That's unfair! - I meant quote from *my* blog

Changing the rules halfway through now, are we? And they call *me* a grot

It does however mean I have some neat ideas in your blog - where's your update/index page huh? I'd never find them otherwise... hang on, now I don't have to! They are now in my blog! It was my cunning plan all along obviously!

Lol. I'll do an index p.50, I promise

I don't know - did I commit to a Supadeffkopta or just one piloted by two Grotz? I'll let Dakka decide

From what I can tell, a dual-rotor supadeffkopta, piloted by either two grots or two orks - The latter would be a real challenge, you know...

The models are looking great, I love the bandages on the boy (will he be getting blood seeping through?). The meganob is progressing nicely, and that mad dok is absolutely frightening!

That's definitely the sound of multiple rotors I hear in the distance. Bionik ears tell me it sounds like a warkopta being escorted by a supa-deffkopta

@monkeytroll: I wasn't getting too excited about the Desert Yellow, but now that I've started on the 1:1 Desert Yellow/Bleached Bone, things are starting to come together! Apparently this was taking me longer than normal (must be the additional edge highlighting) - so I happened to notice the difference as I progressed and photographed in stages. Below you can see just the left arm done, and can compare to the rest still in the previous stage:

All the Boyz wraps will go up to white I think... (unless it doesn't look right on the first one ) I've completed a first run of 1:1 Calthan Brown/Bleached Bone on the rest of the Boyz - will probably to a second coat before moving on to pure Bleached Bone though this time...

I've got to stop giving you guys ideas

@CommissarKhaine: Not changing, *clarifying* I'll hold you to that index on page 50 Ignoring your baiting would be the real challenge. I have too many other projects to do! And paint! See - here is some more of the Desert Yellow/Bleached Bone on the Meganob:

I wasn't planning on blood seeping through the Boyz bandages - they are more like straps than actual bandages.

@prototype_X, @Matt.Kingsley: See what you two (monkeytroll/CommisarKhaine) have started?

Okay, so here is the complete Desert Yellow/Bleached Bone on the Meganob:

And a rear shot so you can see it against the red and green:

Hmmm... this will look infintiely better once I get to covering that Iyanden Darksun basecoat...

Next - Pure Bleached Bone... (maybe even tonight!)

Catchya!

Arakasi wrote:@ceorron: Yes, I probably would have remembered if they were the older Nobz... Supadeffkopta hey? Maybe I'd be better off making my own Warkopta...

Yeah a warkopta would be good, actually considered making one of those myself more than once and blogging its progress. So would be very interesting to see what you would do with that, Arakasi.

Great look you have on the mega nob, really like the deep greens on the cape, and the REDS on the weapon.

@Cutthroatcure: Ummm... the cape is already highlighted? Maybe you can see it better in this pic with pure Bleached Bone added to the armour (coming together now!)

@ceorron: Now I have Warkopta ideas going through my head... I blame... everyone!

So, current plan was:
1) Finish this batch of painting
2) Finish Trukks for Trukk Rally/GMS
3) Morgrim and his scenic base/Grot Wotchas
4) Meganobz
5) Warbikers
6) Kommandos
7) Lots of painting
8) Lots of other ideas in my catchup post/index

Warkopta is tempting me to put it after 2... Take a Stormraven and/or Valkyrie, a Warkopta and maybe a Battlewagon and make one large Orky mob carrying gunship/kopta using real world Apaches and Hinds for inspiration. I'd probably look to play it as a counts as Battlewagon rather than Warkopta, but in my mind it would be so cool... Stop it people!

With the desert yellow I felt there was easily visible lightening, whereas up to then the blends were very subtle, but you're absolutely right, that desert/bone has made a huge difference

And it looks fantastic against the cape and dakka.

Supa-warkopta? Sounds intense

But yes, trukks should really feature soon Hmm, where's my bits gone?

Actually I was going to comment on how nicely done the cape was... you can see all the hard work that went into it just by looking at it.

I see it now, The settings on my computer was making everything look kinda dull, But now that it's fixed I can def see them now...Awesome Work..

On a side note A super Kopta/Orkepplin would be awesome to see on the field! I also think if you decide to do warbikes that you should put the orks On horse back like the DA were privy to on Caliban.

Bleached bone is a huge step forward, it's looking great! As for baiting you, a dilema is forming: I'd love your take on the supadeffkopta, but I'd really like to see more paint as well...

@SelvaggioSaky: Thanks, and yeah yeah I get it everyone wants a Warkopta...

@monkeytroll: Back to subtle - 1:1 Bleached Bone/Skull White small edge highlights:

Yes, the Trukks really should feature before a Warkopta

@Gitsplitta: Thanks! I thought it might just be the pic, but apparently not. Here we can see the cape again, this time with the final Skull White pin point highlights:

@Cutthroatcure: No problem, and thanks - here have a Shoota boy with Bleached Bone

Everyone is up to this stage now

Never considered Orks on horse back. You don't see DA on horse back do you? I'll have to re-read my DA Codex...

@Matt.Kingsley: Apologies, I was trying *not* to get sidetracked by a Warkopta project. Your ideas were good and appreciated though (apart from furthering the distraction )

@LostSoulCasey'sLaw: But I already have lots of conversions! And more conversions = less paint

@CommissarKhaine: Yup - choices! Here, have a Bleached Bone Painboy to help you decide

@Imperial Monkey: Did you ever doubt me?

Final shot, because it made me happy - three together:

I'd say, almost there now, except I think I've said that at least 5 times before...

When you read the Horus Heresy Book "Decent of Angels" It talks about their Life on Caliban and how they were a knightly race that rode this awesome steeds and their fastest were part of the Ravenwing. Hence the names of the sections of DA.

I think Orks on horseback would show that they were trying to copy the DA and IMO would look pretty sweet.

I have had a plan to do a Pre-Heresy DA army where they would be riding Horses and shooting bolter crossbows. (But we all have big plans and no money )

@Cutthroatcure: Sadly, I haven't read any of the books - I should fix that - starting with Ork and Dark Angels ones... Apart from that, I guess the other reason I haven't considered it is because they don't feature as a unit in Codex: Dark Angels. Still - I think Boarboyz would make a better representation - off the top of my head

@monkeytroll: Interesting question. Da Dark Angelz gain their "expertise" through genetic memory - I guess if they extracted the geneseed of a Marine who remembers Caliban it would be possible. Given the geneseed is recycled, highly probable. I think the issue is more now that horses don't feature in the current Dark Angels (and can't - Caliban doesn't exist anymore right? Well - at least not with horses ) Still... boarboyz...

Right, on to tonight's action! Lots of 1:1 Bleached Bone/Skull White highlighting. First, the ever popular Painboy:

The more I work on him, the more I think I need more spot colours... I may redo his stitching and/or wraps (above peg leg) in green...

The Meganob gets some transfers/decals - left shoulder:

Right shoulder:

The right shoulder tansfer/decal suffers from two issues. 1 - the red gun had a border of white I didn't completely trim off. 2 - the red is more a candy red than my red. I think I will paint over it. (Keeping the red gun, just making it a bit bigger to cover the white - and suit a Meganob - and the correct, darker shade of red). This whole decal/transfer thing is starting to get me down - either the images I want aren't available, or the colours are wrong, or both. I'm seriously going to look into printing my own in future. Thankfully, this shouldn't be an issue with the other Meganobz and Morgrim when I get back to them, as I think I'll upgrade them to etched brass. (Assuming the images I want are in etched brass, or I'll look into getting my own designs etched as well!)

And I'll leave you with some more of the 1:1 Bleached Bone/Skull White highlighting - Disco Stork:

And a collection of Shootas:

Ooh, they're all looking mighty fine

Agree the painboy needs some colour now - the stitching's a good idea, not so sure the wraps would be green though, maybe a dirtier shade reminiscent of used bandages. Is there a headband keeping the light/scope in place - that should be picked out if so. And the light thingie itself?
And should his boot have been green?

The bloodaxe decal looks good - also not a fan of the white border on the gun. I should look into printing your own - I had some limited success when I tried that many years ago - the quality should be even better now.

I like boarboyz

Love the look

Their all really looking great - my only 2 comments:

I agree with monkeytroll, the painboy needs a bit more colour now (but I was thinking more along the lines of small amounts of blood splatter/flecks on his bandages)

Also - the only thing which doesn't quite do it for me with the mega nob is the cape. First of all, don't get me wrong I think it looks great. I just wonder if it would contrast better with the rest of the mini if it was 'blacker' (or a darker green) as their is something about it right now that just doesn't feel 100% right. Again though, this may just be the camera... but it may be worth testing on a future model a darker variant of green.

All the painting is top notch though - can't wait to see it all in person

@monkeytroll: Yeah, wasn't too sure on the wraps - I'll just build it up in pieces - at some point I should know when enough is enough... the light/scope is attached to his... hat? (what would you call that?) - no headband. I'll check some pics, but yes, I may need to change the light/scope thing to metal or something... Not sure why his boot should be green? Will look to start fixing the gun decal tomorrow...

@slice'n'dice: Yes, blood splatter is yet to come - and may or may not be the required "splash" colour I was looking for (A bit like the weathering on the Meganob is still to come...) The Meganob cape is pretty dark already - though the highlights are pretty bright concentrated around the top. I may just need to take a better picture. I quite like it in real life, unlike my white capes which you are about to see...

Right, so did the final white highlights. Everything is looking good except the capes/cloaks/large smooth expanses - I'll have to work on that. Same problem I had/am having with my Big Mek. Obviously needs more layers and patience Haven't decided if I'll rework/touch up these ones yet though... I think I've been painting for 6 weeks now - hang on...

Yeah, I think it's a hat. Oh, wait, a hood, yeah, it's a hood I reckon I wasn't sure if that was a fold in the hood or an actual band behind the light/scope. As it's just a fold probably best not to use a spot colour there

Don't all the other boyz have green boots? I figured the apofakary would have similar armour under his robes?

White looks good - I can see what you mean about the cloaks, but I'm assuming there'll be a bit of dust and weathering added to the cloaks, which will help blend any inconsistencies you see.

By my reckoning that means you're allowed at least 12 weeks of pure modelling without anyone calling for colour

Boarboys would be a accurate idea, but everyone has done them..it would be your own spin and show the orks attempting to be more Dark Angel like...Or that was the idea lolz...i just thought it would be nifty!

@Gitsplitta: Thanks.

@monkeytroll: Ah. I was working on the idea that an Apothecary is in white armour with only a shoulder pad tying him back to his chapter - hence the white everything with the Dark Green shoulder pad. Da Inna Circul/Nobz are similarly armoured under their robes/cloaks. (Of course, it is also acceptable, I believe, for an Apothecary to wear its Chapter's colours and have an Apothecary shoulder pad - so that is always an option for a second Painboy...)

Yes, dust and weathering is a solution to many ailments (like accidentally getting paint somewhere that is already painted...) - I'll have to see if that solves things for me when I get to it

Oooh! 12 weeks of pure modelling! I can hardly wait!

I did get the Meganob shoulder pad fixed though:

@Cutthroatcure: Well, I will add it to the idea pool for later - you never know!

Right, so, as well as the shoulder pad fix above, I went through and dotted the eyes in across the boyz (I had the Mechrite Red out...) Probably will need a dark wash to finalise that - not much room for error! Probably should do the eyes first in future (given they are the lowest point...)

Also, went through and did the teeth and horns. From left to right - Scorched Brown, Bestial Brown, Bubonic Brown, Bleached Bone, Skull White:

(You may want to click through to zoom in on that one if you have any interest at all)

And some group shots because I can - left:
