yep, to a company that has basically hooked all their modern players it is silly to make a STARTER set to try and draw in new customers that will join the flock.

This is a game of good vs evil basically, and there is no finer way to do that then good super human vs bad super humans

I dunno, I haven't gotten a starter kit since waaaay back when battle for macragge was released. Sadly, that's about when I found out that I really just didn't care about Tyranids, so I sold off most of the set (I have some terrain pieces and a single painted model) so I could get some more Orks.

This set doesn't look like it'll be any different. I regret not getting Black Reach though... but sadly, finances got in the way of that :/

edit: huh, it's still for sale. But still out of my reach in terms of price :/

By that logic the starter set should really only contain IG and cultists.

Also when was the next WD slated for release? Depending on that, it might lend credence to that "25th of August" note someone just posted.

Mine will hit Ebay the day I get the box. Same with the DA tac squad and bikers. All I want is the CSM (chosen), Hellbrute, DA termies and SCs. Everything else will be sold, and quickly.

Id say Sept 1 will be the actual release date, as its the first Saturday in the month, with preorders likely to open the 25th of Aug, which is the Saturday before the 1st.

That was the first thought I had on day one when the contents were spoiled. Okay, maybe not to add spikes, but to convert the Dark Angels to Chaos.

The new Starter is like a Mega Chaos Battleforce.

Pre-Orders for the new starter set begin on the 25th, for release on the 1st.

Seems that some GW stores invite for the 25th August to celebrate the starter set release (or watch the webstore preorder page together, whatever).

I wonder if GW will be selling the starter set early at gen con, maybe 1 per customer?

GW didn't go exclusive on any of there product for Gen Con, so unless they are expecting to sell a crap ton of forgeworld, I cant imagine how they would expect to sell much stuff in a room full of discounters unless they sell stuff you can't get anywhere else

If they invited people in for the pre-order of the rulebook that rocked the world, then I highly doubt they will change their pattern of the last few months and do the invite for the actual release.

Speaking of these events, I've never been, but I know my local GW store, and they don't do much in the way of cool factor (although this might be due to low budget from upstairs and the lack of space). Is it really just "watching the pre-order screen" in the corner and again re-hashing which inquisitor is the best?

I've never felt as awkward in a room full of 20 and 30 somethings discussing which 40k species' girls they like to date. I really, really wanted to quit the hobby at that point. Yes, I sound judgmental. Maybe I am a bit.

Pfft.... That silly....

Eldar Babes All the way !!!

There are no female space marines
Sisters of Battle would probably kill you
Tryanids would kill you and eat you
Genestealers would impregnate you and kill and eat you later.
Necrons.....they don't have girly parts.
Chaos would kill, rape, and eat you, and your lucky if it's in that order.
Dark Eldar would skin you alive and then kill you.
Imperial females some how only seem to be Catachans, Guant's Ghosts, or Commisars and would make them manlier than you.

At least you guys are making funnies. They were wayyyyyyyy too into it.

But back on topic: concerning the Hellbrute (or whatever). Do you think this unit will suffer from the same problem as the plastic deffcoptas did (namely, being only available from the starter set? I'm not sure I fancy having to scour eBay or bitz stores to find enough to make a decent unit or spam them (if they are that good) And I refuse to believe GW would entertain the idea that someone would buy three complete sets for that mini alone...

... oh wait... plastic cultists too... damn you GW!!!!!!!!!

Hahah when you think about it Mathieu buying two starter sets and buying a bunch of chaos bitz off line would give you a pretty hardcore Chaos army from the get go. Lots of terminators, plenty of CSM, cultists, two hellbeasts. Especially if you convert the DA.

As to 40k girls, I think I'd get along well with a SoB, we share similar interests and hobbies, such as pyromania.

I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn

I feel like GW is pretty happy to make Dreadnought (or equivalent) kits. The number of plastic loyalist Dreadnoughts is astounding, and I can see them making a nice Chaos kit to match.

Apperently the starter is not so much good Space Marines vs. Spikey Space Marines but Marines vs. 20 squishy humans and a bunch of Chosen feeding their Lord, who is carried around by a big ugly guy, popcorn, while they watch the slaughter.

Also I do not mind about how conversion friendly the cultists will be, worst case scenario is a two part mold: Full body, and hands with the gun attached as second bit.

Intersting question is if they will be Catachan body builders or flimsy like the demonnetts.

I can relate to this. I made the mistake of dragging my wife into the Chicago Battle Bunker. To be fair as with all wargamers, over 50% of the players were "normal", but the kid in a cape and boonie cap (I assume he was a gaunt's ghost...) a few of the more slovenly individuals and some of the more boisterous types really helped solidify her negative opinion of the hobby.

To be fair Historical gamers aren't much better. HMGS conventions are often awash with the elderly, beards and obesity....
