Rose_Mountainz: I'll be magnetizing the weapons to keep my options open. 70 point si a lot for a 2W modle IMO, but the destructive potential is simply huge. Also, the rokkits do seem a lot more effective then the big shoota.
Arakasi: here's a few more pics! I've also started assembling a dual deffkopta, but pics will hav to wait till I have something more advanced to show
Commissar AGro: Thanks. And: figured that much Glad you like'em!
Finch Claw: thank you!
shas'o vera: now I'll have to give him scrawny front legs!
Here's few more progress pics, basic gs work done and the wings added. I've also experimented a bit with a rokkit pack to represent the twin-lonked rokkits, and I feel a set of rokkits on each side should do fine. The gs near the feed will need some tidying up to make a proper foothold, but I need the base layer to dry first. A test fit showed the wing won't be in the way of the foot, so that's all dandy

Are you going to do any more work on the wing? (It looks a little plain... Hmmm, that was an unintentional play on words...)
Do you find the buzzsaw to be a bit overwhelming on the model? I'm trying all of the various Nobz, Kans and Deff Dreads klaws on mine and it is ruining the balance!
Keep up the good work!

I love that you've increased the pitch of the rotor blades.
It's a small detail I know, but I love small details. They really do turn a good model into a great model. Kudos!
Also, the wing mounted rockets are a great touch, gives a very 'Apache' feel. I might have to do a little Deathskull R&D on that idea...

yeah,
Nice copter, it will look awesome in a squadron!
I like the buzz blades. nice use of the kan bits.
70pts will be a bargin once you start boosting around the back of 200pt tanks... plus the disruption threat of a copter attack will mean that the enemy changes his plans and moves tanks instead of firing etc... I've found my buggies divert the enemies attention alot and i think copters will do the same thing.
teek:I always look at the roter blades, and think that because of the 'stabby bits' it looks like its going the wrong way!

First, let me say that I am not usually a fan of Ork conversions. I don’t know what it is, but most people make them look sloppy just for the sake of being sloppy. So when I say that this project is truly amazing, you know what I really mean. The work put in to make these little grotts look like an actual menacing is incredible. I am looking forward to what comes next.

Of course it's sloppy. IT'S ORKS!!!! Sloppy is a way of life for us.
Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe that's why I play Orks. My modeling/painting skills are about the equivalent of a 4 year old. But in an Ork world, it's good 'nuff.
But I must admit, the OP's conversions are far better than anything I could ever hope to do. Good work there!!!!

WARBOSS TZOO: goggles: check; leather cap: check; scarf: no room on the mini. Maybe the next one
Linked: the one with the cigar has a few coats of paint on him, the one with the swagger stick is still plain grey; I'm painting a new Russ for my FLGS, so that's eating up quite some painting time right now.
Anung Un Rama: Hmm good point; maybe I should add rokkit boosters? And the airwolf tune?
Arakasi: the wings had some rivets added and I'll be adding some more detailing, but the battery of my camera died; pics will be up tomorrow! As for the buzzswaw... It definitely changes the visual 'point of gravity' of the model; I find it's OK like this because the focus is supposed to be on the chainsaw 'head' anyway. I agree that it's hard to get it to look good, though I have the advantage that I'm not modifying an existing model though, so I'm less bound by what's been done before.
CrazyThang: Thanks! kopta will be finished within a few days, but it's pretty hectic at work right now.
Teek: That's the advantage of taking your time with models: I was messing around a bit and preferred the blades that way. I'll mess around a bit more for the final pose. For the apache feel, check out Arakasi's deffkopta (link in his sig, a few posts above yours), it was his idea first and I looted it like a proper grot
Panic: Thanks! I agree with you that the kopta will be splendid for hunting tanks, it's just that 70 points seems a lot. Still, I'm sure they'll do their job admirably! My only concern is that they lack the survivability (and firepower) of a buggy squadron. Firepower means less if you have a bunch of S7 attacks on the charge though
jackanory: there's only room for one I'm afraid, I'll be adding a few more on my dual kopta - if I ever get to work some more on it. Post up pics if you can, I'm always interested in other people's take on the little'uns!
SkeTcHy LaRRy: Quite the compliment, thanks a lot! I think people tend to reason from a basic ork's viewpoint, while I feel you should take the mekboy's view, i.e. how can I improve on something good? I have to admit I find the whole concept of grots ad an actual menace highly entertaining, I can't wait to stomp an ork player with my grots
Madmax1: Orks = sloppy; grots= skillz! Thanks btw
No piccies today since the camera's battery is dead, but I've written a bit more fiction to go with the Squeaky Waaagh!!!! Enjoy!
+++++++++++++++
The grot tunnel party crept upward in the newly excavated – or collapsed- tunnel. As they moved up, rough, shouting voices echoed down, their owners clearly oblivious to the approaching gretchin. “M ichaels! What happened?” A second voice answered, nearer to the grots. “T hose bloody servitors! I ordered them to control the rockdrill, and they didn’t register properly! Ogryn servitors are even dumber then regular ones!” “Dumber then regular ogryn or dumber then regular servitors?” The raucous laughter echoed down the tunnel, the grots stealthily approaching. They had been trained quite thoroughly while exploring the cave system, the reckless and the dumb weeded out by accidents, squighounds, or worse. They approached to within 20 feet of the two talking miners, getting a view none of them had experienced firsthand: a human face.
The two miners, having decided that the accident was clearly the servitors failure, were now venting their anger on them. They yelled at them and hit them, but the ogryn servitors barely registered it. Either of the two servitors could have crushed the miners easily, their already formidable ogryn physique boosted by augmetics and mining equipment. One of the ogryn, equipped with a huge drill, simply responded to the punches and insults with a monotonous “ Do not compute. Please formulate your request per regular commands or memory-upload”. The second one, a lobotomised giant with gigantic shears, didn’t even respond at all, seemingly gone dormant, ignoring the abuse and the kicks and the hits with the shovels. This only served to infuriate the miners further, who felt they were being mocked by the lack of response.
It slowly downed on Scrabz and as he looked to the others, he knew they had come to the same conclusion: these were the Enemy! They were clearly kicking their slaves without reason, and they were outside the safe zones the grots had created. They instantly realized that they couldn’t allow them to find out about the grot settlement. Besides, there were only two of the Enemy and ten of them. The Enemy were too busy hurting their slaves and too secure in their feeling of superiority to look around for danger. And, most importantly, they had their backs towards the grots.
Speedily, stealthily, the grots approached. Scrabz divided them up, 5 grots on each Enemy, making sure both had pressure guns at the ready. One of the servitors noticed them, but the data was irrelevant, their programming not advanced enough. Ogryn servitors were used for brute force only, and didn’t get anything but the necessary modifications – and lobotomy.
As one the grots struck. The leftmost miner never saw his killers, dying to a speargun that pierced his miner’s helmet like it was paper; the metal spike continued straight through, coming out the other side of the helmet and embedding itself in the rock. The second minder, reacting on instinct, managed to dodge the first spear, but was then netted and impaled by the grots, who showed no mercy to what was, in their mind, an enemy that had taken so many of them. The two servitors didn’t move a muscle. Servitor BGLG-15-A was splattered with the lifeblood of the first miner, the bloodshed activating long forgotten memories of hunting and fighting, and eating. His mechanical part took over quickly though, suppressing the memory.
“ Now what?” asked one of the hunting party. “ We hide the bodies, and liberate dem slaves! Hurry, before there’s more of’em!” Skrabz immediately made for one of the servitors, urging on the others to pick up the corpses and hide their tracks. “ Oi! Ya big lug! Get movin’ before their buddies get ‘ere!” The servitor looked down “ Do not compute. Please formulate your request per regular commands or memory-upload”. The grot was astonished. Did the big guy really not understand? Maybe he didn’t know the way? “C ome with me!” “ Affirmative” The ogryn took up position behind Skrabz, and followed him around. Scragnutz, a quick learner, did the same with the shears-armed servitor. Excited and awed, the grot party made off into the darkness, only the blood spatters and the metal spike embedded in the rock a proof of the slaughter that had taken place.

Here's a few more pics of my (nearly) finished deffkopta. I need to remove some mould lines and drill out the exhauts, but that's about it. For this pilot, I cut the top off an ork deffkopta pilot's head so I had goggles and the flying cap, then gsed it to a goblin face. I then glued it in place before taking pics (lackofpatience might be a better nickname , so you'll have to do with these:
And a rear view, showing off the improved exhausts and the rokkit engine
So, what do you guys think? Does he need anything else?

On the most recent pics in looks like the leading edge of the rotors (ie. the lifted edge) doesn't face in the same direction for each blade...? I could be wrong though. Similarly with the spikes on the rotor blade, personally I'd have them all face backwards because my instincts on fluid dynamics prefers them there - but that's really, really pernickety on my part.
Also, your work is fething awesome. The first time I saw the bright orange paintwork I thought it would look hideous en-mass but you've proven me completely wrong. First class conversions AND good paintwork.

The blades are indeed the "wrong" (well, for a given definition of "wrong") way - you can tell because all the "teeth" should face the same direction - or alternatively, two smooth edges shouldn't be seen together as in the pic. Still - its Grotz, whose contraptions, like Orks, don't necessarily rely on reality to work. I prefer it the "right" way. Do it whatever way pleases you!
Rivets! They look good, very solid and chunky. I think my Deffkopta is missing rivets...
Given the Buzzsaw on the front further elongates the model, I'm glad you copied my wingz - otherwise it would look even more two dimensional than the original!
Overall - excellent. I look forward to turning it back into the scrap metal it really is at some time in the future

WARBOSS TZOO: It'll be ahrd to do the detailing, but I found with my previous deffkoptas that is was very hard to get the model in a proper position, so I decided to try it like this; painting should be OK, I have quite a few angles still open to me when it comes to painting. And if you can't reach it, you can't see it
The Good Green: they're the ork's ears, and the rest is covered up by the flying bits of leather cap . Glad you like the fluff, and looking forward to the unfurling events in Bigtoof!
Young_Logan: thanks! Mad mek creation will be up shortly (I hope)!
Atre: Thank you! the orange paintjob was a bit of a gamble, bit I like the final result; I think the trick was to make it a dirty, earthy orange.
As for the rotor blades: you're absolutely right. I only glue them on after painting, so I quickly took two rotor bits and tossed them on for the pics, not realizing they were on the wrong way. Nice eye for detail! No need to worry though, they'll be facing in the 'proper' direction once properly attached
Scarper: thank you, glad you like'em!
Arakasi: see the comment above about the rotor blades . The rivets are essential with the way I built the the wings, they'd be a bit plain otherwise. They're easy to make too, just slicing bits off a plastic rod.
I agree about the two-dimensionality of the regular deffkopta - it's fine for bikes, but less so for an attack copter. I think you could make a cool akira-type bike out of'em. I like the elongated look the buzzsaw gives the model, it looks a tad more aerodynamic and sleeker. Adding some more exhausts and the 'afterburna' just adds to that feel.
Glad you like the model - not entirely amazing though since I stole your design . As for the battle: Viva la Revolucion!

Khaine,
A thought for a future Kopta design: Why have the Grot sitting down? You could easily have him standing on the seat, or even on the seat back, while holding onto the handle bars. You'd just have to tilt his head to look "up".
Alternatively, to keep the feet from looking like they are just "hanging in the air" (pun not intended), you could build up some pistons that go down to where you would normally expect to have the pedals. You could even do something like make some bricks to have tied to the gobbo's feet to help him reach the pedals. =-)

vinbreau: one ork player to another? . Glad you like'em, and make sure to put up pics if customize your models!
Heffling: actually, there's not that much room between the rotor engine and the seat, so having a grot stand up is pretty much impossible. The same with having him lie down: I think he'd only see his gas tank then. Nice ideas though! The best alternative I've come up with so far is to 'box' the legs in and just use an upper torso, representing the pilot being strapped in securely - well, securely for greenskins . Building up stuff to the pedals could work, I've considered adding books underneath their feet; main problem is that removing the ork legs is not a pretty sight, so it would imply extensive rebuilding. That's what's held me off so far, but maybe I should give it a go on the next one.
Anyway, minor update: 10 more basic grots, who are now in need of a kommissar, so that's next on the drawing board
I've tried to add some different weapons to change their profiles (hence the sniper rifle and the submachine guns), and I've cut up a few models that come with their gun attached to their chest; it's actually easier then it looks, you just have to be careful and place your cut right.

A Squeaky Waaagh!!
Camkhieri: "And another very cool thing, my phones predictive text actually gave me chicken as an option after typing robot, how cool is that."'
Meercat: "All eyes turned to the horizon and beheld, in lonely and menacing grandeur, the silhouette of a single Grot robot chicken; a portent of evil days to come."

Nice work on the weapon swaps, CK, though I'm a little confused by the Grots wielding grenade launchers in one hand.....
