Hi, just wondering how people like Dakka and whether they think it could be improved.

Sorry if I'm just an irritation to the MOD's doing this but they may like to take note!!

Personally I think it is great the way it is but could do with a message or e-mail whatever to tell me if anyone has quoted my post.

I think this would greatly improve the discussions; especially large ones where you have to trawl through to find if anyone replied to your post.

I dont find any problem with knowing whether or not someone has answered a post.
Also, if you go under info and your settings, you can set it so you get emailed when your post is answered which could help.

Otherwise however, I love Dakka. I think it's a great place with great blokes. Some not so great blokes in here too, but you have to cut through the chaff, like many things.
Mods do a great job and it runs incredibly smoothly. Nothing to complain about here personally, some of the posting quality seems to have gone down of late, but that's largely due to increasing numbers of users and there's nothing that can be done about it.

For me, Dakka is one of my few and favourite remaining connections to the hobby.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

I like it with a bit of relish and a side of chips. And a cool refreshing Dr Pepper.

The Dr Pepper makes it easier to swallow some of the things I read here sometimes.

Nah seriously though, Dakka's an awesome little corner of the internet and I wouldn't take my wargaming nerdery anywhere else.

That's already done. There's also a box I can untick here below where I'm now typing.

But what if you are in a large discussion and are looking to see if someone has carried on your part. It's hard to explain.

I signed up on a bunch of forums when I got into the hobby…. Granted it’s not even been a year but I have found Dakka to be “well rounded” sometimes a little opinionated but a ton of good people and just as much if not more great information….
I have learned more and gotten more idea’s from the Dakka people then all the other forums combined.

Technically, I've never found a better forum. It's top notch. I know that Lego is aware and working on all the stuff I'd like to see improved, but that's just the icing on some deliciously satisfying forum cake.
As a community, it's pretty damn good. I see a lot of nice stuff on here, even between "mortal foes" like Kan and H.B.M.C. . It has the problem of being so big and international of course, so it's not like some of the smaller, more personal communities I've been part of. But at times it's richer for that, too.
Hell, I even like OT quite a lot.

I have found a lot of the articles on here rather useful.
The forum has a nice community and a lot of interesting and talented members. I have been on other forums and find them a little off.

I love dakka. It helps me by giving inspiration of new army lists, pictures, and advice from other gamers.

I love it here, though I my natural inclination towards stron opinon means I sometimeshave to avoide parts of the place, just for my own sanity.

Ive' not found anywhere better for painting tips and inspiration though, and the people here are nicer than most other forums I have been from.

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

Love Dakka Hate GW

Ah life is so simple when you know what's what.

Note that Dakka has a double 'k'

Actually was it KillKrazy or Kyoto Kid that put the double k into Dakka?
or is that why it is called Dakka Dakka so they can have one each!

see that is how nice and fair a place dakka can be!

I like mine with a dash of pepper and a sprig of parsley. To make it fancy.

Dakka's great. It is incredibly diverse, with a whole range of opinions/nationalities/abilities/interests/fetishes. No sub-forum is left stagnant and forgotton (even Inquisitor has occasional threads) and there are very few flame wars. A testimony to skill of the Modquisition team.

Finally, there is a high level of literacy in posts. Teh lolspeak is practically non-existant, which makes it an infinitely more comfortable site to surf.

You will find that in just about any indi site that has not been seduced by the corporation.

What I like about Dakka are the Mods. They do such a good job in being balanced in their moderating.

Next is the wonderful way people can learn on how to create in their hobby. Be it scratch building or painting or how to teach others to play, with showing useful tips and tactics.

Information is the key to learning. This site has it all for learning what you need to grow in this hobby.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-

"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

You must recite every rule of Dakka Dakka. BACKWARDS.

Great site overall but all things in moderation, I've found the odd break from it does wonders for your perspective and sometimes your blood pressure levels.

Dakka Dakka is a drama-fest. Everyone argues with each other all the time, even the mods, and there is a new flame war or epic debate to read almost every day.

And I freakin' love this place for just that reason. It's why I DCMed and read through the threads for hours. For me Dakka Dakka is my substitute for soaps. Instead of watching EastEnders or Coronation Street related faux drama, I come here for the real thing. Dakka Dakka even beats DeviantArt, as on Deviant Art you are watching preteen girls fighting over Japanese cartoons, but on Dakka Dakka you are watching grown men fighting over little army men, which is far funnier to see.

Oh, and some of the Modelling and Painting blogs are OK, I guess.

I don't even play wargames any more and I rarely get any painting done, and I'm still here. Must be something good about the place.

In general, I like the discussion here better. I tend to like the project logs over at that other major wargaming site with the blue W better. I also go to that Canadian site with the green logo for the painting section only but that is a much lower traffic site.

When I was looking for identification on a really old figure, I posted the exact same thread here and on the blue W site, while I got more responses here, and they got me in the correct direction, it was someone over on the blue W that found the answer.

I don't really have any complaints about Dakka. I am a part of quite a few forums for different games and I like Dakka the best. Every forum I am a part of has some members that make snide remarks, but that is inherent to any forum IMHO.

This pretty much sums it up. There are some quibbles (searches are wonky), but once you learn how to navigate the egos it's a great place to converse.

In all seriousness, aside from a few annoying gits this place is a load of fun.

Dakka's great at keeping me inspired to stay with my illgotten lewts and corperate devil ridden GW stuff.

I was going to get rid of a bunch even the other day, and then after reading through a few threads and seeing some of the stuff I forgot that I had, I'm still hooked.

Seriously, I like that people, and the games, and the new minis and news are almost non-fattening.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Lo-cal Dakka members should only be part of a carefully controlled diet if you wish to lose weight.

personally I would not eat a Dakkanaut as they can be a bit Grizzly (King Cracker), tough (Frazzled) or just plain tasteless (everybody)

Edit: Sorry KC, was confused. I meant "gristly" which you are not afaik.
