A few friends and i are collecting armies. I'm currently making a Tau army and my friend is making a DE army. I need to know what a good build for battlesuits might be against DE so i can have upperhand on him and not make waste of battlesuits I also know that there are a LOT of SM armies out there so I would like to know what would work against SM as well. I'm thinking fusion blasters and plasma rifles is what's going to get through all that armour, but I just don't know if it'll work.

Go with the Firestorm.

Its the best All Rounder for DE and SM.

Its a Missle Pod, Burst Cannon and Multitracker.

The MP and even the Burst cannon can score hits on almost all DE Vehicles.... Once you blow the Transport up the contents take a good chunk of deaths due to explosions.

The Burst Cannon and Missle Pods shoot 5 rounds between them with 3 suits thats 15 shots..... Wyches and Kabalites will crumble.

SM are easier to kill with the Fireknife config which is MP and PR.... Cost is increased asn amount of fire is decreased but AP of the PR is a big plus....

The bonus of running a Knife over a Storm is up for debate. They are close to each other even against marines.....

I run both =]

Are you allow to tailor your list against your friend's DE, and then against your friend's SM?

I would go with BC MT and MP I pla against dark eldar prettymuch every week and have tried every combo and that one wrks the best. Equip your commander with MPMT and PR, this is a nice weapon for BS5 units, also works well agaist marines. As for SM, i would take the same, you just have to pump out as many shots and force them to fail lots of saves imo, always wrked well for me.

Hope this helps.

Eh, the default is the fire knife; best versatility. Missile pod + plasma rifle; cuts through power armor and transports, puts wounds on terminators, covers you at long and close range, and you don't have to tailor. It's just a good all purpose setup.

Other than the two configs already given (Fireknife, Firestorm) the third-most used on is the Deathrain. Double Missile Pods and, well, whatever on the third slot. Most go either with a flamer just in case, or something cheap like a Black Sun Filter. Gives you a good, mobile equivalent to a TL-AC that will rip through most light armor and infantry. Equip the Team Leader with a... crap, forget what it's called, the bit that lets you target something other than the rest of the squad and you'll rip apart most 'mech armies.

Target Locks. You're thinking of Target Locks.

I don't like target locks in today's game, and here's why: Between flickerfields, Kustom force fields, smoke launchers with or without shrouding, turbo-boosting, and 9 billion other ways for vehicles to get a cover save or invulnerable I want whatever I shoot at to die. Sometimes one shot just has to do it, aka Railguns. With the Missile Pod approach, I want as much fire downrange as possible at one single target. That way, if i score 6 or 7 hits, i might get 2 or 3 pens and a glance. Of those damage results 1/3 to 1/2 usually get blocked somehow, leaving me one or two damage rolls on the tank.

So for me, no target locks unless I have a spare 5 points.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

I'm gonna have to say its the Fireknife Combo, its like the best all arounder (not a word...I know...) The Missile pod can take out light vehicles (armor 10 and 11). Plasma rifle to take out anything heavier. Like Termie heavier. And Deathrains. I usually run 2 Fireknives and 2 Deathrains along with 2 sunforges for suicide duty. I've had pretty good success with it.

Fireknife combo is very nice, just depends how many points you have to spare as they are one of the most expensive loadouts and thats why sometimes i go for th BC instead of the PR.

Fireknife, missiles and plasma, all the way.

You don't need any more str 5 in the army, don't take burst cannons.

Go for this build (list #A). It's solid. The only question is...do you have the models for it?

Avoding broadsides as well?

If that's the case, you are presenting everyone with an impossible task

Just take a whole bunch of Markerlights and you'll be fine. Skyrays are a good source of Markers, just don't forsake your Railguns.

FK also has the added advantage of giving instakill for T3 models, great for negating FNP on Wyches and other units.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Not another crisis avoider hahah contrey to the "dont field BC advice" against armies with 5+ saves they are a very nice cheap option that gives no saves plus a bc wil save you 12pts a model which doesn't sound a lot but every little helps "slaps his ass"

I'm not avoiding crisis suits i just don't want to rely on them completley. and thanks i didn't think of that! but a want to be able to take on SM armies really well because a lot of people play them.

Aw I was only messing about the avoiding crisis comment lol. You would be surprised how competitiveBC can be. Granted PR will grant SM no saves but at the full distance thats only one shot and still gotta hit on a 4+. I still favour BC and MP purely because of the number of shots they can bust out. My adivce to you aswell is field two hammerheads against most armies and i like to field atleas 1 ionhead. 3 ap 3 shots aka no SM saves hitting on a 3+ and killing on a 2+. Most SM squads wont number much more than 10. If you field broadsides aswell they will take care of the bigger armour units whilst your ionheads can whittle down the SM's. But i am not gonna lie DE are my absolute nightmare the guy i play is so clever and the best result i get is a draw. If you want any more advice just shout, armies i play against most are DE, SM and Nids.

I've always had three favourites:

Deathrain (flamer type)

Fireknife

Blinding Spear/ Bladestorm. (probably best for this situation)
