But I was just getting good at using the current range

If they're doubling the range...does that mean that the new mega paint set will be in a large case now or in a case specific to the new range?

Well not too fussed about the name changes, it's not like they publish any good paint guides in the WDs anymore.

Anyway isn't Ceramite supposed to be grey? Hence Grey Knights due to them not having coloured their aegis armour?

Dont do any good paint guides anymore? Not sure what White Dwarf youve been reading but nearly everyone has something in it. I just bought my TW cav Saturday and used the guide in the freakin magazine to paint and they look awesome! GW haters. I would love to rant on you guys but Im sure I would get banned, censored etc. If there are new paints on the way, fine, we adjust how we do things like we did years ago when they changed the pots or years before that. Ive been in the hobby since '89 and the paints keep getting better. Sure Im not happy about price increases but no one is forcing me to buy, cant help with the economy and such.

Ceramite = grey, thats what I thought. I hope though that Magic Mud stays the same

I'm sure we'll get a Citadel Colour Master Set eventually - whenever they can source a manufacturer of dropper bottles for as cheaply as possible. It'll have 6 colours and cost twice the price of 6 Foundation paints.

The new paints release seem to consist in more than 120 new paint pots, divided in several lines, like basic, drybrush, metallics, washes, glazers and textured paints. Many current colours seem to be still there, but with new names and the new formula, with probably subtle changes. There would be 12 washes instead of 8, and more surprises.

Just a rumour.

I've just got good at mixing my own paints and using the current GW stuff...NOW they decide to do this??

I mean I still have paints from 2000 odd, so I'm REALLY gonna struggle to find the equivalent. And Vallejo aren't an option as nowhere nearby that I know of sells them...

Been thinking about that. I don't like that a couple of months into learning to paint everything, I then have to then start creating alternative combinations and stuff.

I guess the question now should be... Are alternative paint ranges truly worth switching to? Could acrylic paints designed for canvasses be watered down and used like model paints? I also assume that the likes of Humbrol paint is completely out of the equation...

That would be an ecumenical matter...

Other companies such as Reaper, P3, Coat D'arms, etc. invaribly cost slightly less or around the same, but generally have around 50% more paint in a pot.

I'm personally slowly switching to P3 and Coat D'arms because of the general cost of GW stuff, and I prefer flip-top bottles to dropper.

Alternative paint ranges are generally so similar you could barely tell the difference if every company didn't try to brand everything with giant logos and specialty ranges. There are subtle differences but all the big brands are very useable. It may be worth trying out a few colors from several ranges and deciding for yourself. Personally I love p3 and reaper master series, but I use some vallejo game color and gw too.
I'm sure artists' acrylics could be used but those big tubes they come in are a little cumbersome for how little we use at once.

Well, this all sounds pretty good. As long as the prices stay the same I will probably pick some up when they come out. Looking forward most to the thicker white and a better set of yellows, the current ones are a real pain to use!

12 washes? Hoping for a yellow wash! I'd imagine they'd do a couple odd ball ones though. Maybe like a hawk turquoise wash for rust effects, orange wash, light green wash for lighting plasma.... Yellow wash is all I ask though

Gak is what used to come in a star shaped clear container. I think it was a Nickolodeon product or something they endorced. It was very thick and green like substance that made fart noises and kinda smelled like soap a little bit.

You could roll it into a ball and it would ooze out but it was not super sticky or thin like some of the others.

What I am hoping for is a bright orange ink!

"Gak" is how Dakka censors the expletive that also means "feces". You could still roll it into balls and stuff but it wouldn't smell like soap.

OH...well there WAS a product called gak too!

Was really fun to play with! I used to throw it on my ceiling and watch it slowly fall of and catch it. Roll it into a ball, Squish it to make fart noises. Pull it a part was kinda fun too. It felt different than anything else because while it was sorta like semi liquid. It was clay at the same time so while it could stretch out really far. It could break and it felt like kinda a rubbery snapping break when it did.

Was a great product!

If only I had room in my Sig for that!

I think as long as Graveyard earth doesn't change at all formula wise I'll be fine. That's the only non wash/metallic/foundation from GW that I use anymore and it's just for bases.

I used the re enact the Blob movies using my Gak. It was a great product, slimy without being sticky. Impossible to remove from carpet once it dried though.

It's interesting that so many people are worried about losing current colors that Vallejo will continue to make for the foreseeable future. Tentacle Pink is very much alive and well in the Game Colour range. If it isn't carried locally, order it online.

I'm mostly looking forward to new supplement colors like washes and foundations. Perhaps even some new metals(can never have too many shades of dark gold). Foundation White is the biggest thing for me, and I can see it selling well.

1)I like buying my paints from my LGS and support them. They don't carry Vallejo, so I don't use them.
2)I hate waiting 2 weeks for my paint to come in the mail before I can paint something.
3)It's nice being able to see a colour in person before I buy it, to make sure I'm buying what I need for what I'm painting.

These are just some reasons off the top of my head I don't use them personally.

Their are alot of people that don't want to resort to "Order it online" if they can help it.

I have to say, I would second the idea for a rust or verdigris type wash though.

2 weeks? Is shipping that slow in the North?

While I'm not saying that Vallejo needs to be the ONLY paint you use, if a color by GW is discontinued like Pink, but Vallejo still makes it, then you can just order the one color you no longer have and be done with it.

Is your LGS a GW store? If not then I'm quite sure that they can special order Vallejo paints through their wholesaler.

I personally drive 60 miles to get Vallejo Paints(buying at least $40 worth at a time to justify the trip), but have access to Reaper, P3 and GW paints locally. Then there are specialty items like Polyurethane Primers and certain Liquitex products that I have no option but to order online. While it isn't ideal, I need those products and get them where I can.

This is understandable, but we're talking about a fairly specific order. I mean, GW isn't going to overhaul their line completly so that nothing matches, it's just going to be secondary colors (shades without iconic heraldry, natch) that get altered.

So, how many paints is the average hobbyist really going to lose? A small handful, right? Between stocking up now, grabbing the vallejo when you can, or ordering through your FLGS, the colors aren't gone. It's not as convenient to be sure, but I'm sure if you give your FLGS a specific SKU than can get you the paints you need.
