Well, I had time. That was unexpected. Got some things done around the house which made me feel better about goofing off. Now that I'm caught up I should be at least able to keep an eye on you guys...

I find it amusing that you and I are 'stepping back to the mat' at about the same time, and had much the same reasons for stepping down for a while.

It seems to be a semi-common malaise with vets tbh.
I'm hoping the Dark Eldar release gets me going again, and if it's good enough I might even buy the Limited Edition codex...
But then I might also just do it for the sake of it and put it on the shelf.
I think part of it is that for the Rulebook, Psychic Power Cards, Objective Cards (and specials for each race), extras, etc, plus new Codex(es)....
The outlay is £150-200 just in books. :/

I have given up entirely worrying about actual gaming, my drive these days is just the modelling, the competitions on Dakka keep me pretty motivated, no way I can keep up with the cost of the books.

I'm like the exact opposite, I've given up almost entirely worrying about actual hobbying :(. I just can't find the drive to paint. I need to get into competitive gaming with painting requirements lol.

I have similar ebbs and flows with the hobby, i am trying very hard at the moment to keep momentum going with the arrival of the little one. You will see something that just grabs your imagination and just makes you want to jump back in with both feet! For me I have really fallen for the new spacewolf flier and the new Knight from Forge World.

I've had off periods that ended that way... with something really inspiring to get me off my butt. That's not it this time... I have some amazing things to work on. It's just a pile of mundane things that have been put off too long and need to be addressed before I can feel good about hobbying again (because it takes up sooo much time).

Perhaps you should go and relax, the hobby will call you back soon enough. Maybe grab your favorite Dakka Fluff to read. That may prove to be inspirational.

Every once in a while... you get lucky.
Started reading/watching bat reps again over in that part of the forum. Interest is slowly returning... wish I could get out and play a game but the only active gaming group holds their events on days/times I just can't get there.

Had a nice long chat with Solar_lion today about 40k... how 7th was going, the games he's played in, different units on the table, his current projects, etc. I think I need to get some games in to help me get reinvigorated. Unfortunately 40k at my local shop has completely disappeared and the large group in Madison (where I have many friends) has a schedule that just happens to be completely incompatible with mine. Thus, I'm SOL for the moment. Solar's going to try and come over for a weekend to push some lead around... well, I guess it isn't lead anymore... showing my age... so I'm hoping that'll happen in the next few weeks.

I've been playing some 7th, amazingly as the next baby Reaper arrived 3 weeks ago but somehow finding time. I am enjoying it but I was a little dissapointed with some of the rules tweaks. Have you seen the new Mechanicum stuff coming out from Forge World? It is all sooo nice, might have to rock some Solar Auxilia soon!

Congrats to you and your mate, and your new screaming overlord, Reaper.
It's been months since I got a game in... need to drive about an hour to the closest game store... blah blah blah... X-Wing... blah blah... kids playhouse needed a new floor... blah... blah... honey-do list a mile long.
Sometimes it is just too easy for me to let the excuses get in the way, but I'm always so much happier when I get a game or three in.
Well, glad that your own summer had been a good one, Gitz. Glad that you are back surfing the interwebs, and hope to see some model progress eventually. I'm really interested in what you'll make of the new Ork kits.
For what it is worth, if you liked the start of 6th edition (before Eldar and Tau came on the scene) then you will like 7th. The commercialized crazy that became 6th edition is smoothed out because everyone can do crazy. Eldar and Tau are still very powerful, but the maelstrom missions and changes to psychic powers have largely toned down those armies.

Hey, Git Van Winkle, hope you figure something out as far as playing goes. Ice and I's game went well. We probably screwed the rules up, but what else is new?
Just as a preview of the new edition, there is no longer a Squat list, for some reason Powerfists go last(ditto w/ poweraxes..don't ask me I just work here), and there are no more sustained fire dice. Oh, and the Emperor is apparently a god now. Who knew?
Oh yeah, and there are new fashions as far as helmets go. Beaks are so retro.

Thanks guys. I think the "spark" is slowly coming back. Still have a lot to take care of (not the least of which is gutting and re-doing to studio), but regular interest & participation on dakka and a desire to play again are positive developments.

Never Forget Isstvan!

Good talk. What keeps me going is the group I play with are very social. We rarely play anything less than 3 person game and always shoot for a 2 vs.2 match. Most of the time we create armies and randomly roll off whom is on who's team. Always a challenge and provides us a person to blame for our demise.
Another thing that make it enjoyable is that we are not WAAC. We play with a good competitive list still but the game is very relaxed. We don't sweat the missed rule and often help our opponents out when they forget something ( like the new Psy.Phase or redoing a rule mistake). When something amazing happens we all think its awesome.
Lastly we all give each other grief about the bad ( or uncanny good ) dice rolls, losing termies to bolt pistol shots and failing to make that 3 in charge roll. Good times.
Looking forward to kicking some Mantis Warrior butts!
oh.. and praise Huron!

Good to hear your all-spark is reviving Gits, but it is a shame there's not many gaming oppotunities around you at the moment.
Look forward to whatever you throw our way when the modelling bug gets back in you....there's no cure for it you know, just relapses
