts for exactly 0 when the game will always end in failure, be it after 10 minutes, 10 hours, or 10 days.
If you could reach a point in it where you could not fail unless you did it yourself (like destroyed a bunch of buildings or starved all your citizens) then that'd be fine; the time I spent reaching that point, and all the failures I endured doing it, would actually count for something. Perhaps have an AI pick-up on things you're missing like idle villagers, or that you're not getting enough food, and instead of having you manually do everything, once the town reaches a certain size have it become semi-autonomous.
I guess it just feels like a gruelling treadmill of a game, I can run and run and run but in the end, for all my effort, I won't have gotten anywhere.
All of them managing to throw out 4 taunt minions in two turns, and also managing to destroy everything I play in one turn. Goddamnit, nerf this stuff, Blizzard.

Things are stable at the moment, but the community is still small (only nine houses, iirc).
The issue that I had with the market in my previous game is a bit of stupidity on the part of the AI. It appears that once a market is built, the inhabitants automatically look to them to satisfy all of their needs. What was happening was that I had one market built... and the outlying orchard workers and farmers suddenly decided that they needed to cross half the map to visit the market to satisfy their food need, even though they were working (and in some cases living) right next to storage barns that held lots of food. As a result, too much time was spent traveling to the market, which meant that suddenly the orchards and fields weren't getting fully cleared in time before the winter frost. I went from not losing any of my crop (or only losing a very small part of it), to losing about a third of it every year.
Ya I liked Ogre Battle 64 on the N64. There was so much hidden stuff and weirdness.

Speaking of XCOM, has anyone here noticed that the Long War mod uses some of the special maps for random maps? Because it does. And mine chose the Norwegian fishing village map for a terror mission.

It was horrifying.
The Norwegian Fishing village is fething scary normally, I'd hate to see it more than once.
Been playing 'xcom: enemy within' myself. I think i must've gotten rusty as i was pretty freaking good before. That said i was playing on impossible difficulty and i never could do an ironman run of it. I enjoy my sanity too much for that.
Sometimes the random shot rolls are a bit of a pain or the map is rather bad (lack of good cover) or you discover too many enemy mobs at once (key is to never have your squad facing more than 3 at once or at least at game start). I think people are crazy if they need this game to be even harder. Impossible difficulty should be about enough for just about anybody.
I feel like i could still get better at the game but i don't want to scream obscenities loud enough to receive complaints from the neighbors. Hasn't happened yet but i think i've stirred them awake during the night. Yeah i'm pretty bad there.
If anybody wants to play 'xcom: enemy unknown' or 'within' my steam name is: FKM.

On the subject of EXALT they're chumps but they're annoying. Kill the EXALT heavies first and blind snipers with flashbang grenades. Almost hilarious how easy they are. Hacking their relay just makes them even easier. If you couldn't hack the relay they might actually be a challenge. EXALT and their gene therapy definitely seems cool though. I'd totally love playing as EXALT if i could even if it was just a mod or DLC.
I've had to restart my I/I playthrough probably six times since I started a few months ago. I have to play in spurts too, otherwise I'll start drinking heavily to counter my soul-shattering rage at just how annoying the RNG/Seed based system is in Xcom.
Honestly, the hardest part of I/I is making it through the first two months; if you make it through that without losing any countries, have like 60-75% covered by satellites and laser weapons researched...you should be OK. Add in a gene boosted sniper and/or a MEC trooper and you'll be good for the rest of the game.
I finally got a stable run on impossible difficulty so far. A bit of it was luck. They did flank and kill some of my guys though luckily (they saw me, moved into position and then the one sectoid moved again into flanking position which was lame whereas the other dude sniped my sniper with his pistol) i got an alien crash mission when i only had rookies. So far i've been doing ridiculously well with only 4 soldiers. 2nd month just started up. I was also lucky enough that i rolled 2 heavies with this one. 2 of my 4 original guys (3 women and one dude) died in one mission and the other two women managed to kill off the rest of the sectoids with a bit of luck. I should be getting a ton of satellites up for this month and have a lot of money if i survive it. I'm just so glad i had no council missions in month one which i usually had to do. I bet i'll have to face more baddies soon though.
I always remember the first mission where you save the unknown EXALT guy it's rather tough. I'm not looking forward to that mission if i properly clicked it on.

In other news i convinced a friend to get 'endless space' and he seems to like it. Commenting that's "it's good". He mentioned we should get a multiplayer game going when he has the ropes. I'm looking forward to it.
So, Finally got fed up with Dayz. Its unplayable frankly, and it's stopped being a case of "Be okay with people" to shoot on sight because people will just be dicks anyway.
Decided to suicide, because I had geared up, morphine and everything. So went to cherno, shot down a few bambies. Got killed. Logged out and went on the lower count server, got killed by zeds FOUR times, the weather system is stupid, and the whole thing is just laggy as now. Going to log and stay off for a few weeks.
Bought prototype 2 when it was on Steam Sale, a decent, if a bit (well actually very) repetitive, game. I enjoyed how every enemy had a different weakness and that you had to frequently switch up your tactics, the game's strong suit in my opinion.
I think the stealth and traversal had great ideas and solid core principles but the execution wasn't quite there. The traversal didn't flow super well and the stealth was a little bit too arbitrary.
Finally the game was SUPER funny, full of unintentional and intentional humour. An early encounter with a computer is a particular highlight as is a later side mission wherein you slaughter a platoon of troops because one of them left an offensive answer phone message for you.

Getting towards the end of part of the Redcliffe section in Dragon Age Origins. These games always make you make the choice. It's always on you. I know that that's the way it's got to be, but I wish they would at least let the player character get angry about it sometimes.

I wish Bioware learned how to make choices. If to any problem, there always is a perfect solution, then the entire decision is worthless.

MMmmmm.... I disagree. There could be a way to come up with a perfect solution, I just don't think it should be easy or obvious.
My problem is with the arbitrarily attached morality inherent to the system. As if telling the truth is always a good thing and cannot be used in the name of evil or chaos. There needs to be some kind of mechanic created to establish motivation.
I have very mixed feelings about both of those ideas.
I do think that they actually tried for some complexity in this game, with the system of character relationships. Like, the decision that's the right one from one character's point of view might be completely horrible from the point of view of another. It's just not implemented that well. But it's a good idea.

My problem is that if there is a perfect solution to a problem, it automatically makes all other decisions "worse" and not as valuable as the "perfect" one. And yes, I agree, if getting the perfect solution means having Coersion Rank 3 / 4, then that's horrible game design. Let's take the Connor case, for example. In theory, that's a good conflict. Kill the boy? Kill his mother? But this complication is immediately resolved by knowing that the mages might help him out. Oh joy, you would have to go there anyway and ask for their support! No prob, let's just go after them then!
hohoho, now, you might lose all mages if not using the Litandy of Andrella in time! Now, that might be a challenge if you could not pause the game and had tons of time to do so, again, making the choice arbitrary. Everyone wins. Bioware (tm).
My point is that you should think of another way to do it in order to create a challenge; e.g. all mages are rabid from the start of the fight and you have to finish the fight without killing them. This would greatly incorporate the pause mechanism and still include a tactical challenge to the player who can now choose between saving the mages and having a harder fight or killing them for an easier fight.

I think my problem with the "perfect solution" to the connor decision is that there could be negative consequences to it, if they had thought of it. I remember the first time I played the game, I didn't want to go for that solution, because the idea of leaving the situation in limbo seemed wrong. Like, what they could have done was have it be possible for things to completely fall apart in your absence if you took too long, or something similar. I mean, that's what I thought would happen. I don't like games that present you with an extremely urgent situation and then completely derail that urgency.

Well, if you think about the Connor situation, I mean really think about it, there is no perfect solution.
He has magic.
He was possesed.
What will the Templars do when Connor gets sent to the Tower? He is a mage who has already been possesed once. They aren't letting him live once they get him away from his parents. They just straight-up aren't. That kid is a dead man walking.
You can sacrifice his mother to save him in the short term (but he dies in the long term), use the Circle Mages to save him in the short term (but he dies in the long term), sacrifice his mother to gain personal power (make a deal with the demon) or just straight up save everybody a headache and kill the kid while he's posessed. His mother and father can make a new one, after all. That kid is dead no matter what I do. The only question is do I work hard for a meaningless goal, or do I unlock Blood Magic in the skills menu?

I like a lot of the things Radius has done, but some of it feels a little artificial; the super-aggressive AI is normal for any difficulty higher than normal in the base game, but Radius makes building armies significantly cheaper, and significantly increases garrison sizes. Every one-province minor has 3 full stacks and a full garrison, which can make it a bit of a slog sometimes.

Well yeah but there are options better than the ones in 'the witcher' series which are super vague regardless of how much digging you'd like to do or how much you can try to piece together the best outcome for most people.
I think you already mentioned it but i'm more fed up with games that give you an option which depending on your persuasion level people accept it or reject it.
Speech level 1: That's a terrible plan and i disagree to it even though it'd help everybody!
Speech level 100: That's a great decision and while you're at it you can take my lands, have your way with all my daughters (or sons given preferences) and all my belongings while f**king me in the butt (and this is to a poor plan for at least the person at hand)!

Agreed on all acounts, I have been playing as Odesesian kingdom, and its just how wild how many hordes of fellow unwashed barbarians that has meet their bloody demise along my borders. I thankfully have a very good ally in one of my neighbouring kingdoms, and that has saved my bacon. After they managed to take one of the major cities belonging to Macedon. But I find it very hard indeed to have to constantly have to figth two or three stacks each time I want to assult a town or major city. But the mod did one thing rigth, it added way more and better units for all the factions. And that has really helped me when it comes to the whole world conquring thing
Mostly World-of-Tanks.
Upside: it's more than running and shooting, dying and respawn. You have to play well and think about what you do (tactics!) to do well.
Downside: most players are not that good, so you often lose not because of what you do, but what the others don't.
Once and again another older game, but nothing new, Destiny is not what i hoped for either.
Above all i wait for Borderlands The Pre-Sequel... almost here...

Wow really? That surprises me, as no game has made me feel more powerful than the first Prototype. Playing that game was like playing a harder game with all the cheats on.
Haven't played 2 yet. Prototype wasn't too hard though some things were kind of obnoxious. Taking a rocket or two while trying to absorb someone to heal would end you. And the last fight was kind of tedious if not outright hard.
Did feel pretty beastly though.
Gah, restarted fftactics yet again, this time I've trained up my team as mediators (plus what ever other class, talk skill is where it's at though) and have begun plowing through the game telling loads of boring stories to bore my enemies to sleep, inviting anyone and everyone to my party, and stealing the swag off of anyone who's too cool to join the team.
prototype 1/2 are some of my favourite games. which is weird. usually I like being a super heavy one-man-army kind of person. e.g: knight type characters. but in prototype you're ridiculously, addictively nimble.

The boy was tainted and had been having truck with a Daemon. Best to kill him now, to prevent the taint from spreading.
...
It's an RPG. Roleplay your Warden, dammit. Are you a hardliner? A liberal? Do you support the Mages? Do you support the Chantry?
I found in DA2 both sides sucked. Yes, the Templars were jerks but all the mages really were demon bombs ready to explode at any second anyway. It's was a real crapsack.

They were, basically. While I don't think it was directly lifted, I found a lot of parallels between the Imperium and the setting of DA2.
Because, yes, the Mages (just like psykers) *are* just ticking daemon-bombs. It's part and parcel of their being. And, yes, that Templar Leader is a jerk, but I am led to understand that there's a way (fairly early in the game) to set the storyline to go down a path where that ending doesn't happen... I've never been able to do it, though, so it may be internet rumor.
No matter what happens, you'll get a Mage V Templar war, with both sides leaders going crazy. That's just how the story goes.
I've got to say though, I can't really think of anything in Dragon Age that seems particularly GW-ish (although the designers do play Fantasy, I remember them talking about a League for it once, probably started by the WAR guys), but instead Dragon Age owes a lot to Game of Thrones.
Oh, it's worth saying, even though it's mentioned in the actual Dragon Age thread right now. Dragon Age: Origins is now available for free this week on, well... EA Origin.
Prison Architect is strangely really addictive, unfortunately for me I have nearly no money due to 9 prisoners jumping the cooks and escaping out the Staff entrance when I wasn't looking
I've got a stable 'impossible' xcom: enemy within run going on and have gotten to the 4th month. One of my previous ones was pretty much screwed up from something else. I didn't need to reload many saves for the current game i'm in which is rather good. I still feel like i can't do an impossible ironman run or at least with my sanity left intact or remotely even still there. Oddly enough the enemies haven't been as accurate as they normally are though they do a lot of damage. I went for a more engineer and skilled soldier route this time whereas i normally try to get quite a lot of scientists.
Anyway i only lost 3 countries (japan, argentina and brazil) and i managed to keep all the other countries while being in the 4th month and having most of the remaining countries covered by satellites. A good run but i really need to get those interrogations and alien captures going if nothing else but to get equipment (plasma weaponry and such).
Started playing Alan Wake as alternative to Alien: Isolation, gakky combat aside, I'm interested to see where this is going. Plus, using Roy Orbison music is always a good choice.
That new steam Discovery Queue thing is kind of scary. Styx looks kind of neat.
Whats the deal with space engineers? Is it something I could have fun with playing for 15-30 minutes at a time? Maybe 2-3 hours a week max? It looks fun and I'm DLing for the free trial but I just wonder at the build time for making cool stuff in short order.
No, my complaint was mostly on how short life support is compared to how long you have to work to get the resources necessary to expand from the Lone Survivor starting setup. Especially with all the back and forth trips.
Eventually I just gave up with that and instead started a new game withi things sped up and multiplied carry capacity.
Ahh gotcha. Thanks. I'm assuming, like most things, without a significant time investment it's going to be less than amazing. Gotta find something a little actiony but not too deep, don't really wanna fuss around with skill trees but my nostromo is MIA and I don't really want anything as demanding as an FPS or similar.
Magicka would be good but I'm terrible at it with a keyboard.
Yeah, Space Engineers isn't an action game. It's a building game, primarily, unless you find some buds and play downloaded 'maps' designed for multiplayer stuff.
I'd prefer Space Engineers more if there were planets and actual enemies to fight on the ground as opposed to the artificial difficulty of meteor showers. Currently I don't see the point in having wheeled vehicles outside of "this is neat once I've built something I can actually use it on", and unlike Minecraft, it feels mind-numbingly empty in single-player.
Imagine what could be done with planets, though. Huge industrial drills, somewhere you can actually make use of a wheeled vehicle, neutral or enemy bases and settlements you can raid or trade with (imagine landing on a planet and driving a trade buggy into the local town to flog resources you mined and re-supply anything you couldn't otherwise) to eliminate the need to first find, and then catch up to, enter, disable, and fly back the empty ships that occasionally float into your system.
Imagining all the potential, and then trying to play in the emptiness (and quite frankly, utterly repetitiveness) of survival is a hell of a buzzkill. It was fun to try and get started the hard way the first few times, and whilst I enjoy the fact that effort needs to be put in to achieve anything, in my opinion trying to play on base settings requires too much effort. Once I've gathered enough uranium to keep my tiny ship's generator going for lights, gravity, the various other machines, and the med bay, and I'm gathering stuff for my first mining ship to speed up the process, I've already been on it for a good while with little to no physical progress to speak of.

I gathered resources for solar arrays as soon as I could... right now I have fifteen of them, arranged in five rows of three right now.
This setup really only works without meteor showers because they basically are fake difficulty created to penalize players who want to use solar panels.
I hope they add in concrete someday. So I have a use for stone ore and gravel.
Finally beat my I/I Xcom: Within playthrough and, yeah. That last fight was pretty epic, and overall I give the game a 8/10, an argument could be made for 9/10. Great game, I definitely recommend it.
Now, back to Homeworld 2, here's hoping my dumbass capital ship captains stop shooting at the starbase I'm supposed to fething capture.
Also, fired MWO back up on a whim and have been grinding through matches; gotta say, it's a terrible grind. I'd really love to play with people, but I can't be bothered joining a unit and doing all the beginning bs you need to do in order to earn your place in said unit.

It does have a fairly interesting premise. I have to be one of the few people who liked the combat though :/ The dodge mechanic is pretty bad, I have to admit.
As I find myself bored with all the games I own, I turn to Dakka for advice.
Can anyone whom has played the Dawn Of War 2 Elite mod offer some insigth into said mod? any provide a link to a download site?
There's a caster that does a ton of Elite Mod commentaries on YouTube- I don't think it's Indrid, but it might be- you should be able to find them by doing a search for that mod.
ok, fire emblem: awakening is actually better then I thought it would be, altough if i'm honest, I was hoping it would just b shadow dragon with a few extras, new plot nd better graphics.
Got into Dayz again. First 3 spawns got zombied, 4th I got shot with an axe, 5th I ran into a survivor, tried to communicate, he tried to hoe me to death, I shot him.
Now running around with a mosin and feeling less sorry about myself
Neverwinter Nights. I had a copy of Diamond sitting on my shelf since forever, so I decided to dust it off and try it out. I 'm running a necromancer and all I can say is squishy wizard is squishy.
Not a fan of how limited the system is for generating attribute points, though. My wizard has an INT of 16, because I needed 12s in everything else. That sort of thing makes it impossible to play a paladin, when three of your stats need to be 16s (at least).
Doctadeth wrote:So, Finally got fed up with Dayz.

Regarding D&D/computer games, The point-buy you usually get stuck with often does suck for stat-intensive classes. Especially in NWN when you're all by yourself (except for the companion/merc). You can have a squishy or clumsy wizard when you've got 3 party members to back him up.
I had a dwarf monk for my furthest playthrough with that game, he eventually got such good saves and spell resistance and dodge bonuses he could punch ridiculously trapped chests to death and ignore the damage. My wizard didn't make it so far.
BG isn't a huge deal, as long as you manage to run away from wolves and gibberlings till you can get to Khalid and Jahira. NWN1 you're kind of stuck with just one meat shield, liable to get dicey.
Ok that does sound annoying. Did you at least pick a specialization or did you do vanilla and miss out on a spell per level too?
You were just doing a challenge mode, like beating a game without leveling up or only using storebought gear, etc.
I couldn't even finish the first game, the plot was just so... dry. I got to luskan maybe? Or the town outside of it, no I think it was luskan... I forget now, but man I just couldn't do it. I knew Aribeth would make a terrible villain so I just didn't wanna even see it.
Oh neat. I probably own it, may have to play through it again sometime. I remember the traps were kind of fun to dismantle and re-set. Maybe a wizard-rogue this time, fighter rogue was cool though cause he would always disarm and trip people and then stab them for mad crits while they were on their bums.
Been grinding MWO in the hopes that I can get enough money together to try another chassis that isn't the free trial one, but that's slow going. DDC being left behind by my bodguards = frustrating day. Trying to justify spending a few bucks to get some MC and maybe a hero mech and unlock some paints so I don't wander around in matte green forever.
Also, been playing Age of Kings: HD edition too and the updates are pretty awesome, definitely a recommendation from me if anyone liked the game.
Also, finally finished my DA2 playthrough...sigh. The boss from the Hawke background xpac was harder than that lame ass templar at the end of the story.

Yeah, fights get pretty one-sided if the mobs take a disliking to you and ignore your damage sponge. My wizard's familiar pulls double duty as light dps and off-tank, just in case the enemies decide they don't want to mess with my NPC's higher AC and stunning fist (I took the dwarven evil monk dude).
Quick question for those in the know... when running as a fighter (because I'm going to make one eventually), who makes a good sidekick out of the starting batch of available NPCs in NWN1?
The cleric would help you stay alive. Rogue and maybe later on the monk can help with chests and traps (rogue with skills monk with damage resist and spell resist plus brute force). I wanna say my not-exactly-drizzt-wannabe fighter/rogue was solo so I didn't have to keep micromanaging my helper while I was sneaking.
Started playing System Shock 2. It's got just the right amount of horror I hoped for in a horror game. Gives a good scare, but lets me sleep at night.
Also got Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition on a steam sale. Despite the opponent seemingly getting luckier rolls most of the time, I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.
Had a shot at Sunless Sea, I'm not the biggest Steampunk fan but this game is actually really fun. It's a bit like FTL but more focus on exploration rather than combat, each time your ship goes down you get the option to save a skill, a shipmate or the ship's charts, this makes it really replayable as each time you start fresh with extra help letting you do a bit better each time out while extending the storyline, the game itself is still Early Access on Steam although it is described as "late-beta" stage
First time out I ran out of fuel about 100 yards from port and had to watch in despair as my boat was ripped apart by a giant crab
Second ship ran out of supplies with the only ports in range having no food for sale, in the end a cannibal ate half the other crew which reduced me to a skeleton crew which left me unable to outrun or outmanoeuvre a pirate ship which promptly blew us out of the water
Third Ship is still running wild and free with a magician on board

Just stay form ranked games at the start at least, there's so many Dwarf teams I wanted to rip out my eyes
Currently hammering away at Shash 4. How am I liking it? I'm enjoying it immensely. It's a whole new game, and trying to figure out match ups all over again is pretty refreshing, honestly. Everyone in the roster plays damn well, and feel solid. It's nice to see that online, I've been getting huge challenges out of fighting characters I've never really seen anyone play outside of just friendly matches, and doing exceedingly well with them. It's a breath of fresh air not seeing only Marth, Fox, Sheik, Falco every time I play :p (Granted, those guys still show up from time to time)
Ah world events in WoW, the last one I was present for was the opening of Ahn'Qiraj...which was awesome in concept, but executed so badly. Lag out the wazoo.
Apparently the Blood Bowl game has a real-time mode. I heard it was awful, but maybe it could be fun to watch two AI teams duke it out.
As a Dwarf Fortress player, I'm feeling interested to pit Dwarves against Chaos Dwarves.

Yeah the current BB games have "blitz" mode but from what footage of it I've seen it looks like just an uncontrollable mess with all 22 players moving in real time including all their actions, it is not being included in BB2 when it comes out
Got back in to Terraria, just because. Gonna have to look up the various patch notes to see what was added in the past two or three months since I last played....
I'm still waiting for them to bring back the Halloween events in GW2. Yeah, they brought back the Halloween outfits in the gem store, but I'm more interested in the events and stuff.

Played a bit more of xcom: enemy within'. I played the 2nd last exalt mission (narrowed the exalt base down to one location) and then i assaulted the exalt base and destroyed it nearly without taking a wound. I think i only received 5-6 damage on one of my guys. I'm not sure what's with these guys but they're abnormally stupid. They are rather hard if you spot too many patrols at once and pretty much opt out firing for a turn. That said you can just utterly destroy them in many cases.
If anybody wants to play 'xcom: enemy within' or even possibly 'enemy unknown' hit me up on steam.
Good timing, if you don't mind paying for a new expansion soon. I almost consider that from time to time but I know it won't work out for me personally.

damn it, I want more fire emblem! if only i could figure out how the hell the spot pass thing works.
speaking of which, not a video game but I've started doing conscepts for a DaD inspired pen and paper gme I'm going to play with some friends at school. I might post some pics, but it's unlikely.
1) In System Shock 2, even if an enemy is right next to you, it will not know where you are as long as you're standing on a table. I made it through an entire security alert without anyone coming simply because I decided to stand on a table.
2) In Blood Bowl: CPU Team + CPU Team + Real-Time Mode = Hilarity.
Had some cash left in my US PSN account so picked up persona 4 and Suikoden. Started playing persona 4 for the first time and it seems interesting. I finished Suikoden as a kid and want to replay it to get all the characters but never played Suikoden 2. Might have to emulate.

Already bought it when it was first announced and then quit (again) shortly afterwards.

EA Origin.
I don't agree with that. The DA universe is very Warhammer like. The Fade is exactly like the Warp. The demon-fade-Mage connection is exactly like the daemon-warp-psyker connection. The Templars serve the same purpose as the inquisition. The next game is even called inquisition.
Got my main squad killed in xcom: enemy within after facing a d**ned supply barge landing. I had lost my heavy colonel in an earlier mission to crap. For some reason the hit generator is working heavily in the aliens favor when the last few times they seemed rather stupid or possibly it's just EXALT.
I ended up facing down and killing 2 'enemy within' sectopods (much tougher), 2 or 3 mechtoids, various mutons, 2-3 berserkers and at least a sectoid commander. Killed about 17 dudes and then when i have 2 guys left my sniper decides the best and shortest path between an area is running through doors with enemies behind them. Nothing was in the area and she could've gone all the way around to maintain stealth so i'd be ready. Instead she alerts them, i can't shoot and 3 sectoid commanders have their way with my *ss. It was rather un-fun.
-----------
Anyway if anybody on here wants to play some 'xcom: enemy within' with me my steam name is:
FKM
It has a picture of a doom flayer skaven weapons team on my avatar. You might ask why i'd use such a crappy unit not only being a weapons team but being the worst and that reason is i thought it was a cool looking model. 2 clanrats hellbent on destruction. That just sounds like fun to me. I mean just look at the dude on top having the time of his life while the other dude looks like he's ready to stab him in the back. Awesome.
EverQuest, right? I have to say, I'm hopeful looking forward at what Next may bring to the table in terms of player agency to shape the world.
Yessir. The girlfriend's computer was down for a while, and we got it up and running last week. Been playing every night since
I'm also super excited for Next, but kinda bummed that Sarnaks were dropped as a playable race. I love my Sarnak Shadowknight.
If I remember correctly, Next is just starting with the original core areas (though they apparently still have Vah Shir...). I wouldn't be surprised if Sarnaks show up again as soon as the first expansion hits.
GrimDork wrote: How could they drop the lizard dudes? I mean the frogs maybe...
I assume you're thinking of the Iksar, and not the Sarnak?
At this point you shouldn't completely rule out the possibility of Iksar at launch, even if Kunark isn't included. iirc, the Everquest RTS included a group of shipwrecked Iksar. So it's possible that something like that will be used to justify their presence in Antonica.
AFAIK, the list of launch races hasn't been firmed down yet.
Slacked off in the gaming department as of late, the exceptions being MWO and Destiny but even then it's only maybe a couple hours a day I play either (Destiny's multiplayer is some of the most frustrating I've ever played and MWO is...well, MWO.)
Been considering another Mass Effect 1-3 playthrough but I can't get up the energy to start a ME1 Shepard again...the weapon and skill systems in that one sucked.

Until you spend time doing a mission only for one of them to get glitched into a wall and have the mission be unable to be completed without abandoning it... That kinda killed the enthusiasm.
Played a game of xcom enemy within vs cthululsspy and he won. I was basically trouncing him the whole game with my elite EXALT force of 4 dudes and then i made stupid mistakes. It was mostly his shielded mechtoid which i couldn't take down. It was nearly dead but the fact he could just shield it up and keep doing so was a pain. All he had left at for the longest time was one xcom operative with 3 hp and a light plasma rifle, a mechtoid with 3 hp and constant shields and a dinky little sectoid. It was enough to wipe out my guys though. I think that mechtoid did nearly all the damage too. I'm gonna see how much it costs in a second.
Really the sad part is the mechtoid by itself isn't that powerful but when it has constant shielding even from one sectoid in the distance it becomes unstoppable if you can't take it or the sectoid/sectoids down. Very frustrating.
I tried Dwarf Fortress a few times. It seems to me it has great potential, but the author is not letting get to actually be a playable game for reasons that are not clearly stated or make sense.

Hm. I know it's not the most intuitive game, and that's a legitimate criticism, but I would never consider it unplayable.
Unplayable is harsh. I don't mean literally unplayable, I just mean hard to understand. And that doesn't mean gamelay difficult, it's difficulty kind of makes it more fun than it already is.

Speaking as someone who plays DF, I'll just toss up the "losing is fun!" motto again. Part of the fun is the weird/ messed up/ awesome things that could happen to your fort or dwarves.
For instance, some goblins invaded my fort once. I guess my carpenter got caught in the fighting and wound up with a mangled body. Half of the military was dying of thirst due to a lack of buckets. The mangled woodcutter proceeds to move into his Carpenter's Shop and make 3 buckets for the military, more or less saving their lives. At that moment, he gets possessed and winds up working on an artefact, still mangled. I should probably point out his life's dream was to, in fact build an artefact. He managed to finish it, and died a few seconds later. Ironically, I'm not certain, but I think the artefact he made before dying was a bucket.
It can be best summed up with the following two quotes:
"I take a look at the maps, and sure enough, this outpost is stuck out in the middle of nowhere, smack in the Smooth Points of Pride. "Boatmurdered" they call it, a name which doesn't bode well for much of fething anything."
"WELCOME TO F*CKING BOATMURDERED! Hope you like miasma!"
I'm trying to play Dragon Age 2 again. - I've got to admit, it's not so bad. Once I've played through it and being disappointed with it, it's kinda fine to just roll with it.
Although, I keep having this bug where various textures, like peoples arms, or their entire torsos just vanish. It's really annoying. - I think it's something to do with trying High Def textures, or DX11, or something.

Sounds neat. I'll have to take a look at it after I'm finished reading the 4000+ "Dear Urist" posts.
Also thinking of trying to keep a record of forts and incidents.
I'm trying Far Cry 3 again, and I forgot just how much I loath Jason. I got all the towers and cleared all the camps on the first island before continuing with the main storyline after you're allowed to free roam for the first time. Playing the storyline after doing that forces you to remember that you're an entitled bitch with a chic pea for a brain during every scripted event.
For example, entering a cave system to free a friend, and going through it yelling "I'M COMING!" as enemies pour out at you... WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? DON'T TELL THEM YOU'RE fething THERE!
Then for some reason you argue a lot with the people who have guns to your heads and those of your friends and you make errors of judgement that, quite frankly, a toddler would be capable of avoiding... Can you really not just play along with the people who have your friends captive? At least until you're in a position to deal with them?
It's almost painful.
Oh, and the unskippable cutscenes. Not a single cutscene is skippable.
The missions themselves are making me want to cave my own skull in, and that's not even mentioning the ridiculous magical macguffins sewn into the story to explain stuff.
One more thing: QTEs. Utter, utter arse. Immersion-breaking, pace-breaking, pointless arse.
Far Cry 3 had the most unlikeable NPCs I have ever encountered in a game. A bunch of whiny hipster teens might not be the best choice to make someone interested in.
Here's hoping Ajay in the sequel will be better than Jason. Though at least we got a new crazy badguy going for us who's really going down the same road as Vaas.

I know the Iksar are going to be in it, but last I heard, the Sarnak got the boot.
But as long as I get to make a Froglok guardian, I"ll be happy.
Sort burned out actually as far video games are concerned, Destiny was lighting back up and then...the one thing I love doing in that game, the random strikes, come with a caveat: you can only earn 100 Vanguard 'dollars' a week. A fething week. Seriouslly? Everything the Vanguard fething sells is at minimum 65, so that's basically 1 thing every other week and two every other week and that's only until you get the armor done and then you have to fething grind rep to level 3 to unlock the weapons that are AMAZINGLY overpriced. So, to alleviate some frustration with that I decided to give the Crucible another shot, welp, that was a TERRIBLE idea. Camping, invulnerable shotgun users that remain fully charged because of their shenanigans who proceed to annihilate your team.
MWO, pretty much the same. People say it's not pay to win, and I agree to a point, but jesus christ if one more Vulture kills me with 600 LRM's again I'll snap my keyboard.
So, like I said, burned out on gaming really. I'm trying to rekindle the flame with Mass Effect...but god, I really don't think I could sit through the first one again. It's so damn long.
Anyhow, all this to say...I might actually get some painting/modeling done this week, holy gak.
See, thing I found frustrating in Long Live the Queen was the gameplay. The game as an idea is interesting, but in practice it always seems to come down to repetitive skill grinding, just in order to get through some of the deaths.
I played it until I got one of the more victorious endings, and haven't really looked at it since.
Just started playing 'Mafia II'. It's been on my HDD for around 2 years and I've never gotten around to playing it until a few day's ago. It's quite good...

Suck's to because it's a great idea in a great setting. They just kind of screwed the pooch on everything from there on.
I had a real close game with CthululuSpy today in xcom: enemy within and i won but barely. It was 20k points per side and he took a mech and lots of weaker dudes. I had dudes with augmentations and some good armor and plasma weapons. I'm still not sure how i missed not just not killing but not hitting his character with a scatter laser at point blank range and he shot twice. Keep in mind this guy was also built around doing more critical damage so the fact he didn't even hit was rather crappy. I'm reminded just how good specialty plasma weapons are killing most of his dudes in one hit most of the time.
Anyway it was a good game despite some weird luck considering i killed 2 of his guys with one shot each when i first discovered them and the shotgun shots missing at point blank range.
The match ended with our heavies in a stand off against each other and my heavy being the more powerful one managed to kill his. That said i only had 9 hp left and considering it was a captain in titan armor he did quite a bit of damage (about 9 damage to me). Basically if he had done as much damage again my heavy would've died and he would've won the match. Very close and fun game. Thanks to CthululsSpy for the game.

The Developers have added huge challenges, with stuff like weather and body temperature, whilst not fixing zombie AI and glitches. There is no incentive to talk with other people or help them. The idea behind Dayz SA is sound, but the execution of the alpha really really sucks. Basically BI are forcing people into conflict. I don't like developers basically making people do stuff they don't want to, to progress in the game.
Trying to reach Vanguard Tier 3 in Destiny. Kind of hit a brick wall with my gear until I get gain another level or two and head into the Vault of Glass.
Dark Souls 2, getting fairly near the end, I think i only have four or five bosses left to do iirc correctly.
The game has almost lived up to the Souls reputation of being very difficult but what Dark Souls fans fail to confess is if you're having difficulty with a boss there's a good chance there's a summon nearby to help you. If you're a real coward you can go into a boss with 2 players helping you, it might even be 3 i don't know. As far as i could tell the bosses do get a slight increase in HP when you bring in another player but nothing that counters the massive advantage.
One issue with the player summoning is that it has led me to not even try bosses myself. Sometimes i would spot a summon sign at the entrance of a boss and not be able to resist. I think i killed the skeleton lords in about 45 seconds and the guy i summoned did practically nothing, however that victory is tarnished as i'll never know if i could take them myself.
I would say that the NPC summons don't really count as they merely distract bosses but they are still a great boon. Lucatiel did a fine job of tanking the Smelter demon but it was still up to me to do the damage and finish the fight when it had half health.
I decided i would never summon someone to help me clear a level though, only for bosses. I have to admit that The second half of Iron Keep and the Shrine of F***ing Amana have had me in paroxysms of controller-crushing Rage.
The Nadir was in the Iron Keep when i couldn't find the last bonfire (the one in the minotaur's head). I had cleared the entire area up to the Iron King's boss fog but i had one more small path to explore. Hoping for a bonfire and a shortcut to the boss i instead found a chest. 'Hey cool!' i thought, up until the moment the mimic revealed itself and ate me.
Leaving a sign to have yourself summoned is a key strategy as it gives you your full max health back if you help defeat a boss but it can be frustrating.
ESPECIALLY idiots who don't burn the earthen peak windmill. 'Oh great, cheers pal, this easy boss fight, which i soloed on my first attempt, is now incredibly difficult, oh look and that's you dead already from poison. Bye, have a beautiful time!
Oh and people who don't roll away from the Smelter Demon's AoE blast. Plus those that wail on him when he's charging up his chest and sword, 'Yeah great job! What's that 30 damage a pop? Oops that's all your stamina gone, you're sure gonna have trouble dodging.....Bye, Have a beautiful time!'

I forget what they call it now, torment or something? Bit different, bit the same. That last time I played for a bit I tended to adjust it on the fly based on whether I had good gear for the level or not. Got kind of weird, I think I was going to hit pre-expansion level cap well before the last act.
I just can't play that class if they won't let me dual-wield throw everything to death!
D3 has certainly gotten better as time has gone on...which is sort of sad considering that Blizzard had a chance at launch to do it right.../shrug
I still go back to it every now and again and farm some Torment stuffs, but after leveling your sixth character...the novelty has long since worn off and it's just a grindfest of a game. Hopefully with the next expansion (like RoS) life will be breathed back into it.
Hlaine Larkin mk2 wrote: Had a shot at Sunless Sea, I'm not the biggest Steampunk fan but this game is actually really fun.
Third Ship is still running wild and free with a magician on board
third ship gotten smashed up and eaten by a giant Shark, not even the magician could save them
the Captain of the fourth ship managed to scrap enough echo together to buy himself a nice house and a will, then he ran into massive financial difficulty and had to hang up his sailing cap
His inheritor is currently facing more financial struggles but she should be able to pull through it although the map has changed due to me not keeping charts hanging around

Barbarian on normal difficulty is easy mode, it seems. Or even easier than easy mode. Does it get harder?
Try barbarian on inferno difficulty at act 2. Enjoy trying to survive the first elite mob ;P.
After about the first few patches i pretty much stopped playing diablo 3. Not sure what changed after.
It's gonna be a while before we get to that. We're both pretty new to the game, and ultra slow gamers. I think I might try making a wizard instead. I'm sure the game will get repetitive after a bit, but right now that's what fits my needs.
Still playing Blood Bowl. I'm thinking of having a campaign with every possible team (About 22. Got Chaos Edition)
So far I have 3:
- My Chaos team, the Warp Wolves, that I seem to play best as so far. Not very good against Undead tams though.
- My Dwarf team, the Carpenter's Saws, which is AWFUL so far (haven't won or even tied a game yet and is already 2 players short.
- My Orc team, which is doing... okay-ish. One draw, but they're good at blocking, so I'm hopeful.
Might try a Wood Elf team in a bit. That or Vampires.
Still playing Mafia II, but my play time is being interrupted by Half-Life 2. My brother had a copy of the Orange Box lying around on 360. And seeing as his 360 bit the dust some time ago, he just gave it to me
I'm loving playing it again, I never finished it first time round. So here's hoping I get the job done this time!
- Diablo 3, Hardcore Mode, playing on Expert / Master. My solo character is a Crusader but I'm playing with Cirno the Wizard when playing with friends. Also on Hardcore, Expert and up.
- Ar Tonelico 3: The combat is God-Emperor awful, I don't remember the last game I hated the combat so damn much I had to grit my teeth to resist turning off my console after each and every fight, BUT, it's the final game of the trilogy and I REALLY loved the other 2, so I REALLY, REALLY want to complete it. After that, Ar no Surge, that looks so much better.
It seems detached from the story arc over the games I feel. Granted that could just be because its still very early in the game. Accessing the Animus as an Abstergo employee to relive the memories is just odd....
So, I tried to install MechCommander Gold this morning and failed miserably...it appears that I'll have to bust out a 32 bit processor based PC in order to play.
I went and bougth myself BlackGuards on Steam last nigth, and good grief the game is insanely hard as you progress trough it, I am currently getting near the end of the second act, but thanks to shenanigans by one of the villians one of my best party members is druged out of her skull.
That and I am enganged in a gladiatorial battle against hordes of evil minions and beasts
Just finished up 'shadowrun returns: dragonfall'. It was a fun run but for some reason i prefer the main game of shadowrun returns. With the exception of BUGGGGGGGGSSSSS!!! i really enjoyed the base game more than the expansion.
My Dragonfall run i used a shaman (some elf that had a somewhat sleazy look and the look of some hot shot) and in the base game i used a decker (that looked like vin diesel in 'chronicles of riddick').
I think i'll do another run of the base game of 'shadowrun returns' and use a spirit based close combat fighter the next time. I am rather curious about using riggers though as i actually didn't really use one much before.
--------
Ok so i started with a spirit based melee dude (dwarf) in the normal game. So far it seems pretty cool. His damage just in melee have seemed fairly potent already just at the start.
X-Wing from 1993. Gawd, I forgot how difficult that is to play without a joystick. Might have to get myself a cheap, 2 button stick tonight and see if I can't improve.
Great game though, can't wait to ghet deeper in as I only had time to play the first level of pilot training and the first couple of missions. Brought back some fond memories of transferring power from lasers to shields to beef up the shields. (Lasers recharge faster so it makes sense to have them recharge at the highest rate and transfer power from them to the other systems manually as required.)
Playing Beyond Earth, having the same problem I always have with Civ games. I love starting new games, and I never finish one. The end game always just feels less fun.

Is it any good? All of the 'most helpful' reviews on steam say it's bad. Funny thing is all the game sites say it's good (though they're all bought and paid to say so). I think one complaint in a customer review i saw was after the first 100 turns it wasn't fun anymore. That seems to be the same case with you.

I'm kind of wanting to play shadowrun online but i'm afraid about it still being in early access. I also have yet to play galactic civilizations after it first went into beta and still felt very alpha build. This early access nonsense just scares me away from games. I'd rather be playing the real deal when it's fully done.

Been playing shadowrun returns with the adept with chi casting and melee combat. It's funny to punch stuff to death but it's a little boring to only use my fists. Had a little trouble against the troll with the cybernetic arm last time. The base game is different that when you die trauma kits don't auto revive you or perhaps it's because i ramped up the difficulty to hardest.
More often i've been playing warhammer fantasy. Still have yet to really get back into my groove with it. Perhaps jezzails would help a ton. I don't really ever have any money to buy stuff though. It sucks to be poor.
Dark Souls 1 after the sequel, i'm really missing all the little conveniences the sequel added/improved on but it's clear fairly early on that this is the superior game, apart from the visuals if not art design.
I bought BF4 for PC yesterday, It looked good, and it was on sale. I don't do many shooters, but this is fun. Apparently I'm the only person that enjoyed the single player campaign .

I'd give it a mixed review right now. The gameplay is relatively solid, but it seems like it's not much different from Civ V. There's not a lot of variety in the game's progression that I've found so far. Yes, you can go for Purity, or Supremacy, or Harmony, but they don't seem to change all that much apart from the appearance of units and which victory to go for. And the factions are flat and dull.
But I'm still enjoying it over all, and I haven't finished a game yet, so it's entirely possible my opinions are off. One of the other people here I'm sure could tell you more.
The most fun I had with it was when I tried to role-play a bit, really. I named my faction "The New Crown Lands" or something, and decided they were a coalition of royalists trying to start a new kingdom on the world based on myths about Charlemagne. Mainly it came down to acting imperious towards the other factions, "taming" the wildlife (Harmony) so that the nobles could hunt it on their private game preserves, and leaving wide swaths of forest untouched (for those game preserves.) I don't know. That's the sort of thing I like to do.
Reinstalled Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance, Black Knight, and Mercenaries recently...man it's dated but still a blast. The live acting intro for Vengeance still get's me pumped up; Sigma Leader is a beast. A suicide fight. But a beast nonetheless.
