Love'in da Grotz! Everytime I look at the Grot sprue it baffles me as to how to make lots of unique grotz without buying the "collectors" metals and FW ones - but you sir are showing that, with some imagination, no such limitation exists! I want to, eventually, add Grotz as wound markers for my Ork characters and Nobz - made out like Watchas (ie wrapped in robes, carry'in stuff). I will definately be revisiting this thread when I get to that...

I'm not entirely up on how grenade launchers work, but rocket launchers, or at least the ones we have here on earth, don't have any recoil. All the force that would normally kick the gun is shot out through the rear.
So basically I like that potentially the only impediment to grots dual wielding grenade launchers is being able to carry them.

Erh... That's pretty good in theory... But IRL, only MOST of the recoil is made up for by the backwards flame... I can only tell by my short experience as a soldier, but I did fire a rocket launcher once a few years ago, and I can tell it DOES have recoil!!!
Maybe in the grim darkness of the 41st millenium, Emperor knows, the AdMech has found a solution to totally offset the recoil??
Still, the model w/ drum shoota looks good to me!!

Commissar Agro: Thanks, the spear gun idea came from the fluff, actually. Just shows the interaction between two creative processes
Dysartes: Thanks, and the grenade launchers are just really big sluggas to the grots . I imagine they found a few without ammo, and made their own ammo for them. And don't forget these are rebel grots, they can do all kinds of cool stuff
Arakasi: Thank you! You can actually make quite a few unique grots just by using the different heads. I did that on a few, but then decided I might as well go all they way. Also, if I'm out of ideas by grot 100 or so, I can still fall back on te basic head swaps . I'll be looking forward to the watchas!
WARBOSS TZOO: just sluggas mate . The day the codex supports it, I'll gladly give them grenade launchers! . Hmm, now I'm stuck with the idea of a dual nade launcher wielding grot in my head...
Yggdrasil: drum shoota = win IMO, the fact that it's a grenade launcher is just gravy!
Anyway, here's something new: a supadeffkopta! I had two koptas still lying around, and figured I might as well go all they way for my second buzzsawkopta. I started by adding the two bodies of the kopta together, making a nice big hull for the grots to mess around on. At first I was going to do a single rotor in the center, but it just didn't look right, so I came up with this:
I didn't attach the rotor blades yet because the gs is still curing, but I felt like I wanted some feedback on this guy; the gs willl need to be tiedied up as well, but it's in easy-to-reach places for a modelling knife, so no worries there. It's just the basic structure, but I've got a few questions for dakka:
1) do you guys like the buzzsaw arm?
2) Do you think the dual rotor design will look OK once proper cabling etc. is attached
3) Wheels or skids for the rear landing gear? I'm inclined to go wheels, but that doens't mean I can't change my opinion if I get good arguments
So, let me know what you think?

I think the Buzzsaw is fine. Unlike most Deffkoptas I see - I like the front profile (which almost looks hornet like), but not the side profile. It does just seem a bit long - reminds me of those two seater bicycles. How are you planning to have it actually balance? If I did a Grot Deffkopta (and it would have two "pilots") - I was planning to put the seats one in front and slightly below the other (then again, I have a fixation with Apaches it seems...) - but I don't think the Buzzsaw would work with that... Or you could double width the Deffkopta perhaps. With what you have, I'd just chop the back one off - but that's me. I wait with anticipation - you've managed to turn my opinion around before

I would drop the back half of the model and have it stop just behind the twin rotors. I TOTALLY love the twin rotor design, and if you don't mind, I'm going to spend some money on eBay and buy up a set of AoBR Kopta's to convert (Do you convert? No No No No!)
The wings you've added look great, but aren't needed as you could use the twin-blade pylons to mount your weapons.
The first picture looks AWESOME!

EagleArk: The frontheaviness come a lot from not having rotors, hence the pics below to give you guys a better idea. Merging the two seats together means no room for attaching the rotors though, but I might add some more gubbinz to the rear to balance things out a bit.
Rose_Mountainz: thank you! Cabling will be added, no need to worry. I'm also looking for a place to add some pistons now that I'm getting the hang of it- maybe the rear landing gear
Arakasi: glad you like the buzzsaw, it definitely adds to that hornet profile you mentioned. As for the side profile: the rotors break that up a lot, as you can see in the pics below. The balance issue was easily remedied by adding a new peg for the flying stand with plastic tubing, then camouflaging it a bit with gs and wiring. it' snicely balanced now, the only problem is that the flying stand isn't high enough, so I'll have to make hima custom base. I feel chopping off the back would unbalance it, but let me know how you like it with rotors! I wanted to do something apache-like, but that idea ha to be discarded as soon as I knew I wanted the rotors in the middle, v22 style. A side by side.. Hmm a new idea...
Heffling: Stopping at the twin rotors would look totally unbalanced. Feel free to nick it btw, it's the way of the greenskin . The pylons will be getting stuff added, and the backwash from the rokkits would kill the rear grot if I added them there. besides, the wings add a (small) feeling of aerodynamics to the model.
Anywayz, here's a pic of the supadeffkopta with rotors and some minor adjustments; I hope this will alleviate some worries about the balance!
And a straight-on view:
So, better? Or worse?

I personally still would prefer to see the kopta stop after the twin rotors, but we'll see what I come up with this weekend when I do my attempt at your awesomeness.
One suggestion would be if you remove the stuff back of the rotors but want to keep the dual model pilot feel, you could always add a sidecar utilizing the bitz you removed.

Arakasi: one large bird for sure! Once finished, I'll add a scale shot to a regular kopta, he's about twice as long and three times as wide with the dual rotors. I figured in a game it's either 1st turn, scout, assault or if you don' t have the first turn it's outflank and assault, so the size doesn't bother me in the least
Vitruvian XVII: glad you like it . I donit have IA8, and have no intention of getting it, but it sounds cool. Is it the orks basing their vehicle of a land speeder storm or something?
Heffling: looking forward to your version! I discarded the sidecar idea when modelling becasue it would look horribly unbalanced. greenskins don't build the most stable vehicles at the best of times, but addign a sidecar to a kopt amight be pushing it .
WARBOSS TZOO: I certainly hope so!
Dysartes: check out the pics! . Hmm, a chinook... Maybe, if I ever need a truck
dregogg: thanks!
Commisssar Agro: Glad you like it! I certainly hope it's tabletop achievements will bas aimpressive as it's looks
So minor update: landing gear. Not sure I like it, I might rip it off and start over. It's not finished either, just the basic structure.
I find the landing gear balances out both halves a bit more, I'm just not sure about the shape or the worky bits. Right now, the rear would be a lot higher then the front when on the ground, but it looked the best this way. I'm assuming the claw folds up between the skids for argument's sake

I've been loving the work. I've actually been lurking sense the first burna, so I felt it was about time for me to say something. I love the duel rotor Idea. I even love the duel seat. I like it. The whole thing looks like it's sagging at the ends, very groty. The buzz saw looks like it could fold up in between the skis and the wheels, in the middle. I think if you could move the point of attachment back just a smidge it would be perfect.
The plasticard landing gear looks spectacular.
Watch those blades though, the left side one looks like it's miss-matched.

Vitruvian XVII: Hmm, a grot valkyrie... Interesting
Commissar Agro: I had the same feeling, like they simply used the back half of a buggy or something!
Sageheart: Glad you like'em . The first deffkoptas were simply ork koptas with booster seats, basically. As I've grown in confidence in skill, I felt I could improve on that. Nothing like a project like this to make you push your limits.
Young_logan: Imagine not having first turn vs that thing . For apocalyspe, I *might* whip up a datasheet; for regular play, he'll be regular deffkopta drawing way too much attention
Meatshield: Good to have you on board! The first burna.. still needs some paint . I agree on what you're saying about moving the engine back, but then you'd have to change the way the rotors are mounted as well, making it a totally different bird. Arakasi might steal your idea though, since it sounds very Apache to me.
The Good Green: Glad you like the dual kopta . Moving the buzzsaw back isn't an option, it's attached very solidly and there's no room further back . The plasticard landing gear must take very well on picture, since I think that especially the rear fork could be better; I might rip it off, not sure yet. And about the blades: not glued yet, so no worries . I really want those detachable so that they're not in the way of modelling or painting, and they're always the last thing to get some attention.
Llamahead: here's some more pics! The warboss' head has quite some detailing on him, it just isn't very visible in the pics (and since he's undercoated right now, I won't be able to take new pics till he's finished). he has a bionic skull and eye, making it possible to use him as Thraka. The paintjob should make it stand out a bit more, but it was hard to photograph due to the PK in the way. The Micro Art heads are reserved for my next bunch of kommissars, I have them in my bitz box and they're lovely if somewhat large - they'll just be big-headed grots - thanks for the suggestion way back in the thread!
Due to a solid lack of time (and modeller's ADD), I didn't get superfar on the kopta, but I did finish about 95% of the gs work, and added rokkits. Due to me having run guitar wire over the original magnets, I had to move the rokkit hard points - good planning 1, CK: 0. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise though, since it adds a lot of character to the silhouette of the kopta IMO.
Judge for yourself:
The gs fingerprints on the front head support have been removed after I noticed them on the pics. Things still to do: add some more detail to the areas where the legs were removed; add instruments (front seat won't be using the bike handles, so I need to improvise a console); make riders; make some kind of canopy.
Hope you guys like him!
